Evan Boudreaux Commits!

Should it be a given Haarms starts at the 5 just because he is tall? I feel like he needs to improve to where he is either a really good rebounder or he can consistently knock down a 15 footer before people just pencil him in at the 5.

Nova's tallest guy is 6-9.
Michigan's plays with Wagner at 6'10 and then there next tallest guy is usually either 6'6 or Duncan Robinson at 6'7.
Wheeler is 6'9 now and a capable 3 point shooter and a far better athlete than Vince ever was...Boudreaux is 6'8 and rebounds much better than Haarms according to his stats and video.

Nova, Michigan, Kansas and Loyola all put teams in binds by being able to spread you out.
Purdue fans are so used to having massive centers....but that's not what wins you tournament games these days. It's being able to spread you out and shoot from the perimeter...as well as being able to defend a lot of ball screens well from your 1-5.

So if it were me...I'd be opening up driving lanes for Carsen, Nojel, Wheeler, Hunter by having Boudreaux be our Mo Wagner...even though he's a few inches shorter. There is a reason why Michigan keeps having tournament success.

Bring Haarms off the bench until he can consistently develop a pick and pop game.

...and the talk was Gilmore and others believed his fro making him so tall was imposing. I sent an email talking about horse money in Florida for Norm Sloan to make Florida a winner...before their 1987 team.
That Jacksonville team started 3 seven footers.

Always enjoyed Vince and thought he was a good/sometimes great player, but Evan might be an upgrade at the 4 tbh.

How? I only see a tad bit of physical difference. My son played against him in sectionals Championship game so we no who he is.

From the videos I have seen, Evan seems a TAD mentally and physically tougher but at this point Vince has an edge in the 3 ball I would say but who knows.

So with EB coming aboard could we see JT leave and it Emmanuel Dowuona redshirt

It seems like someone might leave with Williams, Dowuona, Haarms, Eifert, Taylor, and Boudreaux all in the frontcourt.

Yikes! With that lineup we would never grab a rebound. Not sure in what circumstances we would have to get so creative as to have Wheeler, Boudreaux, Taylor, and Eifert on the bench at the same time. I think for Hunter it’s going to come down to either he is so good he’s going to take a starter’s minutes or he’s going to be looking at a similar dilemma at his position that Wheeler and Sasha had this year.

Yikes! yourself. It's silly to waste any more time on this because all I suggested was that this was a viable, albeit infrequent, lineup. From that it would be easy to deduce that we'd likely not see it for more than a few minutes in a game, and probably not even every game. But since you're so aghast at it, let's compare, shall we?

2017-2018's most FREQUENT lineup:

1 PJ
2 Carsen
3 Dakota
4 Vince
5 Haas

Rare 2018-2019 lineup:

1 Hunter
2 Carsen
3 Sasha
4 Eastern
5 Haarms

Position by position:

1 Hunter out-rebounds PJ (advantage 2018/19)
2 Carsen rebounds the same as Carsen (even)
3 Dakota likely out rebounds Sasha (advantage 2017-2018)
4 Vince and Eastern, IMO, have similar rebounding skills (even)
5 Haarms is likely going to grab more boards than IH did (advantage 18/19)

Even if you make the assumption that Vince is better on the glass than Nojel, the two groups are equally adept at rebounding (which, admittedly, wasn't our strong suit this year). But it's certainly not a Yikes! lineup.

So it seems clear that my hypothesis was perfectly reasonable. And anyway, I'd say this lineup is about the thirteenth or fifteenth likeliest, ranking well behind numerous other iterations.

Yep. Just because he's tall. There's absolutely no other reason to start Haarms. Other than his height, I mean.

Now that we've gotten THAT ridiculousness out of the way, here are just a few reasons why he should start:

1. He was 15th in the nation in blocked shots despite only averaging 17 minutes. This will only improve next year. Rim protectors are invaluable. He is one.

2. He will be one of our best rebounders next year. As he builds muscle and gets more opportunity, he will easily average 7 or 8 boards next year.

3. He is our second-leading returning scorer, and although that was only 5 PPG last year, it's not a bit unreasonable to think he can crack double-digits this year. We need scoring, particularly interior scoring. He won't be Isaac, but he won't have to be. He can score in other ways.

4. He plays with fire, passion, and toughness, and as his body develops, he's going to be an absolute terror for our opponents.

5. Oh yeah. And he's tall.

We need Nojel to grow a huge fro so he looks like he is a 6'10 Guard...grow that hair and be imposing like Artis Gilmore

If you're going to have someone grow a fro....it better be like Darnell Hillman.

I can't see Hunter not getting minutes. That said, I think Purdue is a tough out in the conference...IF they are mature in away games. If Tre comes in with less body fat and really works out this year...Purdue will be fun to watch and so many "different" pieces...and interesting pieces outside the lines. Hunter is serious about academics...Evan 3 year grad at eastern Ivy (Purdue is the western Ivy ;), Tre wanting to model his game and weight after Biggie adn Dow previously going two weeks wuith little to eat. I see some bright, motivated guys that are more athletic and should grasp teh mental aspect easier than some
Agree that Hunter doesn’t RS next year...other than Carsen, Hunter may end up being the one player who has all the big time shots right now and ready to go...and CMP and others have said as much already. If Hunter can add about being 15 pounds, there’s a real good chance he gets around 15 minutes a game as a scoring punch off the bench who can guard the quicker and shiftier guards like Rutgers had this season Purdue struggled with. Hunter is the total package...that package just happens to be a medium right now instead of a large, lol.

Michigan starts a 6'11 guy and a 6'8 and brings a 7 footer off the bench

Kansas starts a 7 footer and has svi who is 68

Pascall chukwu is hyper athletic and has a good wingspan

Boudeaux cant compare He is closer to the 4s on michigan and Kansas than 5

Was that an FYI or FBI?

I stand by what I said. Cline is going to start no matter what in my opinion because he’s a senior and shoots 40% from 3 and Painter rewards seniors. So if you start Haarms and Bourdaeux next to Cline...that becomes a very unathletic lineup very quickly.

By the numbers, Haarms was our 5th best rebounder behind Nojel, Eifert, Vince and Haas. Boudaeux’s numbers show he’s a better rebounder than all of them. So all you give up when starting him over Haarms is shot blocking...but you gain a lot offensively and on the boards. Plus his offensive tools open things up for the 4 other guys and get them all better shots. With him on the court, you can post Nojel or Wheeler because his shooting abilities pull the opposing teams bigs out.

I know that nobody agrees, but Id rather Haarms play hard for 15-20 minutes off the bench like he did this year and be an energy guy. And I’d rather Wheeler and Nojel benefit from playing more of a spread offense alongside Bourdaeux with less lane clogging.

Why? I see 2 centers and 3 forwards, one of whom is a walk on. Just right since Matt tends to play his bench significant minutes. Seems like there are 3 front court positions. Maybe you should add Wheeler to your list. He is a front court player too.

Competition is good. If you aren’t playing and you’re upset about it, work harder. Or leave.

So I think at this point I guess the line up would be

Eastern
C Edwards
Cline
Boudeaux
Haarms

Boudeaux ads shooting and rebounding which the team needs. Only thing that wories me is I don't know how good of a defender he is

What makes you think Cline will start besides being a senior? He can’t get open to get a shot off and I don’t see much changing over the off season to change that. I hope I’m wrong, of course, but I see him coming off the bench with Eastern, CE in the back court and the 3 being wide open.

Boudreaux is more of a wing type player from all that I have read. Eifert is a red shirt player, although if he is offered a full ride somewhere, it is possible that he leaves. I mentioned earlier that it is possible Dowuana uses a red shirt. There isn't anything guaranteed at any of the positions expect Carsen and Eastern. Cline will likely start, but it wouldn't shock me if he is the sixth man by Mid-February.

I think the lineup will be in flux for the majority of the regular season and Painter mix and matches all his new pieces. I can't wait to see what next year's team looks like!

As the father of a 12 day old little girl, I can't like this post enough.

OhMyGoodness... our first was a gurrrrrl. Awesome. they melt your heart and turn you into the kind of man you need to be.

Mine's a FR at Purdue, and Poppa couldn't be prouder!

Enjoy these years. You'll get tired of hearing it, but it's true . . . they GO SO FAST!

Slow them down. Kiss her every day (multiple times a day), make sure she knows how special she is, then have a HUGE boy as soon as possible to run off the riff-raff as she gets older!

Folks... enough of the 3, 5, 4, ... we're going to be athletic, and the opposition

thus... Purdue.
well ... sorta ... but a team of 5 still needs to fill certain roles, both on off and def. I totally support the ATHLETIC ... but that doesn't change the various roles. It just makes each of them better. An athletic 6' 8" isn't going to play 1 or 5. and an athletic 6' 0 " isn't going to play a 4 or 5 ...

give her/them all the self-confidence and safety-net possible. I am convinced that lack of self-confidence and fear of "failure" are the two most horrible things a girl/young woman can suffer.

Huh?

he has 2 years. Not sure if you missed that in the article, or what?
There was no article posted with the original post. It was all Twitter stuff that mentioned a Frosh/Soph season so I assumed he had 2 years but was not sure how it works since he is a grad transfer. Again, had there been any article to read, I would have perused.
