I barely do, but I went to the game. Purdue won 90-63 on Dec. 10, 1970 in Mackey Arena. Bob Ford had 26 points, Larry Weatherford 20 and William Franklin 18. The only thing I recall is that Purdue head coach George King, a standout NBA player, had a bad knee and went to the hospital right after the game for scheduled surgery the next morning. I can remember seeing King on the bench on crutches in his gold "Century 21" jacket in subsequent games.
Yes, there was someone before Gene Keady that wore the gold sportcoat.
North Texas must have been decent, as they beat Indiana State on their way up to West Lafayette...and the Sycamores opened the 1970-71 season by shocking Purdue 84-82 who had lost just three times in the previous three seasons in the "New Arena."
