Just for fun....had Painter used the portal..

here’s who will be in play for mins next year 1-3 then:

Smith, Cox, West (maybe RS?), Loyer, Colvin, Harris, Benter….and then Heide in there is what you’re thinkin?
I mean again you've got Heide, TKR, Jacobson and Burgess. That's it at the 4/5. And Burgess doesn't seem capable of double digit minutes right now.

I don't think Burgess or Heide is averaging 20+ minutes at the 4. Jacobsen at the 5 means some of those minutes at the 4 go to TKR, possibly a decent chunk. I don't think Burgess is your back up 5.

Painter clearly wants a lineup with Jacobsen at the 5. That means TKR at the 4 some, and then at the 5 some.

So I think there's at least 10-15 minutes available minimum for a senior or grad big man.

Where the real logjam is, is at 1-3 IMO. So if we are going to bring someone in, I don't think it's at point guard or shooting guard, we have two deep at each position as you've noted.

Put another way, we've lost one big man this season and we are looking mighty thin inside after TKR and Heide. Does that strike you as a position we are overloaded at?

So barring injury, to me, IF we bring someone in, and obviously that's the whole point of this hypothetical discussion, ifs, then the most likely spot isn't at 1-3 positions.

At Penn state last year, went for a layup thought he got fouled. Not called. Stayed on that end to complain to refs, Penn state has 5 on 4 and scored. Lots of other times he did this in other games.

Don’t get me wrong, I’d take him in a heart beat
I'm sorry but that's not something I'm going to label the dude as selfish over. Smith has gotten a little silly arguing calls before but no one is going to remote characterize him as selfish.

Tom reporting Walters likely to return…

It seems to me that if this was truly how things were going to play out, why doesn't the athletic department come out 'fully supporting' Walters and at least help with whatever can be done from a recruiting standpoint?
Is it even plausible for anyone outside Walters's family to fully support him right now?

Edwards had a crazy work ethic. I think Ivey was just incredibly gifted. He tended to take some plays off here and there as well. But man... Any space at all and he was dunking on someone. If he would have committed more to the game, maybe Purdue goes to the Elite 8 or F4 that year. At the same time, I'm not sure Painter knew how to use him. It isn't that Painter hasn't ever coached great guards. E'Twaun Moore was awesome. Edwards was awesome. Ivey was a completely different level, a reason he went Top 5 in the draft. Ivey also could have used a better point guard like Smith.

I'm not sure what Edwards was like but you could kinda tell Ivey was different among everyone else at Purdue and much different than anyone Painter has ever had and may have at Purdue.
Yeah, if you think that JI didn’t have a similar work ethic you’re probably an IU fan posting on a Purdue board 😉 Kid worked like crazy but had some immaturity issues that showed up pretty frequently. Definitely a different level athlete than anyone Painter has had but spotty outside shot and no mid-range game to speak of. Tended to melt down when things didn’t go his way.

Edwards didn’t have maturity issues but was definitely his own kind of dude, not a typical Purdue guy. Never really applied himself to play defense or facilitate for others because he didn’t have to but an elite, elite scorer.

I'm thinking the same thing. If CRW is your guy, support him and help save his recruiting class. Prospective transfers are watching this debacle.......

NFL thread

His completion percentage on passes over 15 yards was the worst in the last 15 years going into yesterday.

Don’t confuse didn’t warrant the number one pick with no good. I’d have rather traded down and gotten another haul.

Remember Tomczak vs Harbaugh? Tomczak would suck and get benched halfway through a game and then Harbaugh would turn heads. He’d have another good game and then the next team after that would spend all week game planning for Harbaugh. Then he’d be ehhh and Tomczak would go in and have a good game and so on.

Thomas brown isn’t on film yet with Chicago. In the next 2-3 weeks you’re going to see Moore catch a screen pass that you’ve only seen recently and a guy is going to be waiting for him and knock him into next week. and other plays are going to be diagnosed much better. Then youll see how much Williams has improved.

Then there’s year two. Remember how good stroud was last year? Most QBs have throws they just don’t make well. Areas of the field they don’t see well on certain looks. Year two comes and the guy who can’t throw a great out route sees DBs creep inside a step or two. Then you find out how good a player is really going to be.

I’ll stick by my take on Williams
They had to take him. It was a lock, no brainer, consensus #1 that everyone was waiting for for 2+years. And he’s coming along nicely under an incompetent HC.

Thomas Brown is calling the same offense as Waldron, he’s just doing it a little differently and the players actually like him. Waldron was a huge disaster. What was it, after week 2 that old man Marcedes Lewis went after him and told him to get his shit together? lol. Also the pass pro has looked really good the past 2 weeks. Obviously a big part of that is having your starting tackles back, but also Caleb getting more comfortable orchestrating at the line. He still misses things but can overcome it. See the play yesterday, he misses that Van Ginkel is coming free but makes him miss and then makes a ridiculous throw to Swift for a big gain.

I think he is very, very good. They have to make a good coaching hire.

Tom reporting Walters likely to return…

Yeah I don’t think Tom is a guy to take all that seriously. He seems like a good guy but I don’t think he’s great at his job. We don’t have a real good football insider/columnist and that sucks. Brian is great for BB but we have nothing serious for FB. Kind of mirrors the reality of the program. No one is serious about it.

It does kinda seem like they’re keeping Walters though lol
So what I have gathered Is that Tom is saying Walters is back and that JaMarcus Shephard and Brian Brohm are the 2 guys he will choose from for OC. Lmao

I mean I could see Shephard getting fired, they have 3 (gasp) losses and and everything Saban built has come crashing down, so there will need to be a scapegoat. And maybe a homecoming of sorts would work out. But man, what a step down and you’re probably unemployed again after one season.

Brohm? lol. All I can think is that the natives are restless down there and they are realizing what we should have here, that the Brohmco model is probably not optimal. Brian needs to grow up and be independent. Greg…well…Greg should be working somewhere like all of us do. He’s a real problem lol

Why I don’t think Walters 100% gets fired and why that’s a good thing

Oh no no no. I am not giving a dime. But I’m fine with 5-7. The giving is only required of those who complain. Anyone who has expectations and ISNT giving needs to be the one to put the money where their mouth is.
if we run it back with Walters, how much revenue share should an all time terrible 2025 roster get?
