Tim Doyle says Zach should go into the portal

Lotto picks aren’t always starters. But it’s all about who is wiling to take a chance and develop him more. With the right team, he could be a guy who contributes off the bench and have a nice nba career.
Pretty sure a lottery pick gets cut most years. Not usually as a rookie, but 2 years later. Like Pistons just did with a top 10 -guy couple of weeks ago. Lots of others get traded because they didn't pan out.
I'm not talking about Zach, just that it happens even with lottery picks.
Not a given they'll be around 2 years after being picked, much less starting or not.
Those are usually gifted but not talented types that didn't work hard enough to develop their game.
Or don;'t have the game smarts or instincts to keep getting better.
I dont' think Zach dominates but I think he has a pretty good career as a team/s appreciate the rebounding and pick setting aspects of his game. And see the work ethic that let him develop as quickly as he did.
What we saw in terms of development was very special, probably way more special than we realize as fans.
How many NPOY came from initial ranking below 300 would be an interesting question.
SOOOOOOOOOOO many people are assuming he just stops developing.
Silly.

What does it say about IU

I know Purdue fans want to live in a made up world where Purdue is historically a better program and that what's happened over the past several years is sooo unheard of where Purdue is 13-4... But then don't realize that's it's happened the other way as well in the early 2000s when Indiana was 12-3 at a point. Almost like things happen right? It's wild. Super duper wild. And that 9 game streak sucked but it isn't something that isn't happened before. Record in the series is 13 straight which Indiana did in the late 40s/early 50s. Purdue had a 9 game win streak to start the rivalry off from 1900-1905 and a 12 game win streak from 1908-1914.
Awesome. Minnesota football used to be really good too—won some championships, but things happen, right?

Sure if you want. It is embarrassing to lose to Mike Davis and he was great against Purdue for whatever reason. 9-2. That was mostly against Keady though.
Lmao.

Look, it doesn’t matter if you had new coaches or not, IU lost the games and have been inferior to not just Purdue, but the rest of the B1G for the last two decades.

Whatever you need to do to make you think IU is still thought of as a contender in the B1G, then by all means continue to do that. But everyone outside of the IU fanbase does not and has not thought that in quite some time.

Oh ok, that makes so much sense. I’d then like to take out the wins by IU in 2005-2007 since those were painters first years as a coach. And let’s also take out the wins by IU when they won by 30 cuz…those Purdue teams weren’t very good.

That work?

ESPN re-ranking the Sweet 16

🙄

Well, we are all pulling for you … good luck!
Who is "We". Kind of doubt that you speak for every Illinois fan. Especially after the way your crowd acted when playing us. I'd be shocked if all of those idiots are cheering for PU.

I generally like Underwood and usually don't have any problem with Illinois in general, but this years team is just not very likeable. Doesn't mean they aren't good, which they are. Just not a team I'm pulling for. Just 1 guys take.

What does it say about IU

I have to ask. Do you live outside the state of Indiana? It makes a difference for a lot of people who interact with their fans on a regular basis.

Nope, born and raised in Indiana and Purdue Alum. I just happen to think ignoring their entire dumpster fire program is the biggest flex to show they are little brother now. :)

Painter goes into the portal

Never say never and it probably have to be the perfect transfer but I’d put it at less than 5% if it were to happen.
That’s about the same odds I would give it as well. If we would, it would be late summer and right before fall practice because Painter feels like we have a gap that needs to be addressed.

Painter goes into the portal

So I was thinking when Painter finished the 2024 class and knew he was oversigned - did he and the staff have a feeling someone was going to leave or an idea who they would ask to leave?

Reason I bring this up, what if there is someone in the portal who reaches out about transferring because they want to be on an established winning team? They aren’t in the portal for NIL deals. Do you think we would entertain them because they have another person identified to leave?

Again, all hypothetical.

Essegian to portal

I just checked the IUStar website. Big article about players in the portal for IU to consider. I don't subscribe, so I don't know the content.
Well there’s like 1,000 kids already in portal..so just understand that all 1,000 want to go to IU…errr that’s what Indinia fans think. So that’s the list basically.

What does it say about IU

No mental gymnastics. The immediate fallout from Sampson was essentially fatal. Arbor 4 years were embarrassing. And those years absolutely hurt Indiana. Archies 4 years hurt more than Creans first 3 probably.

What does it say about IU

That Kelvin Sampson sucked for IU but has his Cougars with a number 1 seed and playing well in the tourney so far. I am really not an IU hater as I grew up in Ohio and had to learn to hate IU when i went to Purdue, but makes you wonder is a bigger issue down south that just the coach.
We're in the middle of a tournament run and this is the thought going thru your head? And now you've got those dipshits over here clogging the board talking about their garbage program.

Do better.

What does it say about IU

Well no. Indiana was in the Top 15 at time in 22-23, just not at the same time of playing Purdue. It's just been since 08 that both were Top 15 when playing. 22-23 was close. Both teams were Top 25. Indiana won both. 15-16 Purdue was 17th and Indiana was 22nd and Indiana won. I believe those are the last 3 ranked matchups unfortunately.

As far as the last 3 decades, Tom Creans first 3 years and Archies time really killed Indianas side of things. That accounts for 12 losses. Indiana leads outside of, barely. And leads in matchups when both are ranked and actually good.
Hey, whatever mental gymnastics you need to do to convince yourself that IU is a good program, go right ahead.
