It should be said that this was a player that Painter was still recruiting even though he had reached his scholarship limit. And painter said This is the guy ewe want and need.

I’m not a huge fan of Painters’s 3 guard offense. But if you are going to put a guard in the 3 spot, Harris is probably the best choice and most talented player for the position.

Braden and Loyer were outstanding as freshmen. I have to believe Harris will be just as good.

As for Cox, Myles, Heide and all the rest, they are still great players, but Harris is better.

As I look at all the players painter was recruiting this summer, I have to believe they saw Harris and didn’t want to compete with him for playing time.

Is Harris better than Haralson and Mullins and Sisley and all the rest? I don’t know. But he could be.

I always felt that Purdue missed the boat by not hiring Brock Spack when Tiller left. Brock was his choice and Brock would never have left us in the situation we have now.
So what do we do? There is time now to reach out to any number of coaches and see who is really the best fit. I don't mean just culture, but winning in the new era of football. We also want someone that will stay for the long haul. We don't need someone that is just looking for a stepping stone but looks at it like it is a destination job. They are out there, we just need to find them.
We also need to be realistic about what we need to spend to field a competitive team. Let's go!

There are advantages in firing HC now before the season officially ends:

1. It gives notice that a HC job is open and that coaches (who are still employed elsewhere) can have time to think about the opportunity before their agents get involved.
2. It seems that most coaching hires in December (especially early December) already had initial contacts via agents as the season was winding down. (It may not have been official contacts but very preliminary contacts with agents representing individuals who know of coaches)
3. If you wait until Dec. 1 to fire a HC and then start a search committee to hopefully make a decision by the end of December, it typically is too late and the choice candidates have been hired by some other school.
