is it Odom?

Yeah, what you need is a guy that knows how to build a staff.

That's the thing with football, the team is too big for the head coach to do it all so you have to be able to higher staff that can do what you want/need them to do.

Correct and Odom has always been connected.

He had Petrino coming with him to UNLV until A&M hopped in and offered Bobby like $2 mil to be OC.

I am not worried about the offensive side of the ball with Odom. Not really worried about defensive side either.

The thing about Odom is he is not some master of PR. He is a good recruiter but not a great one. He isnt a hype salesman like Drinkwitz or Kiffin or even Ryan Day that is why a lot of Mizzou fans never liked him. Recruiting in the big 10 should suit him better than the SEC.

I think Arkansas wanted to bring him back as HC if Pittman would have retired.

is it Odom?

It's not a name that wows me, but he does have not only head coaching experience, but head coaching experience in a major conference. He's done well at UNLV in a short period of time. Got an extension this past spring after his first season. I admittedly don't know anything about his schemes. UNLV did play Boise tough in their regular season game, and didn't get blown out by any means last night.
I agree. UNLV has traditionally been a bad football school, and he has at least made them relevant.

Antione West JR. 2025 commit

Watched him last night. Kid has an elite court sense. Big physical body for a HS player. Keeps his head up even when doubled. He should have had double digit assist his teammates were unable make open shots. IMO, he looks for others WAY too much considering their inability execute. Compares closely to CJ Cox in many ways just a bigger version. I don't recall any player scoring on him. His team plays a switching defense and not really well. They gave the other team wide open three's all game long. Watching him play this year is going to be rough if one of their starters remains as a starter. Not going to name him but oh my seemed like it was 4 on 6 all night long. I started watching him last year he has matured a lot in one year especially in upper body strength. I see this morning he has moved up to #77 on ESPN's top 100 seems about right to me. I guess he maybe took 5 shots 1 of 3 from 3 finished with around 9 points. When I watched him this summer he was more of a scorer, and I expected to compare him to E'Twaun but CJ is much closer to what I watched last night. Kid has what it takes to find the floor in a crowded field of point guards. He will be successful at Purdue and beyond. I like his game and mental attributes has all the tools.

Keep Matt Painter thread

He represents integrity
He loves Purdue and the kids he coaches
He is part of Purdues Brand like Keady
He is one of the winningest coaches in college basketball
He understands the game and raises the level of his players on and off the court

I would trust my son with him to teach him the good values I had been installing in him where that may not be the case in this game these days. Winning is always secondary to integrity with Matt and that's where my kid is going.

Fire Matt Painter Petition...

Did you write this for attention ? wow , just wow! Your talking about one of the most respected coaches in college basketball. There is always room for improvement and I'm sure CMP is tougher on himself than this post. Keady fell short at time but he loved Purdue as does Painter , I loved watching Gene. Obviously Painter hasn't met your " expectations " and I understand you posting your disappointment, but when it comes to family and CMP is family we don't get rid of them discard them , we encourage them and a rise and fall with them , but there's always a place at the table. CMP loves his players and that's good enough, ask Hummel, Ivey, Edey ... he's a father figure to them . So I'll start a post keep Painter.

is it Odom?

I'd say this is probably a too-assumptive statement. Simply because he's a defensive guy means he's "lost" on offense? I think this takes this whole 'we-need-an-offensive-guy-like-Tiller-or-Brohm' a bit over the edge.

He’s pretty much always had a good OC. He has a good eye for talent in that regard.

At Mizzou he had great offenses and a terrible defense in part because of Walters.

Hurpel was is first OC and now he has this new guy who will also be a HC soon.

And that is really the key to being a head coach, an eye for coaching talent.

is it Odom?

Reminded that Odom has a DEFENSIVE background. His offense is nothing without his OC…
