OT!! - IU STINKS!!!!

Maybe, maybe not.....you'd have to assume the whole conference season then would play out the same way, but yes - Purdue finished 3rd @ 14-6 to regular season co-champs Illinois (whom Purdue beat twice) and Wisconsin (who beat Purdue twice) (15-5). Certainly, the game in Madison would have made a difference. That Purdue team was talented (top ten all season and #1 for one week) but IIRC, other than the game @ Michigan, all the conference losses were the result of either getting outplayed in the last few minutes or key Boiler mistakes or both (@ Rutgers, @ Indiana, Wisconsin (2), @ Michigan State). They were almost always trailing in the conference standings.
Was that Michigan game the one where it was like our 4th or 5th one in 8 days cuz Michigan had covid or was that the previous year?

Issues

I'm not declaring anything, just asking what I think is a fair question. There is no doubt that Braden is very good. He'll have plenty of opportunities to show whether he's actually great (or not), starting on Sunday.
The main reason is there is no Zach in the middle. Last year he had the best big man in college basketball as his batman and now there is no batman to lean on and there's only Alfred.

Issues

Zach covered up so much. He provided so many open looks for teammates, and covered up for Purdue not being able to stop the ball. Not to mention, when shots weren’t falling and turnovers happened he provided extra offensive boards and of course a dependable easy bucket or three. They missed him a lot tonight, especially Braden . Having said that, I recall a game like this last year vs Nebraska.

Issues

Is Braden actually just a good but not great player? So far he’s laid two eggs when really good defensive teams have focused on taking him out of his game. Maybe that’s all that he has.
He has no help bringing the ball up when he gets double teamed no body steps up to make the other team pay it will be a long season if they don’t figure it out

Issues

This team needs the opposition to miss shots. But they allow too many good ones. They’ve got to get so so so much better defensively, which everyone knew would be a thing. But it just looks so bad when we have to take the ball out after a made basket or free throw. It’s just Braden being hounded and handing it off 40 feet from the basket, then back to him, and then nothing.

Frustrating to watch us get dog walked twice already. But we have a good coach and good players, so let’s find some answers.

Dave Doeren

I remember him being a target a few years ago. He's 87-64 at NCST, only 53, 12 yrs as a HC in the ACC.
Don't know much about his recruiting, offensive philosophy or players in the NFL.
Seems to check a lot of boxes.

He's 47-51 in conference. He runs a conservative offense. Not sure what boxes he's checking.

Hard pass.

Purdue at Penn State: MASTER DISCUSSION THREAD

Lots of things to learn from the game: Smith needs to bring ball up less. More inverted pick and roll. Less direct post ups for tkr because he gets pushed out way too far or if he does get good position the defender just leans on his left shoulder and he has no counter over the right shoulder. Harris cant shoot unless around the rim. Loyer cant carry the load if he cant play off a solid center. Need to push ball much much more as an offensive goal not just if teams press. But of course attack the press more when teams play like that. Figure out how to counter an agressively hedging 5 man. This has been shown to give Smith trouble all the way back to the Northwestern game last year. PJ needs to figure out a counter and drill it into the team.
For the defense just keep improving and be mentally strong on that side.
The key to the hedging big is to attack from the wings instead of the top of the key. They did just that the first play of the second half and scored easily.

Hey women made back to back FF.

Stop the love affair with Rik Smits!
obviously not mentally prepared for big 10 roadhouse!

8th in country got in their heads, gotta bring it

For my amateur 2 cents coaching, not sure why we started the game trying to force it inside so much

Seems like this year against bigger teams like this start outside and then go in

Hard to believe they can look so bad, I guess they’re human, rats!
We wii always try to go inside first
