OT - Regional Final Games

MSU loses 4 guys at least. 2 of those, Adkins & Richardson leaving leaves Major holes. The Fidler(sp) kid was good off bench, also gone. They have 2 frosh guards coming in, doubt either Richardson quality -- so they will need a couple great guards from the portal.

Richardson is a freshman, isn't he, Buck? Akins, Fidler, and Zapala graduate I think.

Izzo will probably pick up one or two if I were forced to wager, and they might have another departure. I expect Michigan State to be tough again next year. Maryland and Illinois - have no idea - a lot of turnover with both.

OT - Regional Final Games

When kohler is your leading scorer, you’re not gonna win too many games.

Their inability to shoot finally caught up to them. Playing a 15, 10 and the 6 helps to get to the E8. Wonder how much they’ll use the portal

IU & Purdue

to those that don't know, other teams this year have scored in a similar fashion at the rim when Purdue defended that way already this year. Had it not been defended before, Houston wouldn't have done what a couple of teams did this year. It was a chance Purdue didn't need to take with 2 seconds on the clock. Purdue got cute when they played 2-3 zone with AJ in the middle except on out of bounds and North Florida hits a high school O/Bs play and beats Purdue. Lot of hype when the reality was it was a poor call on D. I understand it and works fine when the offensive player comes strong side as that allows Braden to take him and usually it was Fletcher that ended up on the trigger man, but you can't switch back on the triggerman if the cut is weakside...happened to Purdue earlier in the season... :(

Painter has forgotten more basketball than I'll ever know, but this is one of those times where Purdue being predictable really hits them with an experienced squad and coach. Sampson and Houston were ready for it.

Sometimes I'd love to see them change it up somewhere - so maybe even if Smith flashes to pick-up Cryer, they do something else different that they haven't shown.....Kaufman-Renn at a minimum had to deny the inbound.......agree though, with under three seconds....overly risky in a tie game to me, but hindsight is also 20/20 - lack of equal paint presence doesn't help either.....plus, Purdue had no time-outs as well.

Oscar Cluff to visit Sunday

I agree with this, but TKR was absolutely dominating in the post on offense. While CMP may let him pull the trigger a little more, history has shown, he likes the bigs to stay in their lane.
I get it and don't disagree. I'd argue that Trey is not Zach on a number of fronts: 1) the biggest reason that MP didn't have Zach take threes is that it took him out of rebounding position 2) Zach didn't need to shoot threes to play in the NBA (it doesn't hurt that he can), Trey absolutely does.

I don't know, but suspect that a significant reason why Trey would welcome the addition of Cluff is it allows him to get out of the post a bit more without hurting the team's chances at winning. MP plays to win, but he's also a pragmatist, which is why he let Biggie shoot a bunch of threes as a freshman.

So how does this work with Trey? Neither shoots from outside the paint too often. Cluff does seem like a very capable passer though. Is it going to be a platoon situation? Are we going to play two guys down low like IU? Curious to see how this unfolds if Cluff does come here. I trust Painter.
He could play with Heide at the four or with DJ for the most part as a backup to Trey. If he plays with Trey, they can play high low.

Completely agree with this. There were reports that Trey put a lot of work into his three in the offseason and I believe he took three threes in the first game but then DJ got hurt and he became strictly and pnr and post scorer, shooting four threes the rest of the season.

I suspect that Trey would welcome the opportunity to show that he can hit some open threes.

Apparently he had already visited Iowa state prior to this visit and ISU was unable to strike a deal
I know I balked at this at first, primarily because he's a scorer and I didn't know where the shots would come from, but assuming Trey is involved in the decision, I think this is huge on several levels: 1) elite rebounder 2) allows Trey to play more aggressive on defense with less fear of foul trouble 3) provides a different look from DJ on defense, one that is more likely to be able to switch five ways 4) provides another option on offense without giving up size.

TKR needs to improve his range as well - Guy for IU - flexor - didn’t do it - but if he does we will be tough

As of today, best portal entrants The best men’s NCAA basketball transfer portal players per position, including Owen Freeman

Ill be surprised if painter doesnt go after koch from iowa unless hes already off the table. I agree on another ball handler as well. Probably be an older kid from a mid major whos had decent success that wont cost much.
Why do You have so little confidence in Cox and Harris. They have shown they can handle the ball. And they will when the time is right.

Thanks…. Definitely needs some time with Brantley, but I could see him helping us next year. If Brantley can round off the edges, and he’s going against TKR every day, he will improve. Looks like he has a little more range than TKR also.

Here's something I haven't seen posted yet. Against Alabama earlier this year he went for 21 pts and 15 rbs.

He's number 45 in the vid.
