Any idea who Coach Painter is talking about?

Michigan has a high school kid coming in at QB with an NIL deal in the $10M range. Is he worth it? I guess that depends on what the criteria is. But his 'worth' is whatever someone is willing to pay him.
Is UM trying to buy a championship? Maybe, but no UM fan (nor Purdue fan if Purdue was paying that much) is going to apologize if the kid is big time successful.
What do you mean “is UM trying to buy a championship”? It’s not maybe, it’s Absolutely they are, lol. Just like BYU bball is spending 7M on Dybansta next year.

Just like IU and every other school that is willing to spend the money and that has the money. But when will they learn that most freshman (and players) aren’t worth that much for college? Obviously there are some.

But look at Washington bball. They paid Osobor and estimated 2M….dude is a role player at best on a P5 (he would have been a decent option next to TKR tbh) and is out of shape (that would have changed at Purdue). Look at IU, paying Ballo 1M. He’s out of shape and the definition of being good only because he’s usually the biggest guy on the court. When he has actual competition his size, he’s not very good (similar to ward last year).

Colvin and Heide yikes

Don't have to outbid, just have to find the right pieces. Like Jones last year. I think he will look in the portal for next year but he seemed content to see if Colvin, Heide could make the jump he needed. Don't think either have so he may look for a wing this summer that can play the 3.
Benter will be impactful next year I think. You can't discount kids that aren't successful as sophs right away. Plenty of very fine players that didn't put it together till they were upperclassmen. I'm sure Paint will weigh all the options. But I also won't be worried if they stand pat.

CJ Cox X factor this year and next

Caleb's points are topping. Caleb's ability to defend by moving his feet helps a lot on screens, ball screens in particular. His ability to run the court adds pressure as Braden pushes the ball and his ability to rebound or at least keep the ball alive is also helpful. He knows his future is not in basketball and so he has NO personal goal outside of the team and doing all he can to advance the team. He has been a starter and he has sat the bench, but this is his last chapter in his book of his life in basketball and he hopes it is the best.

None of this is to dismiss CJ or Giccari as I have typed about them quite a few times.
I think this is what happens to those many valiant Boilers who struggled at times but came alive, mostly without any warning, as seniors. Realizing it's "the last time" you're going to school X or facing "that" coach has to start impacting most at some point there. And they just think "I'm going out fighting" and they commence to laying it all out there. I was praying for it happen to this oh so worthy kid and we all may have gotten lucky.

Wow !!

Mr. Bigelow views himself as a Sheldon Cooper type, smarter than anyone else in the room, but not accepted as such by others. I have lived here 25 years. My interactions with Mr Bigelow have been confined to this board. It appears my life may have been less interesting by that choice.
Less interesting is an interesting choice of words. However, it probably makes things more understandable. I'm still trying to understand why he comes on here and rants about someone other than you, but we have no idea not only who that is, but why that is? You would think that if you were responding to someone in particular or about someone in particular it might be inside an existing thread since his lack of interest here would NOT have an old saga he wanted to resurrect.

I'm still baffled, but as Ronnie Van Zant alluded...I'm a Simple Man

Im not sure the x factor is just one guy. With Furst moving into the starting lineup along with cox, the rebounding is a lot better and the defense seems sharper. Colvin and Heide will get their highlights - Colvin had a nice game yesterday as well. As for harris, his minutes are pretty solid and consistent. Both freshman haven't turned the ball over a whole lot either.

In another thread I discussed the symptoms of Low Intellect TDS, a variant of TDS that manifests itself with unhinged rants characterized by the inability to put two sentences together that focus on a single topic. In the previous example, he went from sheep to Putin to Taliban to grocery prices. In this episode, Wolegib bounces from SIBoiler to Carterville to Trump to rigged elections. This pretty much confirms my diagnosis.
laughing with you and did read the previous post. What seems to be a common thread is the personal attacks rather than the subject at hand. Whatever happened to the 95 guy that was very active before the election? I hope he is adjusting well as we try to return to some sense of normality, freedom of speech and merit...

Wow !!

It is quite confusing. I have no idea who this was addressed? Obviously with his wording of "it also explains why SI Boiler" and so the "explains who you really are" is someone other than SIBoiler and if that isn't confusing enough he follows up with SIBoiler not stopping in (which obviously is upsetting) and then goes one to say it was SIBoiler's loss when SIBoiler was not upset? Maybe he has some health issues at this time and the doctors haven't determined exactly what is needed. Normally, he ties something together a little bit, but this was out of right field with no reference for anyone except SIBoiler upsetting him by not stopping in to say hello in 10 years with a followup that it is SIBoiler that has the loss even though I'm unaware of SIBoiler ever indicating he had that loss. So confusing...

Michigan at Purdue

Disclaimer, I did not see the game or follow it as I had other plans all weekend.

New starting lineup this game. After not playing at all for a game or two Poole started instead of Amiyah, with similar results: only a couple of points, more turnovers than assists and pulled early to sit at the end of the bench until the second half. Also Puryear started at center instead of McCarthy, which confuses me as it seems Puryear is the more foul prone of the two, but they are pretty equivalent in performance overall.

From looking at the box score:
Collier still a waste of minutes, 21 minutes, 2 points on 6 shots and no free throws once again.0 rebounds two assists and two steals.
Swanson fouled out in only 11 minutes of playing time.
Layden had a poor shooting night, going 2-7. Still once again better than Collier.
Jones played 30 minutes off the bench and is still the only credible point guard we have, getting 3 assists for a team high but also 3 TOs. She was also the leading scorer with 11 points on 2-3 shooting and 7-8 fts.
Too few rebounds, too many fouls and way too many turnovers... all hallmarks of a Gearlds/Versyp coached team against any NCAA level tournament team.

Next up a trip to the pacific northwest for two games against OU and UWash on Plum's jersey retirement night. Guessing two more blowouts.

Creme has 13 teams from the BigTen in the NCAA tournament, so I guess that means we have 4 games we might have a chance in against the other winless in conference teams and UWisc at home.

update on portal

Hmmmm.....I thought this thread was on portal updates.
Sorry for derailing the thread. I guess I'd rather play ND than take an L to teams like Toledo 2010, Northern Illinois 2013, Eastern Muchigan in 2018. Just to count games I personally went to. I'm sure we lost plenty of more games that when you win it doesn't mean much. When you lose you look like idiots.

Not sure why everyone wants to emulate little brother.

CJ Cox X factor this year and next

This is easy to say after he has a game like he did yesterday. What if Wednesday he goes 1-5 with 1 rebound? I do think that CJ has put a different kind of energy into the starting 5. Yesterday was a lot of fun. Hopefully it continues, especially with the long road trip this week. Gotta take care of business first at Washington.

Colvin and Heide yikes

If Painter found a 6'5 ball handler who can shoot, create, get their own shot, etc, and his role is primarily to be the 1 or 2 scoring option, then Painter will figure out a way to use his strengths.
I don't know that anyone is arguing against that. As I posted above, a tiny percentage of available players are going to make the team better by being a scoring option above Trey, Braden and Fletch. If they can land one of those guys, awesome, and I agree that Painter would do it.

The vast majority of portal options would need to take a more complimentary role.

Deja Vu

Smith is the best point guard we have ever had. Loyer is one of the best shooters ever. TKR is playing great. These players would play for any team in the country. Smith would start for any team in the country.
I am slow to go with the "best evers" but they are all individually and collectively pretty damn good. I got Mount as best shooter, Dischinger as best forward and Smith maybe best PG but Parkinson was no slouch. Anyway this team is fun to watch as they ratchet up the defense and up the tempo.

Apologize or condemn?
