Women V Ball wins at Minny

Purdue has the easiest remaining 4 game schedule (Michigan, NW, Nebraska & IU - all at home except for NW) of any of the contenders - not that we couldn't lose to any of them (like we lost to MSU at home - Grrr). But we played Nebraska well at their place and that was without Jael Johnson. We need someone to beat the the contenders, but since they play each other it will happen one way or the other. We just need to take care of our business to win the B1G title (at least a share) for the first time in forever.

The funny thing is that when you look at team stats (https://bigten.org/stats.aspx?path=wvball&year=2021), we only lead in ONE of the twelve categories (Opponent Blocks Allowed) and in many we are way down the list. It seems like Purdue wins by doing a lot of things "pretty well" and through an incredible team cohesion - as well as depth. And good coaching!

I would hope when national rankings come out today we are the top-ranked B1G team and in the top five nationally. But who knows?

Probably 6-8 range. If they win out they have a shot to be 4th or 5th heading into the tourney.

Wow, you are correct. We beat Wisky twice, yet they are still at #5 while we are at #6, Go figure.

How closely does the seeding usually adhere to the rankings?

1. Louisville - 24-0, beat us 3-0 on September 10th.
2. Texas - 20-1, only loss to Baylor 3-1. Beat Minnesota 3-1 in September.
3. Pittsburgh - 24-2, 3-2 losses to Georgia Tech and Louisville. Beat Washington State, Tennessee, Baylor and BYU non-conference.
4. BYU - 25-1, loss to Pitt in September
5. Wisconsin - 21-3, loss at Maryland and swept by Purdue.
6. Purdue - 20-5, losses to Louisville, Illinois, Ohio State, Nebraska, and Michigan State
7. Baylor - 16-5, losses to Wisconsin, Tennessee, Pittsburgh, Texas Tech and Texas
8. Kentucky - 20-4, losses to Creighton, Wisconsin, Louisville, and South Carolina

Top 3 appear to be solidly ahead of us imo. I think you can argue 4th place and after. BYU doesn't have any great wins in my opinion and Purdue swept Wisconsin.

Doc, if the ladies win out I think they leapfrog at least 1 and probably both of BYU and Wisky, they possibly can rise over Pitt as well, Louisville and Texas are pretty much locked in. One game at a time though, Michigan on Friday night won’t be easy, they’re pretty good and could use a huge win as a tourney boost.

This team Coujd go far
Played really well except when Johnson was out for a few
Yep, her and Hornung at the same time. Mich State played great that night, however, no way they beat Purdue with Jael and a healthy Hornung in the lineup, not sure at OSU where they both were out, that still would have been tough.

Unfortunate that Wisky VB eked out a win at the Gophers. Minnesota had several match points but could not make it happen.

It now is much less likely that Purdue can win or tie for the league championship as the Badgers are in the driver's seat. Nebraska would have to beat the Badgers in Madison on Friday (while we beat IU-we should) and then we would have to beat the Cornhuskers on Saturday at Holloway, Possible but difficult.

This despite the fact that we beat Wisconsin twice. Damn that MSU game!

Yea, Wisky beating Minny was a killer, probably kills any shot of a top 4 seeding as well. Oh well, win the last two and see what happens, I would think 2 more wins and a #5. or #6 at the lowest national seed happens. Don’t want Louisville or Texas in the bracket, the rest are fine.

Didnt realize Nebraska has such a killer 2-game stretch coming up this week to finish the season. AT Wisconsin Fri, then AT Purdue Sat.
Back to back away games against 2 of the top teams in the conference. Wow. Just glad we aren’t facing that. Geez Nebraska will be worn out - oh darn.

Ok, lemme try this reply again…. Hit something wrong when I tried to post earlier…….

Excellent job with the Big Ten making the schedule. Wisconsin and Nebraska tied at the top of the standings with 15-3 records face off on Friday night. We are currently alone in 3rd at 14-4. Ohio State and Minnesota tied for 4th at 13-5.

Nebraska plays at Wisconsin on Friday night and that game will either seal the championship for Wisconsin (they host IU to close the season). If Nebraska knocks off Wisconsin and we beat IU on Friday, we get a shot at a 3-way tie if we can beat Nebraska on Saturday night. If Wisconsin wins, our match with Nebraska will be for sole possession of 2nd place.

Ohio State finishes at Rutgers and at Maryland. Minnesota finishes at Penn State and at Maryland.
