Why is everyone freaking out

I respect good, honest coaches. You don't. That's fine. (I'm settling in for Sunday Night Football. Can do this all night if you want.)
Oh for heaven's sake! He is not saying Painter should lie, or be dishonest. Let's let this stupid flame war over nothing die out.

I also think Painter could be a better salesman, without lying or misrepresenting the Purdue basketball program. He needs to learn how to present the benefits of the program in a more positive light.

Can you tell me what he did wrong in particular instances then? What was it that cost us JJJ for example?

Your responses have just been a copy of what i say. At least i have the capacity to think on my own.

Because your accusations are so basic and simple that they required nothing more than to just state the same thing about you. Put more into your weak arguments and I'll spend an appropriate amount of time to discard those.

It's not one "particular instance". It's a pattern of not being able to "get them to sign, on the line, that is DOTTED!"

I'm in sales, you're obviously not, and that's fine. Any sales guy who has 2 bad years in a row is getting his ass canned, especially one with a huge base salary. Sales is about building relationships, and Izzo is just better at it than CMP. Not calling for CMP's head, but I think he's got to do something different.

So you have no responses of your own. Just what i thought.

The big problem with your sales analogy is that the coaches aren't selling the same product. It's just easiest for simple-minded people to only account for one factor.

Um, duh. No sales people are selling the exact same product. That's why good sales people make a lot of money. You have to sell the benefits of your product. And once again, you have to BUILD A RELATIONSHIP with the client. This is where Izzo is simply better than CMP.

If I want to go buy a Dodge Viper, it doesn't matter how good the salesman is or what type of relationship he has with me....he's not going to convince me to buy a Dart instead.

LOL - that's not sales, but you wouldn't know that.

If it were that simple, and recruits automatically went with the school they like best, why would we pay CMP $2.5 million? We would be better off with a 100K guy from D3 who just sits at a desk and mails out offers to the top 100 players. Because they're just going to go with the school they like best, right?

No because recruiting isn't the entire job. Your analogy is pretty pathetic the further we go down this road.

When recruiting top tier talent connections the name of the game. It's been that way for awhile and will continue to be that way. You see a top level recruiter on most staffs because they have the connections with the AAU programs and areas with talent. This is true throughout the B1G some programs just have a lead recruiter with more connections to get them in the door.

one of the worst things a salesman can do is drive a customer away from their own product/service.

some in the pro painter crowd have actually figured out a way to make it even worse here than the anti painters made it -
the profanity, personal insults, childish bickering, etc just contributes to driving away more of our fans from the board and making this an unenjoyable place.

Hopefully the remnants of peegs rivals users will forget their log ins and fade away from here.

I get it man, you love you some Painter for whatever reason. You just won't admit recruiting ain't his strong suit, but that's cool.

And recruiting is the biggest single part of his job. I know you don't want to hear that, but it's true.

I disagree with that but I know you don't want to hear that. In your mind, whoever recruits the best classes will win it all and nothing matters except coaches being able to manipulate kids with the highest rankings to come to their program. I can see why you don't like him with that philosophy. Too bad for you he's going to be at Purdue for many years to come.
