What It Will Take to Revive Football

As many have stated and what's quite obvious, coaching and recruiting make all the difference. To recruit you have to sell and to sell it sure helps to bleed black and gold. Let's get some former players involved as coaches and I'll bet recruiting improves. Criticize if you'd like, but would we be worse off in terms of talent or performance over the last 3 years if Brock Spack was our coach? I'm not saying he's the answer, just an example of the concept. We recruited and developed some pretty good defensive players when he was around...

I thought Hope was making marked progress on the recruiting side so I won't agree with you there, his downside was questionable late game clock management and play calling which never improved...wonder who he might have hired as Coorinators and Asst. Coaches if he had the budget Hazell has?

He would have kept nord. They were friends. He would have had a better defensive staff for sure.

Hope's worst class was better than Haze's best, plus he brought us a National Kickoff Return Championship.

The part I'll disagree with you is your solution. Yes, we need to get a coach who can sell the program. Doesn't mean they need former players on staff, need Brock Spack, etc.

Maryland's coach has literally 0 connections to the state of Maryland, brought in 0 Maryland alumni for his assistants, yet is already showing massive gains in recruiting. He wasn't some high profile name, but he's VERY well connected and has extensive respect in the coaching world.
