W/ Flecht and Lance missing so many shots.......

Then we might say, 'sure wish Colvin had played more in the conference season when the games didn't matter so much, so he would have been ready for this one".
When their team loses, armchair coaches will always come out with their pet narratives for why it happened.

So either he's the savior, or he would have been if he only played more?

Look, I love Colvin but he's a frosh, we have a deep team and a 6 man class coming in. Every talking head who says we "need" Heide or Colvin as a bench piece weapon is because "Our guards can't handle athleticism" not that we can't hit threes. Or our guards will "struggle with the press". Everytime we've had a game this year where our guards were going to have trouble, they've been excellent. Everytime teams have pressed, they have more or less handled it, at least far better than past team (we still need to attack it, not get it across the line and breathe a sigh of relief)

Like most teams, we're susceptible to a team who

1) has one player absolutely go off

2) team wide phenominal shooting

I don't want him to leave, far from it, but if he's that unhappy after freshman year, the team will still be fine.

I highly doubt that if Smith, Jones, Fletch, Gillis all can't hit anything again in the tourney, than the solution will be to magically bring in Colvin and chuck threes. And the difference won't be minimal playing time throughout the year.

The tournament is a crap shoot. Alabama, Arizona, Kansas, etc almost crapped the bed as bad as Purdue did last year.

You also have to remember, We aren't a traditionally a team that chokes in the tournament. Maybe individual games, sure, but not overall performance based on seed. We didn't lose the first 9 appearances in the NCAAT in the first round under Painter. Almost everytime we've under achieved, we've had a late season injury. They had Virginia (the number one seed) beat until a rebound on a free throw became a long rebound.

North Texas and FDU obviously were not pretty, but it's recency bias. St Peters we lost to a 15 seed in the Sweet 16 game. They beat two other teams before us, and even played UNC that year fairly well.

I used to always joke that the "Painter Plateau" was the sweet 16 because he generally didn't have a problem getting to the sweet 16, it was moving on from there. Until Carsen Edwards at least. This losing in the first round just feels more horrible because it's been 12, 15, and 16 seeds in consecutive years.

We have a history of injuries, we have a history of bad luck. Generally don't have a legacy of epic failing. 4-12 games happen. the 15 seed was in the sweet sixteen game. They epic failed last year with a freshman backcourt.

As upsetting as the last few years have been. and as how devastating it would be to do a nothingburger again this year. The tournament failures are overblown and people get so worked up about losing to a 16 again, they grasp at coaching changes that need to happen. If Colvin isn't getting any time, there is a reason. It's no different than the bears, where everyone's favorite player is the back up QB.

I am also thinking about injuries we and others have suffered in previous years with teams that looked like they could make a deep run. Good to get guys some experience in these pre-tournament games.

Even just 5-7 minutes a game on a regular basis.
