This game is becoming less and less appealing for the resume. First the loss at Baylor, then lose their starting center, then lose at home again Dayton. Won't be ranked when we play them. Must win now, even tho it probably was before.

Last year our resume was a concern. This year, I'm not too worried. Just keep winning.

Fair, but this was seen as a marquee non-conference win. Now they have 3 losses and are without their starting center. A loss means a heck of a lot more than a win now.

Looks like the best two teams we will have played in the NC will wind up being Dayton and Butler

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think bubble/low-seeded teams are only concerned about marquee wins. The top 4 seeding follows very close to their rank.

For those who keep saying they lost their starting center, that's wrong.

Even though Kornet is 7'1", he's listed on their roster as a forward and played mostly on the perimeter. They have another 7 footer who's their center (Damian Jones). He was 18 pts, 8 RBs vs Dayton and will be the Haas/Hammons responsibility. Biggie would have drawn Kornet and each would have been the other's biggest challenge to date. Now Biggie should feast on his 6'6" backup who was scoreless from the field, with 3 RBs and 4 PFs vs Dayton.

Jones is a first round draft pick for 2016, and ate AJ's lunch last year in Nashville. Hopefully the favor is returned in Mackey.

My concern has more to do with this team continually being challenged before Conference play. I want to be in a position where we can go head to head with Maryland and MSU in close games and say "we've been here before" as we grind out a victory. So each tough game in NC matters. This could have been a great match up for our guys, and now it's turning into a "don't screw it up" kind of game.

What?! But Vandy was ranked ahead of Dayton in all the polls and every expert I read thought Vanderbilt was the better team! How could this be?????

I suspect Vandy will be fine. Dayton is pretty good.

Kudos to Kevin Stallings for putting together a challenging non-conference schedule that included the Maui Invitational along with true road games at Baylor and Purdue.

Also Vandy lost their 7 footer Luke Kornet in practice for 4-6 weeks before the Dayton game. Sorry to see that as I was looking forward to Purdue matching up with Kornet who is a talented player.

Vandy didn’t need Kornet to beat PU last year. He was a complete no-show with 0 pts, 0 shot attempts, 2 Reb & 4 fouls. Vandy’s starting 5 from last night’s game scored 59 pts against PU last year, and their leading scorer this year (Baldwin) only had 3 of those.

Vandy’s 3 losses are all by single digits. 2 of those were ranked teams (Kansas in Maui & at Baylor) & 1 has a good chance to be ranked next week (Dayton). I imagine Vandy is still going to be a real tough test, and I can’t wait to see how our Boilers handle it.

Stallings consistently underachieves. And always seems to get overrated. They are the Iowa of the SEC.

Except that the SEC rarely goes more than 4-5 deep in quality teams, and often only one or two in the top 25 (with KY, obviously, almost always in the top ten). Iowa (or name your favorite B1G underachiever) has a much tougher row to hoe once the conference season starts in the B1G than Vandy has in the SEC.

Meh. In the scheme of things Vandy losing a couple games won't mean much to Purdue's resume. They are a good team and will probably win about 20 games. Beating them would be a RPI-100 quality win whereas losing to them would not be a bad loss.
Side note, they are one of only 12 teams in the top 25 offensive and defensive adjusted efficiency per Ken Pom. Their stats thus far, much like UConn and Georgetown, suggests the W's are coming.

A W is a W, is a W. Spread the wealth/minutes/ball/fun/experience, & grow a deeper team by the game. A deeper team, is a happier/wealthier/wiser, more successful team [& a better team next season].

Take no prisoners!

Go Boilers!!!

I was hoping Vandy would win last night so when we beat them it looks better. Now if we somehow lose to Vandy it won't look as well. Also, nice seeing Butler ranked again.

Nothing against Dayton, which does appear to be a very good team, but I think the loss of one of Vandy's better players did effect this outcome.

When I think back to the loss of Robbie, the team just did not have enough time to learn how to play without him and it showed it the losses that happened after. It could well be that Vandy has enough time to learn how to play with out him and improve. I am looking forward to seeing just what they can bring against PU in a few days.

Disappointing for us and them. These are the kinds of games that prepare teams for tough competition late in the season. I'm much more interested in preparation for the NCAA than a string of meaningless W's.
