Man, a team that had Fletch as a 6th scoring option could probably get to the Final Four playing Iowa defense!

I think Fletch will stay in the starting line-up, but I appreciate your larger point. Purdue needs at least one more consistent, athletic guard/wing who's comfortable handling the ball, can get to the rim, and can defend athletic guards--somebody like Lance Jones. I don't think that player is going to replace Fletch, but Purdue is missing a consistent guard/wing who can do the things Fletch can't.

Maybe that player is already on the roster (looking at you, Colvin), but I suspect Painter will at least look around this spring.

6th might have been stretching it...

But if you look at FF possible teams this year, Duke, Auburn, Florida.....where do you think Loyer would be in their pecking order? 4th or 5th for sure and in the case of Florida maybe 6th.

I know I'm not saying anything too profound here, but having Edey on the roster last year allowed us to get to a FF with not necessarily the balanced fire power those teams normally have. He was just so dominate that we didn't require a really strong 3rd, 4th and 5th option. If we could get portal help, that pushes Loyer to 4th or 5th best option, we have legit FF chance.

If Purdue brings in a Portal big playing time likely would be the reason. Also, if you’ve noticed he rarely played late in the season, that might be telling. We’ll find out soon enough though. Purdue likely has between 2-4 guys leave, that’s a prediction.

There is no doubt teams will come after Braden after this year and offer a large bag. We know Gonzaga did a couple of years ago. Can we compete $$ wise with Kentucky(or others), not sure, do we have to match $$ to keep him, I doubt it, but probably needs to be in ball park.

He said something to the effect that Purdue will be bringing in help this offseason and players will have to compete for their playing time. Is Matt getting out in front of this, publicly stating this, due to the fact, this could greatly influence Braden's thoughts this post season. He wants Braden to know he is going to do all he can to give him teammates that can compete at highest level.

I don’t think it’s completely out of the question to think teams are offering him and he may at least hear them out and/or consider it. Personally I feel like something is off with in the team and Braden not his normal self. Could just be mental and/or physical fatigue or a bit of a slump . He’s under immense pressure…

I highly doubt Smith leaves, however, if the money is much better elsewhere I can’t say I blame him, I doubt he’s a NBA player, anyone would look out for themselves in this situation. I think Purdue finds the funds to keep them, if they can’t it’s very telling about their future to compete and the highest levels.

I don’t know Braden personally. But I think he’s not that type of person and believe he will stick around for his last year cuz he values Painter and staff. As well as his teammates.

BUT again, I couldn’t be mad at him if he jumped for $5-8M. That’s a TON of money than a majority of people make in their lifetime.

I’d be selfishly disappointed 😂 but he deserves to get PAID. I hope Purdue can pay him what he’s worth.

I think 10 min avg is great for Rb next year and I’m sure he will get 15 some nights. He still needs to get fundamentals down and let the game slow down. I think he can be awesome for us. I saw his tape in HS. As a near 7 footer he took a rebound coast to coast and dunked it. Another time he hit a deep 3. He just now can’t rely on his size, so developing under coach B will make him really good.

Just my opinion tho and I totally get where you’re coming from!

I don't think the difference btw say 4-5 million and 6-7 million is so great that you abandon everything to take it for one year. If Smith were a sophomore ok maybe you do it for two years.

I gotta think Smith believes he has a shot at the NBA. He's got a better chance here than most anywhere else given how much he's featured here. I'm not sure you risk that for one year or a couple extra million.

But I guess we will see soon enough.

Berg was playing because we were getting killed by teams 7'ers. Michigan especially with 2. Burgess still needs to settle down and he'll quite obviously be a decent player. Give him a minute.

Well Braden has earned his value and is worth whatever he gets. He will be the front runner for NPOTY and BTPOTY and AA 1st team.

There are others that certainly haven’t but still get paid.

Loyer has too much chemistry with Braden for either of them to leave. Starting every single game since they came to Purdue and breaking records. Not even a dump truck full of money would tempt them to not finish what they started.

Waddell makes the most sense to me if his girlfriend is at Louisville. Burgess is getting passed up with DJ coming back and has never seemed to be on Painters A-List. Berg is a real possibility to leave because who doesn't need a 7'3" center but I would love for him to be DJ's backup.

Benter also is buried and I couldn't see him finding options elsewhere.

I just hope we keep Colvin (already set for life financially with huge familial ties), Heide (he has stepped up his game in a big way over last 5-8 games), Cox (starting as a frosh!), Harris (getting real minutes as a frosh with family ties), and DJ (will be a HUGE piece of our team next year).

I see Furst, Waddell, Burgess, Berg and/or Benter being the most likely to transfer but 2025-2026 team has legit Natty possibilities with the Final Four being in Indy and Smith, Loyer and TKR all being Seniors. But with the scholarship limit raising and more NIL $$ coming there is no reason for anyone to run away.

National Runner up, probable Sweet 16 (or better), then realistic possibility to be Champion? We have good things coming. I would want to be a part of that.

Burgess has been rumored to have shin splints right now. But it’ll be interesting to see if berg continues to get mins going forward or if it was situational.

Paint certainly went to the bench early and often today and I liked that he adjusted and started Heide over Furst in the Second half (Heide played 31 min!!).

If we can get 2-3 portal guys for next year and have everyone else back, we are instant NC contender.

And exactly what did that do for us? We need scorers not shooters. Dakota became a scorer and evolved his game. Once again, he doesn't rebound very good, he isn't a strong guard who can dribble/drive and he struggles with defense.

Being a good shooter doesn't necessarily help this team become better. Exactly, why we have 3 guys sitting out on the corners looking for Smith and TKR to create an opening. I want players who can create off the dribble/drive. Do you not notice these long scoring droughts?

What is a fact is he stunk today. His last 6 tournament games he's avg 9.6 points a game....6 games. People aren't taking Purdue seriously because of these issues and these are people that understand the game very well. Why do you keep hearing they need more out of Loyer??? FLETCHER LOYER IS NOT GETTING IT DONE ON THE FLOOR. I don’t know how many times I have to say this. If you are a shooter and you are not shooting you are worthless. He does not shoot. He does not rebound. He does not defend. He does not assist. Early in the season you could count on him to shoot. His stats as of late are padded by the early season scoring. Watch the games. He can’t get open. When he does get open he is pretty timid on the shot.

I could never imagine, in my basketball playing life, hanging out around the perimeter relying on others to create motion so I can shoot. It’s just a foreign concept to me. We drove. Everyone drove. Create fouls. Get them in trouble. Picks, back door cuts, movement. I think Fletcher is a good guy. I KNOW there are better athletes out there we can get. I’m watching them on the tv right now. I’ve been watching them all season
