I can understand the fan base. The fan base wants the best possible players to come to Purdue. Except maybe Catchings.

I can understand Painter. He only recruits the best possible players that will fit his system and address our needs.

My question is to put yourself in the player’s shoes. Why would the best players in the portal want to come to Purdue? What’s in it for them?

NIL? Purdue pays more than most, but most of that money has already been earmarked for smith tkr and Loyer. Surely if the player is one of the best in the portal, other schools would offer more.

Playing time? If he is a star elsewhere would he accept a demotion and become the third option at Purdue behind smith and tkr?

Position? All of our positions are basically already filled. Would a star player come to Purdue where painter promises nobody guaranteed playing time? Would a star portal player come to Purdue to share time with Jacobsen? Would the best 3 point shooting guard or point guard want to be a part of our crowded backcourt?

A championship? Is that really a motivator?

Exposure? Players at small colleges get just as much exposure to nba scouts as big colleges provide.

I can understand fans think one player can make a difference and fans want the best possible players player to come to Purdue , but what is going on in the heads of the players? I know Purdue offers a lot. But if you’re already a great player, what is it about Zpurdue that would make you want to come here?

For a man that claims to have understanding, you sure have lots of questions.

Some fair questions but every good team has some version of these questions. As to why? Everyone is different. I'm sure there are plenty of small school studs who would love to play on the big stage and have a chance at a title, whether or not they have NBA aspirations. And this whole "star player wouldn't come to be the 3rd option" I think is absolute nonsense. All year any time we were struggling to score it was "they need a 3rd guy to step up and score". There is 1000% room for a 15+ pt guy to come in and be scoring option 2 and let Braden facilitate and be option 3, and Fletch be option 4. Top teams don't worry about if they have room for more good players, or whose feelings are going to be hurt. Bring in dudes and let them compete.

Please don’t confuse him/them with sound logic.

I like to read differing opinions. this is a forum. If we all shared the same opinion there would be no need for a forum, would there?

Unlike some, I don’t have all the answers. I’m glad that some of you do and you don’t need to ask questions! Sorry to have bothered you!

All your answers are ones that we all have said previously 😂

Perhaps I was hoping for other people to offer their opinions
I’ll offer an opinion.

You talked about exposure but I think you underestimated how much success also plays into exposure. Purdue will be a marquee team next season and that success will lead to more exposure for players.

Let me take it a bit further Wole...It's taking these lesser players to be on a winning program to get noticed. Here's a question for you.

Is a kid at a 1A high school going to be noticed less, the same, or more than a kid at a 6A school, talent being equal? I know, because I witnessed with my sons and other players.

I await your answer.
