% wise he is currently 4th in the country on 150 attempts. You sure you are good with him to leave? Cuz I certainly am not.
It was on Facebook. I know nobody here reads facebookWhat report? Please provide the link/source to the report that a player told painter he is leaving.
That's been my prediction since the post was made that someone was leaving.Speaking of players potentially leaving…what happened to Burgess? I know he has struggled but we are giving minutes to Berg over him. Wondering if he would seek a new location.
Or it could be one of the starters seeking glory, fame, and the all mighty dollar. The current starters will be hard pressed to make the pros, including Smith or TKR, so they may want to pad the account before playing in Europe.I didn’t start this thread. Painter was asked a question about portal transfers. The question was never about Furst leaving. He knew Furst was leaving last year.
You use the portal when a current player announces their decision to leave during the year and you have to find a player to replace the departing player from a resource pool of players you haven’t previously recruited.
A case could be made for a number of players. But if you look at the history of Purdue players that have decided to enter the portal, it was never the 13th man. It was that player in the 6-10th spot That had hopes of getting more playing time that he knew he wouldn’t receive at Purdue. Look at Eastern, Haarms, Stephens, Morton, Newman and others. None of them were our 13th man. All of them were players seeking more playing time and a chance to shine.
Now take a look at our past and the players who transferred out and take a look at our present. What are the names of the players who are currently in those 6-10 slots? That’s your transfer candidate. And that’s the player you replace with someone from the portal.
Berg or Burgess? That's been my prediction since the post was made that someone was leaving.
as I said before, I could see Heide going to Minny if they get a coach he likes, would be an instant starter and closer to homeA strong case could be made for Benter. He red shirted this year because of the potential of zero playing time. The same players who were here this year will be here next year. And you will add West to that mix. Benter is still not going to see any playing time. In 2 years you will add Ertel. Playing time won’t get any better.
I’m not saying it’s Benter, but it wouldn’t shock me if he left via the portal.
A strong case could be made for Harris and Myles wanting to be a starter next year.
A strong case could be made for Heide wanting to play a position other than backup power forward.
A weaker case would involve Berg and Wadell. I don’t see either player wanting to leave.
I’m not sure what say about Burgess. I kind of expected more from him. At the beginning of the year Painter said Burgess needed more physical conditioning to be ready to play more minutes And he never elaborated and nobody leaked out the real issues .
I read a lot of different stuff on Purdue basketball. One of those articles/posts said a player actually went to Painter and informed him he planned to enter the portal and would be leaving. I don’t really know how much truth there was to that statement. No name was mentioned.
Based on Purdue’s past history, it was a believable statement that a player looked at the future and informed painter he was leaving. Based on the current culture of players leaving, it was believable. The original poster wasn’t. Trying to create drama or trying to get a scoop over the mainstream media. That poster also had no reason to be lying.
Look at how many of you who are also speculating.
The one thing that I know is true is that the story wasn’t leaked by Painter. And he is not going to acknowledge it or address it publicly until after Purdue’s season is officially over.
totally agree, Burgess could have really used a RS but w/ DJ injury wasn't happeningBerg or Burgess?
Would rather lose Berg because Burgess has upside, IMO
Both are playing their last year next. 2 years for Harris to be a starter.Harris has had some flashes but of all the players mentioned he seems to have the lowest ceiling and I don’t see Loyer or Braden leaving.
Cox starts for goodness sake.I see possible portal transfers as Heide, Berg, Colvin, Cox,and Harris. They all would like more playing time and don't see that happening here next year. The only one leaving is Furst so if they want to play more it won't be here. Hope they don't leave but we must face the reality of some of them going where they could play more.
Don’t know anything about him. I live those 2 guards from USC. Big, physical, can get their own shot.
Get 1-2 of those guys and then a killer on the boards and then you’ve got another FF contender.
I could easily see thatas I said before, I could see Heide going to Minny if they get a coach he likes, would be an instant starter and closer to home
Heide’s family now live in orange beach.as I said before, I could see Heide going to Minny if they get a coach he likes, would be an instant starter and closer to home
"I want players who can create off the dribble/drive."And exactly what did that do for us? We need scorers not shooters. Dakota became a scorer and evolved his game. Once again, he doesn't rebound very good, he isn't a strong guard who can dribble/drive and he struggles with defense.
Being a good shooter doesn't necessarily help this team become better. Exactly, why we have 3 guys sitting out on the corners looking for Smith and TKR to create an opening. I want players who can create off the dribble/drive. Do you not notice these long scoring droughts?
Can you elaborate on the first part?Colvin already gave up a shit load of money to come to a purdue, not to mention he already has a shit load of money.
He does not but I would be 100% on board thereif Poulakidas, kid from Yale, has any eligibility left, I would toss a bag at him.
Heides fam is in Alabama nowI could easily see that
But doesn't play that much.Cox starts for goodness sake.
So let’s play the game. Where would he go? What would be a better opportunity for him? He seems to value education. Purdue was the only P5 to offer him (just like smith). He started as a Frosh. But doesn't play that much.
I hope they all stay, but only time will tell.So let’s play the game. Where would he go? What would be a better opportunity for him? He seems to value education. Purdue was the only P5 to offer him (just like smith). He started as a Frosh.
Why would he leave? What’s the incentive? Just money? If that’s your reasoning he definitely does not seem like a kid who would go somewhere just for money. Especially when he can play for a coach like painter and his staff and also get mentored by the best PG in the country.
It was reported on here that he was offered $500-$600k to go to one of the new development leagues coming out of high school...maybe same one Catchings went to...can't remember. He does not but I would be 100% on board there
And he went to Yale instead?!?It was reported on here that he was offered $500-$600k to go to one of the new development leagues coming out of high school...maybe same one Catchings went to...can't remember.
Offensive Rating from FR to JRI mean that's not major improvement and you've listed basically one thing, 3p shooting.
Now, is his 3p shooting a weapon you want in your tool kit? Absolutely. Does it get lessened when he plays poor defense, passes up open shots for ill advised drives and disappears offensively for large chunks of games? Absolutely.

I’d have to look at others to compare. Was just providing different data beside shooting %These are small moves man and do you actually think he's playing well on defense right now?
No one is saying he doesn't provide benefits but I don't see how anyone can claim he's made any kind of big leap.I’d have to look at others to compare. Was just providing different data beside shooting %
Man, a team that had Fletch as a 6th scoring option could probably get to the Final Four playing Iowa defense! As others have said, Loyer would be perfect as a 4-5-6 option. He just doesn't have the overall game needed to be the 3rd option on a team without Edey. Get in the portal and get a couple studs that can be the 3rd and 4th options with Smith and TKR. Let Loyer be Loyer and hit open 3's when they are there.
