Smith 5 assists…

He still has a few bad turnovers some games when he gets in the air or tries to make a highlight pass but the kid has been just awesome this year. He will be ready to erase last year’s disappointment in the tournament.

Away from breaking the all time single season record. I have been paying attention too much to Zach’s records and forgot about this one. Holy cow did not think he’d be this close with 3 games left in the regular season! Stay Peaky, Smitty!
And the time clock is ticking for Smith to break Edey’s rebounding record. Smith wants that too.

If this is correct JBC is the only Purdue player to ever have a triple double - Smith will be the second player on that list before he graduates

Well he is almost 900 away so he needs to up those rookie rebound numbers next year from 5 to 13 a game and stay for 2 full years 😂

Some are saying that his assists are high because he has Edey. Maybe. But if his assist numbers drop at the start of the season next year, it will be less about Edey than about several new players not expecting the pass. Once the team jelly, everyone will see how good he is. That's when the fun really begins.

Of course the other way to look at it:

Edey thru 2 years had 409 rebounds.
Smith with as many as 10 games left in his 2nd year has 310 rebounds.

He just needs an uptick in his numbers (and a deep run) the rest of the year to be nipping at Edey's heels going into his junior year.

At one point only about 1/3 were to edey and the rest were to other players (a lot being to lance). I’m not a huge fan of this though (not saying you agree), but of course it’s due to edey. Just like Malone and Stockton or Nash and Stoudamire or Winston (all time leading assists guy in B1G) with miles bridges and Jaren Jackson.

But agree if his assists dip next year it’ll be early due to new players, but none of us will be surprised if he’s still at that level of assists or better!

Hopefully edey will widen that gap more before he leaves us 😂
