SI reporting Jack Owens to be HC at Miami (OH)

Congrats to him. Way to parlay team success into a HC gig.

Now a recruiter like ZO would be a nice replacement.

I imagine the other coaches shift a bit and Kenny Lowe shifts as well...unless these guys like their spots.

I've always thought Kenneth Lowe would be great recruiter as an assistant. Has the personality and is Purdue guy. Hope he gets a shot.

I don't know Kenny, but remember when he played with Austin Parkinson in AAU and Purdue was trying hard to get Carron (sp?) Butler that went to Huggie Bear. Bruce said he was a great guy and player. Is he a saleman? There would be some that would be against him since he has Purdue ties thinking someone unfamiliar with Purdue might be better to work with those familiar with Purdue...think about that :)

Based on some comments by Brian in recent chats, Lowe could likely follow Owens wherever he might go.

Didn't Caron Butler ended up playing for Calhoun and UCONN, TJ? I remember. though, at one time Purdue was a leader for him. Huggie was still at Cincinnati, then.

Carson Cunningham and Ryne Smith have Purdue ties.
Any good candidates that worked under Groce or anyone else recently fired?
Pat Knight is friends with CMP but I don't see it happening. It might help in-state recruiting.

Would Tom Crean be interested in interning under Matt Painter until he gets another HC opportunity? He is a good offensive mind and a recruiter. Forget his experience as a HC. It seems a lot of former HCs are going the route of interning/shadowing at bigger programs (Jeff Capel at Duke, almost everyone at Alabama).

I laughed while sitting on my flight when I read this.

Once I contained myself, this would be interesting. Despite him sucking as an Xs and Os guy he can recruit.

I just can't see this happening. I think they would drive each other nuts. I could see Painter taking him out behind the dumpsters and beating the every loving shit out of him by mid-season.

I think his recruiting has even declined since kids care less about who Dwayne Wade is than they did 10 years ago.

The original 06 boiler post and responses are just hilarious. :)

Butler played for Jim Calhoun at Connecticut.

you are correct again...brain fart...Caron did go to uconn..Da Sean Butler was at WV

Just trying to keep the conversation lively. Ok....yeah....I remember that now; tough to see that injury again ......the harsh realities of the game.
I appreciate it. I tell all the ladies at work I need a lot of women to take care of me...and I leave it at that :)

This is someone's idea of a really really sick joke, right???

Another good coach leaving the program.............wish him luck!!! Selfishly, of course, I hope CMP finds a good replacement. I think the value of these coaches is underestimated in the role that they play with the HC, the team, and the recruits...............bittersweet goodbye to Coach Owens!! Good luck!!

The Butler did it in the library with a candlestick.

Having a good associate coach which can mentor to the players and be a great seller of the program is a big thing. I really hope that Painter can find the right guy for this position. Would love to find the next great recruiter that can bring in quality players.
