Purdue vs. Ole Miss: MASTER DISCUSSION THREAD

Burgess has been only getting a minute or so a game just to get him in this game was too close.

I think Harris is better against a press than cox just his size and ability to dribble through it.

I thought Harris did a nice job handling the press against North Carolina State. Both he and Cox and even Colvin and Heide will help out a lot......there will be some mistakes, but for the first time in a while I think it won't be heart-in-your-throat for 10 straight minutes watching Purdue collapse against the press.

I'll have to watch again, but how did Purdue outrebound them by 11 and get 13 fewer shot attempts?
Got fouled a lot especially TKR who missed a front end. We probably got to the charity stripe 7 more times than them. Also had 5 more turnovers. And a couple more blocks that I think both went out of bounds.

I get the assist on that one

Here's a stat you don't see everyday:

Mississippi took 13 more shots than Purdue (61/48) despite Purdue finishing +6 on rebounds+turnovers forced (Purdue: 37 rebounds, 7 forced turnovers; Ole Miss: 26 rebounds, 12 forced turnovers). And, Ole Miss committed 8 more fouls (20/12).

Purdue was at the line more I believe contributing to 13 less shots

There were times I would have went with Cox, but understand the strength, size and D for Giccari and why Matt played him so much more than Cox. I think Cox would have hit open shots

That's another good point TJ, especially against a Physical Beard team. Right now, Cox is the better shooter.

Penn State will be an interesting challenge next TH.

What a fun game. Lucky, but a roller coaster of highs and lows. Escaped with a W today, but it could have gone the other way.

Colvin gets the MVP and packed the highlight reel with a few of those plays. That last bucket was pure luck though, right place right time. I'll take it.
I pointed out to my wife where he started his run to the hoop - damned near out of bounds on the wing ... he was on a mission!!!1

It's almost like you are cheering against us??

Ole Miss very good team shooting out of their mind due to over helping....and now on fire
There were times Purdue sagged so much to protect the lane it shifted a bit towards a zone look… more sag than against most teams

I was surprised to see so little of Cox, he did fine vs the other SEC team we beat
That was at home and this was a different team. Much more physical. We haven’t seen it much in games but I did notice in scrimmages he struggled against aggressive, physical defenders.

Final 3 possessions by Smith were brutal as well. 2 timeouts and that was the plays?

Colvin saved the coaching staff.
I told Kim to watch Ole Miss try to prevent Braden from getting the ball or a quick double because they didn’t want the ball in his hands when they doubled him at half court.

As far as the last shot…I have no problem with it. I told Kim to watch for Myles or Cam because they were going to sell out on Braden, Fletcher and Trey. When they didn’t double Braden on the last possession I like him taking the shot to win it since it was tied and sometimes refs swallow the whistle when tied as they convince themselves the are letting the players decide…and there is no risk of an errant pass and catch if he takes it with a 50% chance of winning and 50% go into overtime where Purdue had a slight edge in momentum, but maybe more fatigue as a team. When Braden let it fly two players went to keep Trey away from the board and not sure in real time and camera shot if one of those was Myles man. I don’t think Beard wanted to double Braden again for fear Matt may have addressed that in the huddle

Braden was too out of control down the stretch. Seriously, what happened to his decision making.
Loyer: just shoot the damn ball! That backwards pass was so stupid.
And why didn't we/Cam/CMP guard the kid on the inbounds pass at the end? At least be near him to be a tad more uncomfortable on final shot, vs WIDE OPEN....
Yes , I told Kim he has to catch it curling to the right for his shot on the run. I would have put in Caleb to defend the trigger man and told the other players to overplay the curl to their right hand and let them get it going to the left more, but they had to catch it on the run and shoot…not enough time for more than a very quick dribble if that was even available…just take their body MO going to the left so they are going against their body on the shot

Big shout out to player of the game.....TKR with a huge double - double.

25 pts & monster 13R & 3 A
Fantastic All American numbers again tonight
This is why IMO you don’t press and run up and down the court. You don’t want to take Trey out of the game when other coaches want that. Push the ball, probe and apply offensive pressure and if nothing there…Trey needs to see the ball whether he scores or not…he needs to have the ball in his hands most possessions

Very impressive, admit I dint think it was going to happen down 7. They got grit

Reduce turnovers, intense D, rebound aggression and hit FT and tight ones will continue to go their way; well of course 👍

Nice seeing TKR rust the system and time not being the man abd now he is!

They did swallow the whistle. One of the two guys boxing out TKR was facing him and pushed him in the chest. Obvious and blatant foul giving Ole Miss an advantage. That would have left TKR having to make a foul shotto win the game...

everyone knew they would chuck 3s except our defense. They were getting boatraced and it got them back to the lead. They didn't really have many advantages unless we turned it over or they hit 3s.
I think paint was prob ok with them shooting the 3s and playing the analytics where more than likely they don’t hit as many as they did. However, they did, so hats off to them for hitting them.
