Now after several years of Brohm's recruiting, Purdue has had several 4 star recruits according to 247. Here is a list of the 4 stars from 2018, 2019 and 2020.

2018
R. Moore
2019
Karlaftis
D Bell
M Wright
Grant
2020
D. Carr Miss
Alaimo
T Murphy Miss
Yaseen
Hartwig

That's 10 guys. 2 are clear misses. The jury on Alaimo is still out. The rest of the guys are (were) either our best players or key contributors.

One was for sure a miss. The other left but is tbd if any good.

That’s a pretty good hit rate.

Hudgins was a rivals 4* and is a tbd.

Faucheaux was a miss but Diaco may have prevented him from being good at Purdue. He talked him out of moving to OL.

ARY is a stud, if he can stay healthy.

Grant is still TBD in my opinion. He has been great when he has played, but he has been hurt most of his Purdue career.

I thought Rice was a four star too. Same thing with him as Grant. Has not been able to stay healthy.

I have a question on Bilodeau. Maybe he was not a composite 4 star, but he played with Bell and Karlaftis in the HS All American game. What has happened to him? Has he been hurt, overrated or what?

Extremely slow feet and lacks lower body strength.

The key is to get the four stars that big programs are fighting over because they are four stars off the field (character, weight room).

David bell might as well be a nine star compared to Jason kacinko.. or a Faucheux who was rated four star as an offensive lineman.

While you are right, Grant missed a lot of 2020, he has shored up the back end of our defense against the run and has been huge this year.

I don’t think the TBD applies anymore

Are you including transfers? I thought one or two of our transfers were former 4* guys.

Rankings are a measure of how the players measured up when they are 17/18 years old. Can it be slightly different when he’s 20, sure. Usually good indicators though because guys usually don’t fall off that much.

Every play where someone comes flying out of nowhere to make a tackle is Grant, the jury is not out. He makes plays, his only knock is injury history which has nothing to do with his recruiting rankings.

Anyone who still has questions about grant should watch tanner Morgan try to get away this time.. and Martinez.

McCray got popped by grant quite a few times. A couple of them had Herron making noises

if Morgan wants to do what he did the last couple years he’s gonna get tracked down and hit hard by Marvin. Unlike last year Morgan is actually slower than Grant

Guy looks like a play maker to me. He flies around and hits. One of our best athletes. This year they’ve found a position to make him a factor.

IMO Grant is as good of a run stopper as we have had at safety in a while and while I haven't been at any of the games to assess his pass coverage this year I don't remember too many deep balls being thrown/completed over the middle of the field.

In Grant we have a safety that can physically dominate most opposing backs and receivers. I'm not sure you can say that about our other safeties now or in recent history.

Best strong safety since pollard and will probably be better than him long term. McCray might have had 250 if he was replaced by a less physical presence

Grant has been solid this year in a system that fits his skill set.

Morgan got rocked a couple of times yesterday. He looked gimpy at the end of the game and it seemed like he lost some zip on his throws. The one play, which ended up being a pick, I was impressed that he got up and walked off the field under his own power. It was a hellacious, but clean, shot.

Minnesota fans say they have no backup

With that being said, why was he recruited and offered a scholarship? Hard to understand the reason behind this.

Strength is something they assume will change once in S&C program but doesn’t always happen. Slow feet, sometimes can be difficult to diagnose on film. Coaches miss on players and players sometimes don’t put in the work or just don’t develop. That 2019 class looks good as a whole.
