Playing Tennessee!!!!

We were hoping for a much higher-profile opponent ourselves. Maybe another program that’s won 75 percent of its games against Nick Saban.

We ran him out of the Big Ten with three straight losses. Ever heard of him?

We do recall a team apparently sponsored by Creamsicles. We licked them in the Astrodome. Purdue took a 21-0 lead, took a long nap, then rallied behind Mark Herrmann to win 27-22. Living in the past? I was living on the field for that one.

As for national profile, Purdue quarterbacks in the National Football League have more passing yards, more touchdown passes and more wins than any other school in NFL history. Len Dawson, Bob Griese, Mike Phipps, Gary Danielson, Mark Herrmann, Jim Everett, Scott Campbell, Kyle Orton, Drew Brees, for example. Three won Super Bowls, a feat matched only by Alabama.

We have heard that Tennessee, just after stealing the Oilers from Houston, once imported a Manning, too. Cooper, I believe.

If you’re good sometime, maybe our Gary Danielson will cover one of your games.
Yikes! That's kind of embarrassing, but if that makes you feel better.

Auburn was 3-5 in the SEC that year. Just sayin'
True, but correct me if I’m wrong but Auburn was a pre season top ten team loaded with talent and after an early season loss they kind of mailed it in for a while which says something about them. I thought back then that they wouldn’t get up for our game but clearly they did

No I think it’s pretty good. I just know every offense we have faced other than Ohio state (because they got the ball out immediately) has had to double and triple karlaftis .. often keeping backs and tight ends home to keep him from wreaking havoc if you have a stroud to Wilson or smith-njigba connection I’d be worried … if you don’t you’ll probably do okay … 35-42ish
Does he play in the bowl? Bell?

It’s a joke you might not get right away. Indiana started out the season ranked #17, lost their first game of the season 34-6 to Iowa and then managed to go 2-10 for the season. To make matters worse IU actually took the field early this season and one of their players had Indiana spelled “Indinia” on the front of his jersey. It’s become a running joke on our boards ever since……..
Haha! Imagine being an Indiana fan!

I feel like this sounded better in your head.

Here’s a quick glance at Purdue v Tennessee’s history. http://www.winsipedia.com/purdue/vs/tennessee

And thank God you don’t have to play Saban’s Crimson Tide every year…

Yeah … we are lucky to have a team of kids who aren’t here for themselves so there’s a high likelihood he does…
Now, that’s a low blow to our guy who has been through hell for this program. Endured the end of Butch Jones and then the stupid, Gump- Bammer Jeremy Pruitt debacle and is now wanting to make sure his injury is completely healed prior to Senior Bowl, Pro day, Combine, etc. Cannot hold that against him at all.

I Couldn’t give half a **** how you take Anything I say … nobody invited your stupid ass here to begin with

I just came here to read and get a feel how Purdue fans view this game. I'm really surprised at how cocky some of you Boiler fans are. Tennessee had one of the most difficult schedules in the country. The losses were to:

Bama- #1 seed in Playoff
UGA - #3 seed in Playoff
Ole Miss - Top 10 and NY6 Bowl team
Pitt - ACC champ and NY6 Bowl team
Florida - Before they imploded... at the time, they were a top 10 team coming off a 2 point loss to Bama

Tennessee coulda woulda shoulda beat Pitt and Ole Miss....we were the recipient of horrendous officiating in both of those games. We scored more points on UGA than any team except Bama. We were in a competitive game late against Bama.

All that to say, don't underestimate the Vols. It's easy to look at the defensive stats and the 7-5 record and dismiss them, but this is a darn good team that is on an upward trajectory.

I honestly don't know much about Purdue, so I'm not going to make any proclamations about them. Should be an interesting game later this month.

We don’t know if Bell will play. I’d advise him not to if he asked me, which he won’t.

To all the UT fans, BC is the self-appointed head of Public Relations for the forum.

It's not a paid position, mind you, nor one that anyone voted for (or against), just a mantle assumed by BC...

Ok to be fair I could show more restraint

Thanks for reeling me in when I need it along with @pboiler18 and well half the board lol.

On behalf of all those cocky (arrogant?) Purdue fans, I offer my apologies.

We'll try to be better, just for you.

Sorry to have not met with your approval.

We’re being cocky? I’m sure it has nothing to do with some of your fans coming over here and calling us a nobody program lol. Most Purdue fans aren’t thrilled about going back to the same bowl we went to 3 years ago which is basically a home game for you guys. We feel we got the shaft.

I haven't said anything bad about Purdue. I honestly don't know much about them. A quick glance at the schedule and results actually surprised me. Purdue had a really good season. Should be a fun game.

You can parse your words if you choose, but that's not a good way to start.

Wasn’t talking about you in particular but to me, some of the Vols fans in this thread have made it seem like playing Purdue is beneath them. Obviously Purdue doesn’t compare to UT historically and never will. But we have a damn good following and we’ll show up well in Nashville. We got our doors blown off there 3 years ago and a lot of us still have bad memories from that game. If our two best players (Bell and Karlaftis) don’t play, it could get ugly.

I don't like Tennessee, and I don't like Purdue. Both fan bases are difficult to understand. If there were ever a game I could dream would end in a tie, this would be that game. Your fan bases deserve one another. Just remember, if UT is leading by 1,050 points with a minute left and Purdue makes a field goal, they will, without doubt, give a shout out to IU on the kick-off. All that being said, I frigging despise Rocky Top. BTFU.

I get where you're coming from. Personally, I'm happy to be in a bowl game. Considering where we were a year ago, I wouldn't have predicted it. Tennessee fans are definitely guilty of living in the past. Frankly, that's all we have had for over a decade. Tennessee is historically a top 10 program. That is evident if you look at all time wins, bowl appearances, etc....but the TN program has been irrelevant for too long. Most of us have hope that we finally have a coach who can get us back to respectability. I take nothing for granted and I definitely respect Purdue and look forward to attending the game.

Right back at you!

I’m a Tennessee fan and stoked we are playing in Nashville and playing you guys. Should be a good game.
Avoid the rush and hate kensucky, vandie and bama early
Yes, as I said Vol fans travel well. I was at the Indiana game when my son wanted to leave before it was over. We didn’t!

I expect Vol nation will show up as they did in Jacksonville. They made Jacksonville look like a home game because of their support.

I don’t think Nashville offers a “home game” to Tennessee. The Vol fans show up everywhere.
