I love how this guy brings up Wisconsin multiple times. And it’s a great point .. if Tennessee could do what Wisconsin can do, O’Connell would struggle.

Tennessee is 85th in the nation in total defense. Wisconsin is 1st. “But SEC!” Lol

You can go back and look at my post. I am not here in anger or hate and continue to tell you guys that I root for you guys when IU is not playing you. I am telling you from an inside source from the football team (student), that GK will not be playing in the bowl game. Take it for what you want. I am just giving you a heads up.

If he doesn’t that’s fine.. my all time favorite boiler. But we will react when that time comes

Well it will be that much more embarrassing when we beat your ass then. You sound like IU basketball fans. Hanging on to championships from ages ago.
People on here are saying UT has been down for a decade...it has actually been more like 2 decades. With that being said, UT has had some success against Big-10 opponents in Bowl games recently:

Jan 2020 - Gator Bowl - Won 23-22 over Indiana
Dec 2016 - Music City Bowl - Won 38-24 over Nebraska
Jan 2016 - Outback Bowl - Won 45-6 over Northwestern
Jan 2015 - Tax Slayer Bowl - Won 45-28 over Iowa

On the flip side...Purdue's last win over an SEC team in a bowl game was.... over Tennessee 27-22 in the Bluebonnet bowl in 1979. Since that game, Purdue's bowl record is 7-9 and Tennessee's is 24-12.
Well, you guys had an unfair advantage - Jeremy Pruitt.

As for the Music City Bowl...Tennessee is 1-1 there.
Lost to North Carolina by 3 in overtime in 2010 and beat Nebraska by 14 in 2016.

Purdue is 0-1 in the MCB with their 49 point loss to Auburn in 2018.

In the MCB, overall, the Big-10 is 3-4 and the SEC is 9-12 (both .429 winning %). Head to head, the Big-10 and SEC are tied 3-3. Big-10 h-2-h winners were Minnesota (x2) and Northwestern; SEC h-2-h winners were Auburn (x2) and Tennessee.

Actually there are several posts here implying Purdue is superior to Tennessee. And in terms of other bowl games being irrelevant....on the surface, that may be true. However, I believe past Big 10 vs SEC games can absolutely be relevant. All those previous 4 games that TN won against Big 10 opponents, the Big 10 team had a better record. And believe it or not, their fan bases sounded eerily similar to how you guys sound in this thread. Again, I'm not bashing Purdue. You guys gave had a great season.
So, none you can quote. A fan's confidence in his/her team doesn't count. Your skin is too thin.

No, the irrelevance of other bowl games it's not just true "on the surface", it's just true.

I saw somewhere else that UT opened as -1. That's a pretty d@mn good reason for Purdue fans to have confidence in their team.

Hey, now...the Pintos with the German 2L were vastly underrated. I mean, those things were fire.
Hey on another topic .. I’m a food traveler. I will eventually hit every state and try most of the places worth trying a la Memphis bbq, hot chicken in Nashville .. what food items or restaurants in the Knoxville area are institutions..

I do realize I’m setting myself up for being sent to the blue oyster lol

While I'm ok with Hot Chicken...I always choose Jacks BBQ in Nashville before I go anywhere. It has been my go-to for decades.

As for Knoxville:

My first choice would be J.C. Holdway - the chef was awarded "Best Chef Southeast" by the James Beard Foundation. It is amazing food. Nothing special about the space it is in downtown.

Second...Stock and Barrel on Market Square (they actually have one of these in Nashville as well) - Just a quick walk over from the fist spot...this restaurant is a self-proclaimed "whiskey restaurant, featuring thoughtfully sourced burgers and an extensive selection of bourbons". Their meat is hormone free, locally sourced, and their house made fries are fried in duck fat.

Breakfast would be Olibea - amazing breakfast selection...but only open Wednesday through Sunday. Everything is regionally sourced, and amazing.

Knox Mason is another excellent location for a mixture of traditional southern food with contemporary twists.

Now...not in Knoxville but nearby Maryville (where the Knoxville Airport is located). The Walnut Kitchen - the chef came from the renowned Blackberry Farm...which I would also recommend, but I don't know anyone who would be willing to pay what it costs to eat at Blackberry Farm.

There...I truncated my list to a handful of places, which is hard with so many amazing restaurants in the area. Hopefully, you will get a chance to come to the area and check them out.

EDIT to add...my wife has a Masters in Food Science and worked as a food researcher for about 20 years. So, being married to a foodie, we always have a knack for sniffing out some of the most unique places to eat.

The line opened Purdue -2.5 last night and has flipped completely to Tennessee -2.5. Have to assume it's based on assumptions that Bell and Karlaftis won't play after CJB said they would be going into the draft. Still that's a huge jump.

With Bell out it's going to be time for someone else to step up and we have seen that happen already this season. George is a different gap to fill though so I can see the swing.

To vol fans asking about Oconnell and his mobility. He is not mobil. What he is.. is the 3rd highest rated QB in college football this year. For perspective.. hooker is 17th (still very good). If David bell doesn’t play.. we will still move the bell.: because Oconnell in my opinion may be our best QB since brees

I'm a retired US Army officer with a PhD in Food Science. Years ago I worked a couple of military ration research projects with Dr. Lana Zivanovic at the Tennessee Food Science Dept. Does your wife know her?

Honestly, I can’t hate Tennessee because I’m a huge Colts fan and will always remember what Peyton did here for us. And I do have a soft spot for Rocky Top as I think it’s a great fight song. Now let me go throw up haha.
This. Y'all I got banned for a night?! I was playing nice. Excited about the game!

From the tape I've watched, he's very accurate. I do feel his arm strength is a liability. Some of his screen passes look ripe for the picking. Time will tell. Again, he did appear scary accurate. Our beloved Peyton Manning was never known for having the strongest arm so it's clearly not a requirement.

I love this question. Not all will agree with me on here but if you are looking for James Beard award winning type food, JC Holdway is a must. God my mouth is watering just thinking about it. We discovered it this year while in town for a home game (live in Nashville) and we will literally make the 3 hour drive just for JCH. We'll make up some stuff to do on campus to justify the trip haha.

There are so many "institutions" but I only lived there for 3 years and was a trailing spouse so I am not the best source. JC Holdway and then finish the evening with cocktails at the Library which is a red light speakeasy down and alley with a classic literature influence.

The Chef at JCH is a former head chef at Blackberry Farm which is 25 minutes from downtown Knoxville. Look that up. Celtic monks believed and wrote about "thin spaces" which were places in the world where they sensed the presence of God more easily than anywhere else. They were places where heaven meets earth. Blackberry Farm is such a place.

Just read this. First of all, read my post. We are the same. Stock and Barrel is way better in Knoxville. I still go to the Nashville location because I want to support them but it's not the same. Blackberry Farm is my favorite place on earth. The wine and whiskey collection are unreal. Top 5 in the country for both no doubt. The wine cellar is the 2nd largest in the US but you probably know that haha. The Walnut Kitchen just went to the top of my list. I hadn't heard of it.

If he decides not to so be it. I’m not gonna begrudge him. But he’s only projected as the 7th receiver by kiper. Probably second round at this point. Now I know the combine affects that the most. However, bell isn’t going to do great at the combine. He’s more similar to rice. 4.5 guy whose strength is being able to manipulate defenders with precise route running and catching everything.. then he’s a great yac guy. Like rice, you’ll marvel at how he’s able to make more athletic defenders look like bad defenders.

so in this unique case, I think going out there against a SEC team and wrecking shop could push him into the first round. It only takes one team to see that and have considerably heightened interest.

karlaftis is more the type of guy you speak of.. and I think he’ll play because he’s kind of a weird dude in a great way. My read on him is that he just loves the battle.. kind of a rocky balboa type of guy.

so long as bell plays you have problems. It takes an entire team to corral him.. that team must have outstanding athletes AND play very smart a la Notre dame and Wisconsin. If you lack either, I.e. 103rd in the nation in pass yards allowed, you have problems … and honestly with the way you all have come here, I think the reaction is going to be the most fun all year.
One down, one to go.

OT, but the connection to two states is closer than you might think. Geographically Indiana is much closer to Tennessee than SEC states like Florida and Texas. Also, after World WarII, many returning soldiers from the South emigrated to cities like South Bend and Mishawaka for jobs in factories, since there were few good paying jobs in the South. My dad was one of those.

Good luck to the Boilermaker fans who come to Nashville. Hope you have a great time, win or lose.

Neither is Tennessee.
Dudes hurt cause he’s over here giddy that we might not have our full squad. I wouldn’t get excited if suddenly Hendon hooker didn’t play .. I’d be like “I mean yeah, we beat Tennessee, but that was the time Hendon hooker had a nice season and the vols didn’t have him”

I wouldn't mention that 2020 win over Indinia. The B1G doesn't even count them as members.

The Walnut Kitchen is very close to the Foothills Milling Company...which used to be an excellent restaurant, until they sold out about 2 years ago. Prior to that, it would have been in my top 5 as well.
