Playing Tennessee!!!!

You Boilermaker fans are a lot of fun. Was out in San Fran in 2017 with my family for New Years when you guys were playing in a bowl game out there…A bunch of Boilermaker fans, really sauced, on a Purdue U train/trolly running on a line around downtown San Fran. It was very cool. Welcome to Tennessee, in advance.

I would say that most Tennessee fans are a bit disappointed.
They were hoping for a higher profile opponent than Purdue.
Maybe someone like Penn St or Clemson or even UNC.
An opponent who didn’t already beat #2 Iowa at Iowa and #3 Michigan State? PSU is 7-5 this year, we’re 8-4. PSU and UNC did not have good seasons - UNC did beat Wake Forest, I guess. PSU beat Wisconsin in the first game of the season and then crapped the bed most of the rest of it.

Tennessee’s best win is 45-42 over Kentucky at Kentucky. I’m not enamored with having to play Tennessee in a virtual home game for them. I do think it should be a good game. Tennessee can score but its defense is pretty suspect.

That's a fair assessment. UT has some holes defensively and their best DB is sitting the bowl game out to focus on the NFL combine.

Totally understand.
In fact, Purdue might beat Tennessee. Would not be surprised if they are favored.
For the TN fans, its just a matter of the national perception that Purdue is a nothing program.
Like the poor forgotten stepchild that no one cares about.

Vol fans wanted to go to Florida for a bowl and feel disappointed over the music City Bowl. Yes, it’s in Tennessee, but that is no guarantee that it is basically a home game for UT.

At the last bowl game in Florida against Indiana the Vols dominated the stadium. They travel well, but I’ll be interested to see what the excitement level is for playing Purdue in the Music City.
It will be packed with Vol fans. Lots of fans in that area. Overall fans are very excited.

We can at least spell Indiana, Sir.
It’s a joke you might not get right away. Indiana started out the season ranked #17, lost their first game of the season 34-6 to Iowa and then managed to go 2-10 for the season. To make matters worse IU actually took the field early this season and one of their players had Indiana spelled “Indinia” on the front of his jersey. It’s become a running joke on our boards ever since……..

I understand the joke and I also understand a great time to return an insult.

They were super tired by the time the UGAs/UK/Bama games rolled around. A month off and they’ll be healthier and well rested.

What has Tennessee done this season or in the last 5 seasons for that matter that warrants the Vols playing a top-tier school like Clemson this year? The Vols are rarely contenders in the SEC anymore. I don’t see Peyton Manning or Tee Martin suiting up for you or Phil Fulmer on the sidelines. You are living in the past, thinking that your program is really something right now, while much of the SEC laughs at you. That game where UT fans threw stuff out of the stands at Ole Miss and Lane Kiffin was appalling.

We ended up hanging out with the Indiana crowd at a Jacksonville bar pre game, We had a blast with them. Purdue has a bad taste for me because of our last b-ball game in NCAA tourney.. Expensive in Nashville on Dec 30 so be prepared.

Just like the inside Indiana joke you guys have you have NO idea what was behind the Kiffin stuff. Wasn’t our best hour but he was provoking it and loving it..

That could be. Don’t get me wrong - I think Kiffin is a jack@$$ and it wouldn’t surprise me if he tried to instigate the crowd. He did not do well at Tennessee and I realize there is no love lost there……

Elite offense against an elite defense. It’d make for a good game. As for the throwing stuff, it’s happened 20 times this season in FBS football that I can find. UT fans are the only ones dragged for it tho. Heupels a pretty solid coach. Don’t need Fulmer or Manning right now. We will still score points in bunches.

Purdue fans. Tell us about your squad. What are your strengths and weaknesses? Who are your key players?
Good athletic defense all around headlined by the best defensive end in America George karlaftis .. he demands doubles and triples

offense passes off every charts with the best receiver in America David bell and another very athletic receiver Milton Wright. The QB is playing arguably the best since brees. Offensive line has improved all year but is the weakness of the team. Watch the Wisconsin Purdue game .. if your front four can rush the passer and stuff the run we may stutter. Offensive line worse at moving defenders in the run game than pass blocking

We averaged about 35 ppg in the last 5 games and have a good passing game ourselves, averaging about 340 ypg. I do think our defense is better than Tennessee’s. Tennessee has a very strong offense and has had success throwing and running the ball.

Our DC, Brad Lambert, coached the nation’s leading scoring defense at Marshall last season, giving up 13 ppg. This season we’re yielding 20.5 ppg. Our defense is the best it’s been since 2017. Much more aggressive and disciplined.

It is suspect against a running quarterback. That my friend you don't have. The pace of our offense running plays is beyond crazy. Good luck!

Yup, TN has been down for a decade.
And because of that, TN is now down to 9th ALL TIME, in wins (not incl the ivy league teams).
Is Purdue still ranked around 80th? right there with Coe, Linfield and Albion?
TN hasn't won the National Championship in 20 years.
Its also been a while since Purdue won the National Championship. Oh wait, they have never won, have they?
But, hey, at least you shared in a Big Ten Championship a couple times in the past 50 years.

Well, UT has beaten the BTin in the last 4 bowl games against Iowa, Northwestern, Nebraska, and Indiana. This will be the first bowl appearance under Heupel, so, that may not mean a thing. I do believe UT after some rest will be high energy and ready to play. If Hendon Hooker is dialed in they will put up some points in a hurry.

And don’t be surprised if we beat you in this bowl game. The last time Purdue played Tennessee in football it was Purdue 27, Tennessee 22 in the Blue Bonnet Bowl.

I don’t doubt that the Vols can score. Can they stop us? Our defense is better than Tennessee’s too, especially against the pass.

I think after playing Ohio states pass attack our defense will do just fine against even the best offenses. Karlaftis is a pro still playing in college

Don't really have an opinion on UT sports, haven't seen them play anything since the Elite 8 game quite honestly.

I wouldn't be so sure of that. We score fast and we score early. With a new staff and 2 transfer QBs, they picked the wrong guy at first. Mesmerized by his athletic ability. He started against Pitt. We jumped out to an early 10-0 lead but then the wrong QB proceeded to miss 4 wide open receivers streaking down the field. He was injured and it was at that point we discovered our QB1. Hooker came in and almost won us the game. We would have won had he started.

Our defense is better than you think. Don't get too excited. We had 94 tackles for loss which ranked us 2nd in the SEC and 7th Nationally.

You know our fans will show up to the game and it will be 70% Vol fans. Come on … stop trying to be cool on this board

You guys give up 27.5 ppg (12th in SEC) and 405 ypg (11th in SEC). Tennessee is 13th in the SEC in passing defense.

I like our chances. It’s not that I don’t think you’ll score. I think it’s that you’re up against one of the best passing duos in the nation .. quick hitting.

You’re 103rd in the nation in passing yards allowed against the 8th ranked passing offense in the nation

Well it will be that much more embarrassing when we beat your ass then. You sound like IU basketball fans. Hanging on to championships from ages ago.

I'm not wanting to argue. Just realizing that the SEC is full of mobile QBs with stout run attack. When you have neither, it becomes a lot easier to scheme up. You should be excited. You'll get to see how good your passing attack actually is.
