Back home and thawing out from the double OT 6A game between Westfield and Crown Point.

CP led 17-0 early 3rd qtr with good running game and shutting down Shamrocks run game cold.

After that, a Westfield FG, followed by a blocked punt setting up a short field made it 17-10. Bulldogs then went up 24-10 early 4th quarter, but Rocks never gave up. Started hitting on multiple mid to long passes and on the game tying drive, CP gave them a short field by going for a 4th/4 just over midfield and getting stopped. With 17 seconds in regulation Westfield scored to force OT.

The teams traded TDs in OT #1.
CP scored a TD in #2 to make it 38-31. Kept Westfield out of the end zone for the win, sending CP to its first ever state football championship game.

The party may be over next week having to face Ben Davis, but nonetheless a great game tonight by both squads.

Was that regional or semi-state?

Buzeas game decisions just about did them in. CP had the game and should have won easily.

Skydog, agree totally. He does seem to have a little too much confidence in his offense at times. Those 4th/4’s he keeps going for between the 40’s almost cost CP the game. Gave Westfield a short field with just under 4 minutes left to tie it with 17 seconds left. I get wanting to put the game away with the O and his D had given up 17 in the 2nd half, but he’s got a damn good D. making a team go 80-85 yards seems the better decision.

Great Coach though, turned that whole program around like he’s done others. He’s aggressive, doubt that ever changes.

And he shifted the line on the punt and it gets blocked. Kick the field goal at the start of the third quarter and they go up 20-0. Westfield would have gone away with that being said. Buzea is a very good coach teaching the players and coaches a mostly disciplined team. His in game decisions are not so much. He hasn’t learned because, I remember him doing the same stupid things at Portage early in his career.

FYI, Ryan Isaac and Albert Evans are assistant coaches for CPHS. I hear both do well working with the kids.
