Ok, now that it's done, who's hearing what about a hire?

They just set a record two weeks ago for most losses in Div 1 college football history.

They will be adding to that record in about 3 weeks.
Maybe- though getting to play at UGA, Tenn, PSU, or ND on national tv as one of the top ten teams in America in the playoffs sure feels amazing. What makes IU's success so incredibly delicious is the contrast between what has been and what is happening. And it's for damn sure Cig and the IU players don't think they're going to lose their next game. My unsolicited advice for you vis-à-vis Indiana and their playoff game? Root against them all you want, but take IU and the points.

Rooting against IU should be mandatory for a Purdue fan and should 100% be what you should do. But to post that somehow IU's success isn't real or can be downplayed after this season and last Saturday? Those are some tricky waters to navigate.

Ya know, over the last 10 seasons, IU has won more games, been to more bowls and has (will) finish the season ranked more times (2) then Purdue.

No need to wet your clown pants, you convinced me. IU is a tremendous cfb power. Congrats to you and JMU.

Another clown pants wetter on the Purdue forum.

I noticed that in the IU pr video on btn, it actually starts by showing a glimpse of clown pants - but yet no mention of IU's best known and most influential grad (no, not Jared or Cuban).

Barry Odom should be the first call but he may not pick up. What he has done at UNLV is every bit as impressive as Cignetti and if the running rebels beat Boise this week he will put them in the playoff.

Purdue may have to wait until thats all over. Strong possibility has to leave UNLV this year simply because they dont even have w conference next year.

3 games into the year the UNLV starting QB left the team due to a bizarre NIL dispute with boosters.

UNLV’s program history is unbelievably terrible. What Odom has accomplished is incredible the past two years is incredible.

His time at Mizzou wasnt really that bad. He got into a pissing match with the AD and told people it was the AD or him.

His career is probably most similar to Sarkeshian and Kiffin. Odom got a power 5 job before he was ready, made plenty of mistakes but also did some really good things and got fired. Then he went back to work with an SEC team and worked his way into another coaching opportunity. When he got it, Odom capitalized big time.

purdue just lost three players today to the transfer portal.

you don't want to make a hasty decision, and you want to hire a good coach. but the longer you wait, the more players will leave or decommit. and the longer you wait, will make Purdue a lot less attractive to any coach. and the likelihood any coach can actually turn this program around is nil.

think about it. if you are coaching your current team to a conference championship, would you want to leave that team ans take over this one ? additionally, to be successful, a coach is going to have to bring his entire staff and 15+ of his recruits and/or current players. A coach who has not been coaching lately is not going to be able to do that.

Kevin Wilson is NOT a great hire. But he may be the best hire actually interested in the job. I hope you don't get your hopes up too high, and think coaches will just jump at the chance to be the Purdue head coach. and just because you may have money to offer doesn't mean smart coaches want to take it.

my inside source at OSU says the AD is not very happy. Not only did OSU lose to Michigan, but in so doing, they also lost the opportunity to host one of the college play-off games. Yes, they will still be in the play-offs. But hosting a play-off game was expected, and would have been a huge revenue generator.

I know a coach who could do just as well as Walters and would gladly accept $250,000 a year. His current coaching experience is track. but I'm quite sure he could win at least one game.

My hope is that you don't expect the next coach to magically win more than 4 games his first year. and what happens if that's all he does win ? will he be fired and bought out too ? To be successful, you need somebody like Prime time to bring in his own coaches and his own players and his own money and his own followers, and tell 60% of our current players, we don't want you anymore. that doesn't seem to be the way Purdue operates.
You really are Dumb! Just because they entered the portal doesn't mean that they are lost!
Please, go away!

Yet here you are obsessing over what we say and whining because your schedule was weak. It'll be alright.
They better hope he’s the real deal - cuz if not that ten year deal is gonna leave them hanging. His critics at JMU complained he could never win the big one - so we shall see.

Now if our Boilers could ever just get to the big one!

Any coach can look at the past two years and see that Walters needed to be fired. If a coach is worried about being fired for going 1-11, then I don’t want that coach anyways. I want a coach with confidence, not one that is looking for job security.
Can anyone put a time frame on how quickly a program can be torn down to the ground.....?

What’s amazing to me is that I’ve seen you clowns post here in exactly two seasons. This year and 2020. Every other year you hide on your board and ban anyone from Purdue. Yet we are never the cowards you are as far as you posting here.

So bask in the season you earned.

However, next time you go 5-7 and lose the bucket game, come back for just as detailed a discussion

  • You are amazed? Sweet.
  • I have "hidden?" Nope.
  • I ban people from message boards? Alllrighty then.
  • Basking in the season? Yup
  • Next time IU goes 5-7 come back? I visited last year when IU football was unimaginably bad. BTW... 5-7 would be an above-average year for IU football historically lol. Not seeing that anytime soon - tons of key pieces coming back from the current team but you never know.
Snark aside; this off-topic sadness started when I posted in this thread that the way for Purdue to transform quickly would be to bring in a successful current head coach that could flip the roster, and that a retread like Chryst would be a bad choice in the current environment. Lots of legit Purdue posters 'liked' the post. Then Riveting trolled the entire board (and me) with the 'clown pants' and 'gonna be so sad in three weeks' crap. Off-topic and nasty we go!

So I'll bow out; didn't want the thread to devolve but I contributed to that by taking the bait from a poster that almost never talks substance.

You are a sane, smart, solid, on-topic poster BC - apologies for taking bait and contributing to the derailment. Good luck on the coaching search - still think you guys are far better off with a current 'lesser name' than a bigger name retread or a coordinator.

PS: Merry Xmas, etc. to y'all!

Every other year they are probably on the Notre Dame board talking about “their team”.
