Current rumors say Ohio state will still be able to have their first playoff game at Ohio state. And that’s all that really matters to their AD. He wants that $$$$.

Additional rumors say the opponent will most likely be IU in a rematch.

If he loses to IU, all bets on him staying at OSU are off. I do expect a couple of his assistants will be made scapegoats.

Last rumor is OSU has a lot of NIL money to spend.

Looks like IU gets Georgia? I've been talking football with a friend that is an NFL nut but had zero interest in college ball until this great season with IU (He's an IU grad). He asked what I thought their chances were, and I said "If Georgia comes out on IU's first possession and their line plays like a pack of mad dogs out for red meat, you are toast." I think they and Bama both have to bury their first round opponents or the entire "SEC is tougher" argument takes some major deflation. For IU, IMO they may be able to initially hang with the dogs, but it's the depth that will catch up with them.

I hate praising the SEC at any time but it’s just a completely different beast with the level of athletes they have. Especially the teams at the top of that conference. Cig will have to get crafty to hang with them at all and agree about the depth.

Forgive this naive question from a guy who hasn't followed the college football expansion that closely:

Is the bracket determined solely by the order of finish in the playoff rankings, or is there a committee like in basketball that has the power to manipulate the seeding to avoid conference games/rematches in the first round?

I believe it's the latter (committee). I commented to my friend that it almost looked like someone was lining up the SEC for the Final Four.

Clemson could throw a wrench into the matchups if they beat SMU and get the automatic bid

top 4 conference champions get seeds 1 - 4, then it goes to at large bids based on ranking (i.e. loser of Oregon vs PSU game is most likely the #5 seed) Big ten and SEC will probably get in 4 teams each. The rankings are done by a committee.

Cig and IU are fools gold. Weak schedule led to several wins. He just screwed the Hoosiers out of a lot of money. Can't compete with the big boys and hasn't to date.

Where did you see that on iu rematch I haven’t seen that anywhere. Most places say georgia.

the same article that said OSU would likely receive a home game for the first play-off round. it was in Yahoo sports earlier today. a lot depends on the outcome of the Clemson/smu game, and if Alabama receives the 12th seed. if Clemson wins, a lot of the playoff seeding will change. i was reading some local articles about OSU.

Yahoo? Really?
OSU is currently the 8 seed. I don’t see that changing as I don’t think they will drop the 7 seed Georgia if they lose and ND doesn’t play as the 6 and PSU won’t drop below OSU. So only way the two play is if indiana is the 9 seed. That is current tennessee who also isn’t playing . I’m pretty sure OSU-TN is all but set in stone and a matchup the CFP will want to see. If Georgia wins they will get a bye and Texas likely moves to 5 to host the B12 champion and then indiana will likely be at Notre dame.

I thought of other scenarios where indiana could also play PSU or Texas:

PSU - Oregon, clemson and Georgia wins. PSU drops ro 6 seed and if they don’t punish smu then indiana drops to 11. This is doubtful as I expect smu will drop out in this scenario.

Texas - PSU, clemson, and georgia win. Oregon gets 5 seed and Texas 6. If indiana is the 11 seed they could play Texas. Again this is very remote as I think indiana is locked in at 10.
