My Weekly CBB Top 25

Purdue is the second youngest in conference

If they can keep roster together they will be really good next year when you factor in all of the teams leaning on 5th year covid talent dries up. Yes there will still be transfers, but the talent pool in CBB will be much lower and Purdue’s experience will grow exponentially compared to others losing 5th years and not replacing with more of them.

It's a bummer they lost Jacobson to grow with the team for next year though.

Surprisingly, Indiana didn't play awful defense. But they weren't missing. Must have saved everything they could from the Michigan State game.
I only watched pieces of the game but it looked like pretty poorly played basketball on both sides to me. Yes, Nebraska hit a bunch of shots but IU didn’t make it very difficult for them.

As an aside, my favorite part was when Ballo laid on the floor and rolled around like a baby whale for 20 seconds after getting pushed down. It was absolutely a foul but it was the perfect snapshot of losing basketball. Literally laying on the floor and whining versus getting your ass up and helping your team.

Are you serious? IU was awful. They had spurts of playing “ok” defense but with the talent they have, that defense was awful. Cmon man. I thought you said you knew ball.

Been trying to tell IU fans Ballo is lazy and was just chasing $$$ and there was reason he was still in college. He’s not that good. Maybe he will figure it out but doubtful.

And that was hilarious when he did that last night.

Yes I am being serious. They played good enough defense to have won a normal game. Just not a game where the other teams shoots 61% from the floor. Including 57% from 3. Only thing Nebraska couldn't do was hit FTs. Any normal game for Nebraska and Indiana and Indiana wins. It just happened to take Nebraskas literal best game of the season and Indianas worst shooting game of the season.

IU may improve but they are not good right now. I actually assumed Mgbako was out injured because in the stretches I watched I didn’t hear his name at all.

Just how it is.
Nebraska was able to be efficient because IU can’t play defense. They don’t play team defense/get to the spots they need to. They are bad on the switch for PnR, rice is lost half the time, Goode can’t guard a trash can, Ballo is slow and out of position. It’s ok to admit your team isn’t very good on defense, but for you to think it was all due to Nebraska being the most “efficient” all year is a bit laughable.

Nebraska hit a lot of tough shots. A lot of contested shots. Indiana's defense wasn't great, but a team shooting 61% from the floor isn't normal, no matter the defense. Indiana has a lot to be embarrassed about, but Nebraska drank some of MJs special juice before the game apparently. They shot from the field as well as they did from the FT line.

Nebraska has beat IU 4 times in a row. They’ve shot 46%, 49%, 50% and 61% this time. All have been double digit blow outs. In all 4 of those games they hit roughly the same amount of shots and attempted the same, except this last one—they took 10 less shots. But that’s because IU’s defense is horrible and there were more shots around the rim, which = higher % of making them. Also, Nebraska attempted less 3s this go around, which is a lower % shot than a 4 footer.

It’s not the special juice, Elmer, it’s the fact that IU can’t guard.

And all of those other percentages and you're looking at a way different result. A normal game from them and IU had a chance to win. Doesn't help Indiana couldn't throw it in the ocean because Nebraskas defense wasn't good either.

I wouldn't say they can't play defense, just that they don't.

This is the most logically consistent version that you've put out this year. I don't understand Gonzaga dropping 13 slots after losing to UConn, but since you don't believe in KenPom maybe you think UConn is a bad team?

I don't disagree. It's also the inherent risk of buying your team in the market every year. They may figure it out and get better.
There are plenty of teams with every bit as much roster turnover and less talent that look really good right now.

Woodson’s just not very good at this.

I think IU fans overvalue the players they have. With the schedule being as weak as it has been, any decent player is going to look good. The games against decent teams has shown the real skill level of all of the mercenaries.

Rice did look good against Nebraska

The problem with IU, their trying to make him into a PG, he's closer to a 2, so he has struggled in most games but a few, even with a soft schedule. Carlyle is a bust, right now Harris and Cox are better than him! Guards are still average, front line is big but slow afoot on defense, still not a great rebounding team(like Purdue), and a coach who wants to hide his coaching ability by trying to beat the other team down the floor! They are an overpaid bunch of players because IU wants a quick fix back to the days of Knight!

I mean I have UConn at 20th. Who is the highest ranked 3 loss team. Gonzaga right behind them. Which I feel is pretty fair. And this early in the season, it is much easier to make what seem like drastic changes. Unlike the AP though, I am not sold on Baylor or Houston. Baylor also has 3 losses. A 38 point loss to Gonzaga, a 15 point loss to Tennessee and 4 point loss to UConn. They do have a couple nice wins over Arkansas and St. Johns. So if they keep winning, they'll rise back up. As for Houston, also 3 losses to Auburn, Alabama and SDSU. But their wins are Jackson State, Louisiana, Hofstra, Notre Dame, Butler and Troy. They have one Q2 win which was ND who is 100th in the NET and Butler(Q3) who is 76th. Me personally, I don't understand the love they get from the voters or the rating systems. But it is what it is. It is all just my opinion, just like it is for AP Voters and Coach voters. I use my eyeballs, who they have played, beaten, lost to, win/loss margin, what happens to teams around and I'll use NET more than Kenpom but neither are going to be the end all, be all.

So it’s just an “eye test” or maybe you use the RAND formula in excel to let it choose for you?

He took over for a stretch but no one else could hit anything and Rice wasn't going to be able to keep up with Nebraska hitting everything. They have the talent, don't have the coaching.
The Talent got a little better, but it is not top 10! Remember at the middle summer when IU was spouting how Carlyle was a top 20 NBA talent? There is not ONE NBA talent on IU's squad, PERIOD! The same craps happens every year, the HYPE machine goes in full mode every spring and summer. Woodson is not a great coach, true, but Caryle was rated about 1100+ player in the country last year, right now he is rated 589, HPYE, Rice was suppose to be top 20 guard, rated 329 last year , this year he is up 430?? You traded Ware (1st rd) for a 5 year g league player Ballo! What TALENT????

Rice would be an excellent backup PG to Smith next year.

Top 10? No. Top 25? Absolutely. Carlyle Top 20? No, I don't remember that. Must be on a part of the Internet I didn't venture. I don't know why you're telling at me, I didn't hype this team up as a national title contender.
