Even the best recruiters have to have something to sell. If Hazell still in charge of this train wreck, who is going to want to come here? The recruiter isn't the issue. It's the team leadership that's the problem.
Also, one person can only do so much recruiting. Purdue's major problem is depth. You can put a "premiere" recruiter in charge of some of our top recruits, but even if we get a few of those - we have no depth. It reminds me of like Bernard Pollard being an NFL caliber safety - yet we had the worst secondary in the Big Ten - or when Ryan Kerrigan was a beast on the defensive line, but our overall front 7/defense was terrible.
Each assistant is responsible for recruiting. Again, one person will not make or break this. Getting rid of one or 2 people will not make or break this. And it goes back to Hazell's overall management of the program. Even aside from poor play on the field, Hazell has not fired 1 assistant coach in his 2.5 years. How that is possible with the track record of these people - is beyond me. They aren't performing well on the field and they certainly aren't performing well recruiting. Why are these people still employed? Why has there been no shake-up at all?
This is why I get over the whole "get rid of this person or that person". That was talk that should have been done 2 years ago or maybe after last year. Not after year 3. We're beyond it. At this point, it's all on Hazell.
