Is this thread still going on?

IU gamed the first year in a new system by buying a horrendous non conference schedule and got lucky with a very favorable conference slate. Also they benefitted from a rare weak SEC. Kudos to them.

But the results of the playoffs haven't given them any decent wins all of a sudden. In fact, it just supports the fact that 8 is closer to the right number than 12. 1-4 earned their way in by winning conferences. 5-8 are the final four teams. 9-12 got put out of misery pretty easily in the first round.

Grasping??

Dude, you are here and defending 2 losses to the ranked opponents you played.

Georgia down 20-10 in the 3rd with 9:36 to play.
IU down 27-3 in the 4th with 4:50 to play.

You really can't compare the 2......just stop.
It was 20-10. It was also 20-3. Notre Dame still dominated Georgia and it happened in the same way they did Indiana. By controlling the line of scrimmage. Georgias offensive line was overpowered just like Indiana's. It has actually been theme in games all playoff. Penn State vs SMU and Boise State. Ohio State vs Tennessee and Oregon. That's been the difference in all of those games. Shows the importance of a great offensive line.

And IU played against Notre Dame with a quarterback playing on an unrepaired torn ACL. Teams deal with this kind of stuff the best they can. Hard to believe you and others are now making excuses like that for why ND was able to beat Georgia.

IU is your rival but had a great year. The entire college knows that IU football sucked? The whole college footbal world, both media and coaches, thought IU was deserving of their coach getting national coach of the year. The nation-wide selection committee thought the team was worthy of being in College Football Playoffs.

It would be like an IU fan disparaging Purdue's Final Four run with Edey. Yes, UConn was better. But Purdue had an incredible year and earned what and where they got. Full stop. It would take some ridiculous mental gymnastics to think otherwise, and I sure don't think otherwise. Same goes for this year's IU Football team.
IU fans did disparage Purdue's run, all you had to do was read one of their message boards. I guess you didn't because you spend all of your time here trying to validate IU's rise to football greatness. LOL. BTW there is no comparing IU buying an entire team to Edey that was a scholarship athlete recruited by Purdue and playing his entire career at Purdue. IU bought out UL and had the weakest schedule in the Big Ten and brought in a whole new team and coach. It worked. Won't work again. You caught your lightning in a bottle and used it up. You'll have a decent record again next year against another weak ass schedule, after that you'll slide back into mediocrity. If IU had played Purdue's schedule you would have had 4 losses and everyone would have talked about how much IU had improved and watched as they got waxed in a bowl game. Instead they watched you get waxed in the playoff.

Solid job of stating that:
  1. IU Football is already toast going forward, and then
  2. Contradicting yourself to explain away IU Football doing well next year.
All in one post! Finishing by loading up on the future excuses for IU Football winning 7-10 games next season? Nothing like planning ahead.

They didn’t dominate them . I’m fact georgia outscored ND 10-3 for 39 of the 40 minutes as ND scored 17 of them in a 60 second segment of game time. Heck georgia had more offensive yards than ND by 50+. Georgia had a lot of unfortunate plays, fumble before half, dropped pass, dumb penalty on 4th down, even a walkon QB on street clothes getting in the way. And until the final drive Georgia had about 100 more offensive yards. How is that being dominated?

Meanwhile until garbage time ND had about 250 more yards than Indiana.

But don’t let facts get in the way.

And yet Georgia was in the game until almost the end with their backup QB.

Indiana was out of it at opening kickoff and scored two meaningless touchdowns against the backups to make it seem closer than it was.

So yes, the cartoon is correct and only people who don't understand sports don't get it.
They were so far out of it they even punted in the 4th to avoid further embarrassing themselves. The game was over at that point and even the coach that wins knew it.

Simplify it for them.

With a 1:30 to go in both games, what was the score.

I guess my saying IU playing a weakass schedule next year didn't adequately express my thoughts of how much disdain I have for IU's path to mediocrity? LOL

Not third quarter or 'almost over' scores. Here's some actual 'played the whole game-final' scores. And all from the past two months:

Feel free to keep posting about how final scores aren't the ones that matter most.

IU's schedule next year will likely be top 25-ish or better. Three cupcakes to start, but then it includes at Penn State, at Iowa, at Oregon, at Maryland, at what I would suppose you all will project will be a greatly improved Purdue team, and home against Wisconsin, Illinois, MSU, and UCLA. Seven to ten wins would be outstanding for a historically bad P5 program and would not be "mediocre."

That is much improved. There are 4 games on that schedule I would say would have been harder than your biggest win this year (home vs Michigan (Oregon, Iowa, PSU, il) and at MD and home vs WI would be in that same tier. Indianas team this year probably goes 7-5 with that schedule. I do think that is still mediocre for big ten standards as it would be a 4-5 big ten record. But going to a decent bowl game for indiana would be great. I would take 7-5 next year for sure!

He played the whole season with a torn all and was second team all big ten. Don’t pretend like he was handicapped in their game.
Yeah, he played well vs. most of the lower tier teams on their schedule. I wouldn't give the ACL tear an excuse when losing to better teams/programs.

I didn't find anything confirming when the actual tear took place or how long he's had it.

Oregon proves the point that good teams can win against top teams but also get manhandled vs those same teams. IU not so much......

He has torn it 3 times, most recently in august. In 2017 sindelar played a substantial part of the season on a torn acl and played some of his best football. Broc Thompson played on a shredded knee only to be bowl game mvp and then retired.

All are remarkable feats but indiana is making this out to be like they were handicapped. They still had a stellar performance from him and no one would have even known he was hurt. His coaches didn’t even know he kept it from them.
