Based on the 30 existing threads about it on the first page I'd say yes.
What many of us here don't know is what CMP will do with the talent he has coming in. What will the 6'5" Benter do?
I would think Purdue would use the portal if and only if there was a talent out there, they feel would have immediate impact as CMP generally likes to grow the talent he has. The problem Purdue has is minutes. You need a high-quality player willing to share minutes and that is very unusual these days.

The reason I am worried is because we lost a huge amount of athleticism with Colvin and Heide leaving.
true, but unfortunately that athletic ability for most of the season held no advantage for Purdue. Their production wasn't as high as their athletic ability far too often. This is not to castigate them, but merely to say that the chasm between athletic ability and production was greater than needed to be...
If you look at the top teams, comparatively we have plenty of basketball skill here.
What we are lacking though is athleticism & physicality there sometimes needed? Although, considering how we did against Physical Houston, our 3 spot was ok.....But that was due to defensive scheme more than anything, as it was the same with FL.
There is no question our 3 scoring was suspect and disappeared at times this year.....so yea.....can't just be athleticism, got to be a scorer too.

Purdue will likely bring in 2 more players, for sure 1, guessing it will be someone that you’re hoping for.
I would doubt very much if more than 1 more is brought in. Think Matt likes what Benter and West brings along with anticipated step up in Cox and Harris.

If I had a nickel for every time Purdue fans bemoaned our “lack of athleticism “ over the last two seasons — WITH Myles and Cam —, I’d qualify to be a special advisor for DOGE😎
I’m fascinated at all the angst now— about how these defections represent a gargantuan loss of “athleticism” — when it was at best inconsistent while they were here.
Hopefully both kids have found what they’re looking for.
Yes, I wish the best for both and that they improve the areas they need to reach their goals.
The reason I’m not worried is 1. I can’t do anything about it and B. Matt Painter is the coach.
We made the Championship game with Edey, TKR, Jones, Loyer & Smith.... basically 3 guard lineup. I think Cox or Harris could fill Lance's role. Granted we don't have Edey, but we have DJ & Cluff & TKR & Braden will both be 1st team AA next season.
Cam could JUMP. High. Not extraordinarily athletic beyond that that I can see. Not great moving laterally. A bit stiff in the upper body it seemed. Even Myles isn't the athletic beast many seem to think. Again, great leaper. For SURE. But thats only 1 aspect of athleticism.

Last season's team was pretty competitive - almost pulled off an upset of houston - but they were limited in a couple areas. The big one was rebounding. With Edey in the lineup, Purdue was one of the best in the country at rebounding. Last year, they were good, but not great. Putting Furst in the lineup really helped close the gap, but adding Cluff should make Purdue one of the better rebounding teams next season. They'll need to replace the outside shooting so if they get Mayer that will address that area along with a really good ballhandler. I can see Purdue adding a bigger wing player, but based on how things unfold, could be a depth or 6th man type guy,
I agree on Cam, but I really do think that Colvin is extremely athletic.
Agree with most of that, but I think Mayer's biggest contribution will be PG relief. Distributing, running set plays, ball handling. That kind of thing. Shooting would be a bonus, but not his main thing.
The staff is already looking elsewhere to replace both Heide and Colvin. John Camden and/or Kennard Davis Jr are the likely candidates to fill the shooter role. We're in good shape with Camden, but Davis is iffy. I read that both Louisville and OSU are in the mix.
EDIT: Nevermind. John Camden committed to Cal yesterday (4/13).

More so than Cam for sure. But more "competitive" than "oh my gosh". Except the leaping, exceptional.
perhaps - Smith is wired to play 45 minutes a game (OT if needed). I've only seen highlight Mayer videos and they're all shooting from the cheap seats, driving to the basket, shooting from inside the elbow, and making a pass to score. I'm sure he has passing skills and if they are in the Smith range, then he won't be in college for more than a year. He reminds me of Jimmer Fredette - who could take over a game. Purdue needs at least 3 of these guys on the roster - Smith, TKR, Loyer - adding Mayer shoule be a highly favored championship team.
He was at Purdue yesterday so hopefully it went well.
Smith might be wired for 45 minutes but that doesn't mean his legs hold up for 45, they don't.
We all saw tired (and ineffective) Braden this year. More than a couple of times.

I visited an Oscar Meyer plant 50+ years ago. Did you know that hot dog and bologna start as a slurry? Thick liquid, not till they are stuffed and lightly cooked that they become more "solid". Was enlightening......and that's no baloney, Pa........

my grandfather worked at an oscar meyer factory in Madison WI. My great grandparents owned Stoppenbach Sausage in Jefferson, WI, (later sold). Do you want to know what other animals often find their way into the vats that become the meat that you eat ? You may never eat another hot dog or bologna sandwich or dijourno's sausage pizza again. It's all protein.
Hopefully this season’s team is good enough to win a bunch of games without Braden on the floor for 40 minutes.
agreed. But we still need a solid relief man in place to spell him. Hopefully Gicarri and CJ have that handled if we don't get another ballhandler.
out East here , there's a breakfast option called Scrapple that I believe originated in Philly, some love it as for me I never tried it.
