Fascinating statistic

I just saw this and thought it was fascinating:

During Matt Painter's tenure, Purdue is undefeated... undefeated in games where they score more points than their opponent.

Based upon that, we can reach a couple of conclusions:
  • Painter should be focused on scoring as many points as possible
  • Painter should try to limit the number of points scored by the other team
Once you see it, it's obvious. I just hope Painter sees it too.

It goes further than that. When we fail to score more points than our opponents, we are winless. Not just under Painter either. In the entire history of the program!

Here is where it gets really tricky for some. Painter's winning percentage when scoring more than our opponents is identical to both Coach K and Bob Knight. That's some pretty heady company.

Of course, Tom Crean also is tied with the aforementioned duo which is why he should remain IU's coach for a long, long time!

Interesting...

Seems to be more than just a correlation. Might actually be some truly significant results in this data.

And yes, the folks at IU would undoubtedly be swayed by that argument.
