I am not sure I saw it correctly, but there was a shot by Easter that was crazy. It was toward the 30 point lead mark, just before Painter emptied the bench. The was thrown toward the top corner of the court and Easter rose, caught the ball and seemed to shot it in one motion.

I said something like Holy Crap! However, they didn't do a replay. Did I see what I thought I saw?

Do you know how much time was left? I am backing up my recording to see if I can catch it
I should have noted the time, but didn't. I was kind of sitting there thinking about next year when this kid gets a year under his belt. C-Boogie, Eastern and Cline = one wicked backcourt!

3:41 left in the game. He caught the ball with his back to the basket ( in the air) turned and made the shot with out coming down. Since I can watch it over and over, he saw the pass coming and when he left his feet he was already twisting. Lower body was going upper body just had to catch up. Very athletic move

Kid has a lot of skill. I tend to agree with his mom. He needs playing time to get into the flow of the game and learn. He did a few things tonight where he was not successful but that how some learn.

Mandeville has it right. It was a freshman PG posting up in the paint. He sealed his man beautifully, and he paid it off when he got fed. It's definitely the type of play that gets me excited about his future.

Why don’t we post him up more when Haas is out? Put Haarms at the high post and 3 shooters around the arc.

I love inverted sets, so count me in. It was only 1 play, but that kind of action is exactly the type of mismatch that a tall, physical PG can provide. I have no idea if NE is ready to do that on a consistent basis at this time, but the potential is surely there.

Why is it that some of u so concerned with my son shot. Many threads on here about his FT or his lack of confidence or whatever you all have opinions about an 18 year old kid. Leave him be unless you walk in shoes or play basketball at this level you have absolutely no idea what he goes through day to day. I would like to see some of you shoot the ball and than have people criticize or Nick pick at your game and than post a thread about shame on some of you for doing what you r doing. He fine his shot will get better in time but my gosh leave this kid alone you will miss him when he gone bcuz some of you you don’t appreciate what this kid brings to this team. Im gonna stand up for my son he can play and with some extended minutes he’ll be able to help this team in the long run. You never no what you have till it’s gone.

I was not being critical. I was simply amazed at the athleticism of Nojel. I was like... Wow! Holy crap that was great!

1) He was paying your son a compliment
2) Purdue has had loads of talented players. I hope Nojel becomes one of them, but he isn't there yet
3) Part of the reason Nojel receives plenty of attention on these boards is because his mother posts here

This isn’t directly at you didn’t mean to single you out but there has been several threads about his Ft or shooting and quite frankly it’s pretty petty of some on here that keep bringing it up. I no what he needs he will get the help to correct his shot that will help with his FT than that will make him a matchup problem moving forward. He now has figured some things out and now he’s putting it all together why we all now can see what this kid can do. Like I have always stated just need min to get in a flow than he can be very productive offensively and defensively. His t/o or drastically down and he isn’t fouling like he use too and his on ball and off ball defense has been impeccable so he figuring it out the more he is on the court. 5 days home during Christmas break it’s me, him and Trainer helping him get his shot right and being consistent. As conference play begins the bench will be needed and he will be a big piece they will need during conference play and NCAA Tournament run. He gonna be just fine

I think mathboy was actually complimenting Nojel and was saying his shot was crazy [good]. I for one was very impressed. I think he knew the defender was coming, and if he has caught the ball and came to the ground, the defender might be able to get in position. But by twisting and shooting before he came back to ground, it was a beautiful basket.

Moreover, I am impressed with his versatility. Made a 3 while also posting up against smaller defenders. I also love how strong he was to get that offensive rebound. He was doing very well on defense too. Early in the season he was plagued by fouls and turnovers, but that hasn't been a problem lately. Good improvement.

The only [constructive] criticism I'd say is, try look up more when dribbling. When IUPUI went to a zone, Nojel was too busy looking at the man in front that he missed Cline who was open. But that was not just him - Vincent Edwards as a senior also just put down his head and didn't see Cline.

Overall, it is a good game by Eastern. I look forward to seeing his continual improvement.

He is there but that is your opinion and I will leave it at that. Funny how so many no what my son can do when he hasn’t played much to show what he can do. It doesn’t matter he is my son or not I will still comment when I read some things I feel may be negative I just happen to be his mother that is all. Not playing can mess with anybody mind and at 1st it was messing with him than he and I had a mother son talk and now he is figuring it out and he at ease now mentally. He gonna be just fine.

Nojel seemed to get more comfortable as the game went on and played some really good minutes. I loved the deflection he caused and then the pass from Carsen back to Nojel for the fastbreak basket as well. Looking forward to getting to see more of Nojel on the court as the season progresses. Boiler Up!

I love the passion! It must be a thrill having one of your kids play high level D1 basketball. However, after reading several of your posts it might not be a bad idea to ditch these message boards? I’m not exactly sure how much posting on these boards is going to help your son any? Just out of curiosity, does he know you post on here? I’m excited to watch Nojel grow into a big time player at Purdue. Happy holidays

I've had a few of those same talks with my son in both high school and in college! He has experienced many frustrating days! And. Has quit at least 50,000 times! And I've had my own frustrations with him! Sometimes, both parent and athlete need to step back ! And yes, parents and athletes need to air out their frustrations to be able to improve!

Nojel has some awesome talent to say the least. He will be a star sooner rather than later so we all need to just enjoy watching it come around, which mathboy was doing, while he is here.

Thanks for your advice but it doesn’t matter whether I’m on this message board or not I still hear the insane remarks in the stands about his FT shooting I’m a parent sir and like most parents we will react when someone is saying things about your kid. I no not all on here are critical of his FT shooting but to keep bringing it up and making threads about it is a bit much now. I no exactly what’s going on with my son FT shooting and I’m in the process of getting him the help he needs to help fix this problem. He works hard everyday on his game including his shooting and FT to get better. I no it’s not the prettiest shot many have seen but neither is Lonzo Ball shot or many other players whether nba or college don’t shoot the ball well including their FT. Great thing is it’s fixable and I’m gonna get him the help to fix it. Let it be is all I’m saying and enjoy this kids special gifts and talent he does have while he is here at Purdue. There is a saying be careful for what u wish for right we’ll you will miss him when he is gone. He has size 6”7 and so much talent some of you haven’t seen yet and it’s beginning to show each game he plays just a matter of time he puts it all together.

One thing to keep in mind with all of this, those people that are yelling about his FT shooting both on here and in the stands, I have little doubt could not do any better. And, if they truly did know what they were talking about, they would be coaching somewhere in the big leagues.

So by your analysis, Rick Mount knows nothing about shooting, and if he were to post advice on here he should be disregarded.

I can’t stand when I go to a game and I have to listen to complainers, but that is the world that we live in. Your son is on a big stage now and there is nothing any of us posters here can do to change that. Just know that for every critic, Nojel has many fans supporting him.

Treed, you have issues. I think it would be better for your son if you stayed away from fan forums. Basic reading comprehension shows that the original poster was amazed by the shot and doing nothing more than paying a compliment to Nojel.

Somehow you twisted that into an attack and now this entire thread feels gross when it should have been a positive. I was very impressed with Nojel's game last night, but your interactions here make me hesitant to get behind him 100%.

I assume you know who Lavar Ball is? Think about him before you post.

Based on some poster's replies, we actually do have some experienced coaches who post here! The key is to understand which ones are being critical and trying to improve his game! And which ones are just fans who are just critical and like to complain. We also have several internet sports blog writers who have some cred who post here. So some of the posts made are valid!

I'm just a fan! My skills are internet research! I don't make things up! If I add something here, that means it has usually already been written by somebody whose opinion I value! I speculate and look for trends!

One trend I see is a continued criticism of players' FT shooting! I don't see that trend going away any time soon! Even players with 80+ FT% will be criticized when they miss!

Yes it gets annoying to see the complaints during and after every game! Every time you hear or read a complaint, do you feel the need to reply to that person, or can you shrug it off? Does a parent stop going to games or stop reading what is written about their child because of the complaints? Or do they become like La Var Ball?

I believe the key is to understand why the complaints are made because they are not going to go away! One reason is because people tend to be more critical of players with talent! Nobody is going to complain about Grady or Luce! The second reason is to know a little bit about Purdue basketball history! Purdue has had some great teams in the past! However, their greatness was undermined by several heartbreaking losses that were attributed to a missed FT down the stretch! If only that player had made that FT, Purdue might have made the Final 4! Purdue has had a lot of near misses! And they are very painful! Many Purdue fans could care less about missed 3 point shots! We care about missed FTs because they bring back bad memories!

I have a friend who just got married. And she really wants to have a baby! When she goes home for the holidays, her friends and family always ask her if she is pregnant! And she becomes very depressed and upset because she is not and she wants those people to stop asking and bringing the subject up! But just like this FT discussion, they don't stop! We all know what will make them stop asking! I've told my friend that these people keep asking because they know how important it is to her. And they ask because they love and care for her and they have hopes for her! The same is true for Purdue basketball players! The majority of people who criticize do so because of their love and passion and are trying to help and yes they can be annoying and you wish they would just shut up!

The best way is to think of us as family! Yes we have arguments, but we all share the same passion. A lot of people hate my posts, but they still read them! I take it as a complement when people are critical of me! I use it as motivation that my posts are being read!

Nojel IS there talent-wise. Every player has aspects of his or her game they want to improve. Part of the reason MJ and Lebron were and are so great is they always kept and keep working to get even better.

The only way for Nojel to gain big-situation, D1 experience is through playing time in them. With veteran guards such as PJ, Carsen and Mathias also capable and more proven in those situations, Nojel is still earning more of that time. Emphasis on "earning." That's not a bad thing.

Let's not be impatient. It may actually turn out best that we have the luxury this year of not HAVING to rush his progress. More time to work on aspects of his game he wants to improve AND grow into the greatness of which he shows so much potential.

I look at Aaron Rogers! He's a future hall of gamer who had to wait for his opportunity to shine! The same could be said for Boston Celtics hall of famer Havlicek ! He was a 6th man for about 3-5 years before becoming a starter! Look at Edwards last year and this year! Eastern' time will come!

. Since you all in my business I replied back to that poster it wasn’t directed at him and I did not respond to any other post about it. You choose to support him I don’t care what you do and sir i comprehended every word every other poster said that was a compliment. I brought up the FT bcuz there have been several post about his FT shooting and I overreacted to that poster. Bottom line sir your advice is not needed I no what I’m doing and I’m not bothering anybody so you can go and keep your funky comment to yourself and move On. Funny Lavar comment however I’m nothing like Lavar you have no idea who I am b4 you judge me stay out of my business and you can keep your sarcastic A$$ comments to yourself. I don’t need your permission to be on this board and I’m done even replying to you I’m moving on Peace.

99% of the comments in here are praising Nojel. Sometimes folks create their own drama.
Im well aware of the many posters complimenting my son on his efforts and at 1st I read it wrong than realize he matboy was complimenting my son on that particular move and than more jump in on it all good comments and I did reply by saying that message wasn’t directed towards him, but it was a general statement about the threads about my son FT shooting and I was kinda let it go move on to something else to post about than this constant critique of his FT. I’m well aware of his struggles with his shot and FT shooting so are others who see it and it will be something we get him help with. He working on it and I’m going to help him get it right.
