Don't we need another Guard?

And to be clear I just meant at any point in his career, next year I don’t see him with any chance at 3rd team.
Smith averaged 10/4/4 and 1.2 steals while shooting 38% from 3 for a team that won the conference title by games as a true freshman. He could easily make 3rd team this season. It would be a great accomplishment, but he’s a very good point guard.

You think he’ll be one of the top 15 players in the conference? Go take a look at who’s returning. If smith makes it, it definitely won’t be easily.

I'm as happy as the next guy with a B10 title, but the B10 was very weak last year. The conference was really exposed in the tourney.

So you don’t want us to be a 1 seed, so we can beat a 1 seed?

I agree I think he’s being underestimated by some folks on what he’s going to contribute
The question I have is can he dribble? I haven't seen enough of him to know.

Its great to be as athletic as he is, but if he can't do anything with the ball its rather all for not.

You would think a high D1 wing would be able to dribble. However, Painter seemingly has a knack for recruiting wings who can't dribble all that well (recent memory->Wheeler, Gillis, Newman...) thus I'm a bit hesitant to pencil Heide in at the 3.

Here a high school recruiting video:

Great video, I haven't seen that in a while, good reminder. Was going to post that I think he was more of a 2 than a 3 earlier in his high school career when he was ranked in the top 25 nationally. His ranking slipped as he was hurt and never really dominated the way that he was projected to but the physical gifts and skills have always been there.

It’s a very simple question: if you get a 1
seed, how are you going to beat a higher seed ?
How many 1 seeds has Purdue had under Painter.
Here, I'll make it easier: How many 1 seeds has Painter beaten?
Want it even easier? How many teams (other than a 7-10 game against.......St.Mary's) has Painter beaten in the tourney that were seeded more that 1 seed higher?
History and statistics aren't not on your side.

My summer is already consumed with travel lacrosse, fishing, boating, and work when I feel like it. I'm too busy to worry about the end of the world. I mean, didn't Al Gore already tell us we'll all be under water in like, 10 years? Might as well enjoy the ride down.

You bet. Have a great summer and let's hope for a great football and basketball season coming up. Have fun!

By the way, where do you boat? Great Lakes or smaller ponds?

I am selling my bass boat. Just too busy to take a whole day fishing. And when I do fish often head out with buddies in their boat. Who would have known in retirement that would be the case?

guys just enjoy your retirement, 2 yrs ago when I retired along w/ my wife, 4 months later my wife has developed Dementia when she was 64, my retirement so far has been a care giver, so mine is on hold.

I kind of like the #2 seed. You have less expectations. Nobody gets on your case when you get upset! And it seems #2 seeds have a greater success rate against #3 seeds than 1 vs 4 seeds. I don’t like being the #4 seed. If successful they end up having to play the #1 seed. And a lot of #4 seeds seem to lose to #5 seeds! The #6 seed seems to be a good spot. It makes the team work for their wins in hostile environments! #6 teams are rarely upset because they prepare and play with a chip on their shoulder!

Hang in there buddy. Patience & love is key. That's a tough road. Wish they would have more meds to assist with that.

With me you'd never know or notice what illness I have. There are pluses and minuses.

I think we’ll be surprised by a good football season. I’ll be traveling to the VaTech game. Basketball will have high expectations and Painter just needs to make the right decisions on lineups and playing time.

I boat inshore, Island hop, etc but mainly fish offshore: mahi, tuna, wahoo, billfish. We fish tournaments for wahoo, mahi and king mackerel.

We fish mainly offshore. Having some friends with big boats helps. Fished last week on a 37 ft catamaran that had quad 350s. We were going 72 through the harbor. Only negative is burning 2-300 gallons at $5.50/ gal.

Two seeds do not have greater success against three seeds than ones do against fours. Far and away the seed with the most FF's and NC's are the ones (not surprisingly). Having said that, I'd rather go in as a two seed that's hitting it's stride than a one seed that's struggling as we did last year.

I am not convinced that “ones” are successful as they are because they have an easier path. I think that the greater factor is that the best teams earn the highest seeds. 2023 was an unusual year in that none of the top seeds were truly dominant teams. Purdue, for example, earned a top seed, but with obvious chinks in the armor that we all saw. My bet is that 2024 will revert to the historical pattern where the best teams earn the highest seeds.

I think that Purdue has a great chance to be one of those top seeds and to enter the NCAA tournament as a much more complete team than in 2023. To do this, Purdue is going to need to be much stronger with the ball and a much more confident and consistent shooting team. Improved defense will go a long ways as well.

Hopefully Painter has reached out and told him there's an open competition for the starting PG spot on a top 3 team with FF and NC expectations.

FF expectations? Is CMP the coach? If CMP is the coach, change that to FF dreams. 1980 is long way away to have those types of expectations.

If we say expectations, then that means CMP failed. He’s untouchable, we can’t say he failed like he has the last 18+ years.

10, 11, 12, 13, 15, 16… the only expectations that I have for Paint in the dance is to lose to a #14.

No one has been harder on Painter for his failures in March than me. But, to whom much is given, much is expected.
I realize that Painter has done virtually nothing to give us any confidence in him getting to a FF and NC, but it's he's going to do it, it better happen soon.
