How does this team beat Auburn?

1. Turnovers- They have got to cut these down to 10 or less. When the big 3 turn the ball over we lose. It’s that simple. Take care of the ball and play off of two feet.

2. Get to the line- This was the key for Duke in their win over Auburn. To do this we have to be more aggressive and attack the rim.

3. Three pointers- This was a strength of the team early on. They absolutely need to shoot a good percentage and probably take more than 25 attempts.

4. Embrace the physicality- I don’t think this team is soft but they have to handle the physicality of the game better to hang with a physical team like Auburn. This is where the tough games earlier in the season needs to pay off. Do they adjust?

5. Painter- Coach has to bring his A game Saturday. Auburn is the best team in the country and Paint needs to get this team ready to take on this challenge.

Anybody else or are we just accepting the fact that this game is a loss?

4) eh, I think the team IS soft. Doesn't mean they can't change but we have nobody with Zach OR Masons steel backbones (or hard muscles) on this team. To date.
We've shown we can play with any team in the country when we play well. Auburn (like CT) is very good and in ways that cause us problems usually. It will take a very good effort to beat them.

Good list.

Need Myles and Cam to be aggressive and attack when they have mismatches and get into the lane. We need to push tempo.

Someone needs to produce off the bench. Cox/Harris need to flip the script that they are in to simply spell Braden....they have to be in attack mode at all times when they are on the floor.

I may also add rebounding. We have been killed on the boards in our losses. Turnovers and rebounding are our most obvious weaknesses.

Yep that's it.

But don't bet the house on it.

Purdue has great shooters, but there will be off games shooting the three. Purdue has to take care of the ball and protect the boards to compete for the Big Ten championship.

Agreed with the consensus here; to over-simplify:

1) don’t turn it over
2) crisp ball MOVEment, and make the threes that crisp ball movement in this motion offense will create
3) embrace the physicality.

This is a tall task to be sure, but it’s one hell of an opportunity, and absolutely doable if Purdue executes and stays true to its principles….

Timing is everything.

Purdue beat themselves to an extent against TAM. Should be focused and salty after a week to sit in loss.

Auburn is feeling good cakewalkimg through tough schedule and everyone saying they are the best team. Rat Poison.

Right before Christmas

The timing couldn't be better to maybe hit Auburn when they are a bit flat.

IF Purdue brings A game you never know....

.

Refing that calls fouls might give us a chance?

OR Watching the FL-NC game .....these refs are atrocious allowing moving pics all day for NC. Of course this never happens🤔, but it looks like these refs were paid to keep it close. Perhaps we get those types.... lol

One of either Berg, Burgess or Furst has to play meaningful minutes AND come up with a solid performance around 10 pts / 8 boards or something close to that. Our 5 has to alter shots and fight for rebounds. Otherwise, it's apparent we will have trouble beating top 25 teams all season.

I think 8 pt 8 boards between the 3 of them each night should be the goal. Doesn’t matter how it gets there but, at this point, that’s what we need. We also need the big 3 to play perfect just about every night moving forward if we want to have a shot at the B1G

Not likely. Maybe, maybe the three together could get those numbers. That would be an improvement.

This.

Our current small-ball lineup does not give us the possession advantage from rebounding that we’ve probably taken for granted now for several years. If you’re getting fewer possessions, you’re already climbing uphill at a steeper grade even if you execute well. That’s a really hard thing to overcome every game. And while not specific to any given lineup, the increase in turnovers has the same effect.

We’ve got some guards and forwards who rebound well for their position, but you need that five to be a monster off the glass.

I'd rather see this team get exposure to an elite team at full strength but this certainly increases the chances of pulling an upset (although I'd still expect Purdue to be an underdog). The good news is that they'll get the full quantitative benefit if they can manage to pull it out.

Never know, it may not have an impact. There may be a ranker or two like that podcast guy who posts here. 😂

I completely agree. If this team were able to pull it out (I still think there's a less than 20% chance that they beat this team in Birmingham), particularly as the season goes on people would just see the win and not factor in who played or was out.

Seems simple, if we have another game of Smith spending most of the shot clock trying to navigate around a high double until single digits are left on the shot clock we lose.

If we find ways to exploit such a defense, we win.

Smith had more blocks in the last game than TKR has all season (fun fact of he week)

I think we come out with a chip on our shoulder...we usually rebound after a bad turnover game...Fletch needs to do fletch in a big game...but I think Colvin and Heide both put together a must needed scoring barrage....Purdue pulls out a stunner 75-72

Alabama is ranked #6 in the country.
