I'd argue that if you can read any context at all MP told us exactly what happened in the interview posted above. He's about as honest and straightforward as any coach is going to be.

Some people (not naming any names Bone ;)) would rather ignore or try to discredit any real information so that they can claim that their views are valid despite being contrary to what all the data shows us.
No. He didn't tell us exactly anything. What you're inferring or interpreting may or may not be the truth. And to say that so n so "Demanded a starting spot and to be the focus of the offense", because that's what you think Painter was implying (but didn't say), is wrong. It's just your opinion.
And I'm not discrediting "real" information, because you don't have real information. You're taking what you heard in a media interview and trying to extrapolate specifics.
The reality is, only the recruit, his family, agent and Painter know what was requested, demanded, promised, etc. We the fans don't.

Did you just make up the quote above? I haven't heard anyone say that.

I'm quoting MP directly when he said KC 'was really concerned about his role'. Are you thinking that maybe KC was worried that his role was going to be too big?

Recent one: Do any of us really know what happened with the Catchings decommiment? Sure, there's plenty of speculation: "He wanted to be guaranteed minutes", "He wanted the offense to revolve around him" "He wanted $XX amount in NIL", etc, etc, etc.
But, none of us were in the room with Painter, Catchings, his parents and agent, so we don't know what the real reason was. (Saying "I heard" isn't worth much).

So, whatever the truth was/is, Painter is going to spin it so that neither party looks like the bad guy.
He's not going to say "Catchings wanted to be guaranteed a starting spot and I told him no". Even though that may be the truth, he's not going to say that.
Painter talked about it and usually doesn’t talk about things like that. But ok, I’ll give you that one just to make you happy. Any other ones?

There's 10 different ways you can interpret that. But your personal interpretation could be completely different than the actual truth.

He could be referring to a starting role, playing time, his role in the offense, his job on defense, his ability to play inside or outside the 3 pt line.....We don't know (and neither do you).
You're just guessing that was Painter was inferring was that Catchings wanted a guaranteed starters role. But you don't know that, and Painter didn't say that.

This team needs the opposition to miss shots. But they allow too many good ones. They’ve got to get so so so much better defensively, which everyone knew would be a thing. But it just looks so bad when we have to take the ball out after a made basket or free throw. It’s just Braden being hounded and handing it off 40 feet from the basket, then back to him, and then nothing.

Frustrating to watch us get dog walked twice already. But we have a good coach and good players, so let’s find some answers.
Defensively guards still can’t stay in front of their man. Offensively, if Colvin and Heide can’t get their own shot it will be a long season. Heide has become typical rebound and shoot 3s guy. He needs to use his athleticism.

Smith get you the ball in position to shoot with good shots you have to hit them.without the big guy in the middle every team will drive to the basket this year you have to help out on defense

If you were trying to use the post above as an example of how you use rhetoric and faulty logic to try to discredit real data, congrats, that’s a perfect illustration.

He has no help bringing the ball up when he gets double teamed no body steps up to make the other team pay it will be a long season if they don’t figure it out
Even when he's double teamed and Smith makes the pass...there is no urgency from the help to drive it towards the hoop with a 4-3. They just cross the timeline and wait for Smith to start the offense...Colvin and Heide seldom attack the rim. Give Loyer a lot of credit ...our only wing that attacks the hoop.

Except we know that Painter said no and moved on.
So we pretty much DO know that his requests/demands/promises were not agreed to, whatever they were.

Need Heide to attack the rim
Like he did during that last min vs TAMU where he dunked on that dudes head after driving past him

What real data?
You're taking a vague, (very vague for obvious reasons) quote and you're putting your own interpretation on it. In science, data is not subjective.

Agreed, that whatever the difference of opinion was, it couldn't be agreed upon. I suspect $$ had a lot to do with it as going to BYU was a head scratcher. But then again, BYU did just sign the #1 recruit in the nation, so they're throwing some $ around.

CH and MC don't have that as part of their game. If it's a wide open line like Heide was given, then sure. Both rarely show the ability to break a guy down off the dribble, get into the paint and finish.

Heide does…he literally did it at the end of the TAMU game. It seems they aren’t told/have green light to be aggressive and look for that.

He did it because the defense was slow in rotating over and the lane was wide open. Exciting play, yes, but he didn't break anyone down with his ball handling ability.

Watch him, Colvin and Loyer vs Auburn. Granted, Auburn is really good, but you'll see how physical man D will neutralize those 3 and what they want to do (which is hang around the 3 pt line and shoot jumpers). Smith is going to be harassed all the way up the court and we won't get into our offense until 10-11 sec left in the shot clock.

I hope I'm wrong and will happily eat crow if I am, but Auburn is a bad match up.

Fair enough. It was tough to see completely where I was sitting at the game. But even if they were slow to rotate, he still should take advantage of that more. And I understand what you mean now by having in their “bag”…that’s what the young kids say these days 😉.

And agree with Auburn being a bad matchup, but that’s why paint schedules these tough ones in non conference cuz we more than likely don’t see this type of team (from top to bottom and strategy wise) in the B1G. With Broome POTENTIALLY out on Saturday, we MAY have more of a chance, but still going to be very tough.

Something’s gotta change and hope we see whatever that change may be in this game and over the next month.

I think Purdue hangs with Auburn in the first half, being down 3-5 at halftime. But Auburn will make adjustments and take away whatever was working in the first half (probably mainly Loyer getting open looks or not forcing Smith to give up the ball).
Unless Colvin and Heide go nuts from 3 and we get more than just a few points off the bench, I think this ends up a 20 pt loss. Again, hope I'm way off, but the 3 teams that beat us soundly play similar to Auburn (long, strong athletic perimeter players and the ability to crash the glass.).

That's a ridiculous statement. Ask a data scientist about techniques for interpreting subjective data. There are PhD level classes on the subject.
But the data you referred to is your subjective opinion. Opinion is not data. Find me a direct quote or video of Painter saying so-n-so wanted to be guaranteed a starting spot, and I'll believe it.

That's idiotic. Of course, the head coach's statement is a data point. I have never said that KC wanted a guaranteed starting spot.
