Cline, best shooter ever?

He didn't say ever seen. He said he's the best shooter he's ever been around. I assume that means guys he's played with our coached.
I love his shooting form and calm personality. A little weight lifting under him and he could be special. Love the defense too.

I did sort of figure he was the one that was going to go off against Pitt. I know it is easy for me to say that now, but it was just his turn.

The more I found about Cline's personality, the more I felt like we got a huge steal with this kid. I always love to hear about players who turn their game up to the next level when people start talking shit to them. Everyone on the team has basically said this about Cline. When you get into his ear, we wants to shove the ball down your throat as often as possible.
The same situation also applies to true road games where the fans are shit talking to no end. Cline seems to be the type of guy who loves to break hearts on the road and shut people up more than do well in front of a home crowd. Cline is probably gonna win us road games we had no business winning in his 4 years for the gold-and-black.
I cannot freaking WAIT to see how Cline will do in environments like ass hall and that one place Mich. St plays in. I see no fear in Mr. Cline. And more so then that, I see cold-blooded killer in those eyes.

I love his hair.....when hits a three and then does the comb over with his fingers thru his hair..."like yes I know I am good."

Love when PJ, Mathias, Cline and Edwards or Stephens are all in the line up.....3 pt dagger could come from anywhere.

This team is special....

Was reading a couple articles and the authors or posters said Cline was "the small white guy who could hit 3's" (or something to that effect).

Ummm......he's like, 6'5? Not too small by most measurements.

heard dakota say cline was the best pure shooter on the team. so there is some nice praise too. kid has the mechanics. No denying that.

Read an article today, no link...but Painter was quoted as saying Cline is the best shooter he has ever seen. I have never heard Paint say this, thoughts?

He's been quoted (and I repeat this loosely) as wanting to recruit the best/one of the best shooter in every class. Hence a Ryne Smith type of offer. Maybe he just means around the midwest and obviously to earn an offer, you have to show some skill.

IMHO, Cline is much better than Smith.

And older article, but....

"Over the summer, Painter said Cline "might be the best shooter I've ever recruited." "

I was too young for Mount, but I remember Steve Reid, Kevin Stallings, Troy Lewis, the Austin brothers, G$, ect...they were pretty good shooters...so, yeah, I think Coach Painter meant the best shooter he's signed...

Edit: I would be remiss not to mention Jaraan Cornell. Before he got hurt, that dude could flat out take over a game...that kid could shoot...

I was watching the endless conversation about Stephan Curry last night. How hard he works on whatever weaknesses he has, and works on extending his shot. I kept thinking, with that dedication added to the foundation that Cline has, why not him?

Curry is on another planet right now......he scored something like 24 straight for GS in the 3rd quarter last night.....ended up with 40 pts on 18 attempts.

It's a cliché most often, but his range is "just about in the gym."

Oh.......and he did it on "Dell Curry Night".........Sorry 'Bout that, Pops!

Absolutely, but he is a skinny mid-size kid with great fundamentals, a killer instinct, and love of the game ..... If he decides to be "Just like Stephen," he has a solid start.

Loved Jaraan's game....he was "smooth" like Moore and probably deadlier from outside (before getting hurt if you can believe that). It was a shame; never really fully recovered from that ankle injury, although he still was a key contributor on those teams.

That game at MSU when they had Shawn Respert...down low to Miller, kicks it out to Cornell for 3....Swish....

The modern high water mark for 3pt % is pushing 45. Everett, Cuonzo, Woody, and Ryne his last two years all were in range. I think Cline can challenge that before his career is over.

That was the game Rafferty made the call, "Get the Feick out of here!" after Jamie Feick had made a block. I remember that game well. Huge game at the time between the 2 top teams.

Todd Foster was a player who fed off of opposing crowds. He did not go down as an all-time great shooter, but he could light it up when the crowd got on him.

does anyone have a pic of Todd Foster jumping on the IU logo at center court.........absolutely bad ass

Jaraan fed off of assists, he seldom disappointed....iu has their Scott May game...Cornell got undercut by an iu player when the game was decided...that was a F4 team if....

Every time I read the thread title I shake my head and say "NO". Maybe the best Painter's ever seen since MP is still a pup but Cline is years away from being the best shooter ever at Purdue. Could he ever be better than Mount? Maybe but Mount was polished offensively when he hit the floor the first time. He also was a sophomore since at that time the brilliant NCAA minds thought you needed a year of college to be seasoned enough to play varsity games so everybody also had a Freshman team.

After Foster did that, the iu cheerleader started running to the center circle at the final buzzer to prevent that from happening again. If I recall, the iu cheerleaders tried to do it last year when PU won in Ass hall and it was like a little brother trying to get in the way of their much larger, stronger brother for the bathroom.

Obviously Foster is one of my favorite players. If he had to he would fight any player, no matter how large. He did rodeo in the offseason. He was one tough SOB.

I've tried finding that pic of Foster doing the stompin'..........but can't find it. I seem to recall that he was really getting into it LOL......like the logo was on fire or something

Huh?

The thread is asking if Cline is the best shooter ever. I'm simply stating a fact that Duncan Robinson is a better shooter. Why are you guys so hostile over here?
Sensitive, aren't you? You know what they say about iu guys. You'll feel better after crean is gone -- maybe.

Words like "best" and "ever" inherently lead to debate unless there is a purely quantitative way to evaluate. Let's say that objective measure is single season 3P% while taking at least 30 3P's in the season. In that case, no, Ryan's not the best ever. Not yet, anyway ;). The current best ever is 50% from Jaraan Cornell in 1998. Second best is 48.5% from Woody Austin in 1990. And third is 47.2% from Chris Lutz in 2007. Three people made the single season top 15 for two different seasons: Cuonzo Martin, Everette Stephens, and Ryne Smith. Of those three, Cuonzo was the best with 44.9% in 1994 and 46.9% in 1995. If you ask me who is the best ever, it is Cuonzo those two years.

What's good enough for me is... Ryan Cline is damn good, and he'll only get better. Every game he gets a little better at defense, not unlike Dakota last year. It says something that we're even talking about him potentially being the best shooter ever. Hope he becomes the best as he matures on the team. Glad he's a Boilemaker. Boiler Up!
