Since Swanigan is widely regarded as the best recruit since GRob.....how do you think Caleb Swanigan will end up as one of the all time elite as compared to Purdue's greatest players since Grob? Here are a few of what I consider Purdue's best players since G'Rob...how do you think Swanigan will stack up by the end of the year?

Rob Hummel
Brian Cardinal
E’Twaun Moore
Chris Kramer
Carl Landry
JaJuan Johnson
AJ Hammons
Brad Miller
Jaraan Cornell
Lew Jackson
David Teague
Others ...I am sure I left out 1-2.

Caleb had a great freshman season, but I think he has a lot of work to do to climb up into that list.....I hope he does that this year.

I think most of those guys are so loved because they were at Purdue for 4 years or longer and really played well as upper classmen. If Caleb stayed all four years, he would really jump up that list really high. I think the only person that left early with GRob.

I'd say Caleb was better, or more productive, his freshman year than most if you compare their numbers, but he probably had more turnovers too. It also came down to the situations, expectations and surrounding teammates they all had at the time.

So, imo, if Caleb leaves after this year, and if he doesn't put up GRob like numbers (no one every will), it will be hard for me to say he was better than guys like Cardinal, Hummel or Miller (or a lot of the guys on this list for that matter).

A few guys I would add to the list are Willie Deane and Kenny Lowe.

All time great no one will ever top: GRob, Wooden, Carroll and Mount....that probably our Rushmore.

The one's you mention I would say if after a great year, he could be in the Cardinal, Miller, Hummel and Hammons range.

If he stays all 4 years he could surpass and possibly get to the Purdue Rushmore level....time will tell.

I know one thing, I am glad he chose Purdue to associate with as a family for life. Proud to call him a Boilermaker for sure, great young man.

Depends - take us to a Final Four and you pass them all.

Yes, for sure he will get his stats.....but how Swanigan is thought of by Purdue faithful overall will be more of how the team does with his help, than him individually by himself.

Players are generally loved when they help the team win something. When I look at last season, I think of Hammons as the key player on the team with others stepping up from game to game to help. I think Swanigan's legacy at Purdue, assuming he leaves after this season, depends largely on what we win this year. If he leads us to a Big Ten title and/or a Final Four, he will skyrocket up the list.

Not as high as he won't be here long enough.

No. John Wooden won a national championship (retroactive) in his senior year. GRob went to a Final Four as well. JBC was the NBA 1st overall draft pick. Rick Mount was... Rick friggin' Mount.

If he takes us to a FF, I would put Swanny in the top 10.

Did I miss a trip to the final four????

WHAT??? You mean Purdue wasn't in the FF after all?

Damn you.....

I think a major one left off is Chad Austin.

In terms of cumulative stats, he wont be close, as I suspect he'll only be here one more year.

In terms of accolades, if he gets at least 3rd team all American, he would match only the following:
Hummel
Moore
Johnson

If he gets first team all b10, he would match the following:
Martin
Austin
Deane
Landry
Hammons

I think the second list is a fitting place for him. i think he jumps everybody in there if we go to a final four.

For the record, cardinal never was even a 3rd team all-b10 performer.

left Russell Cross and Scheffler off the list.

Elite 8 was it for GRob and Keady for that matter. Duke took us out.

I think Cardinal was a 3rd team his Junior year and 2nd team his Senior year. I could be wrong but I'm pretty sure.

The original question was "best players since big dog".

And cardinal did make 2nd team all b10 his senior year.

I think Vince Edwards has more of a chance of going down as one of Purdues all time greats than Swanigan does simply because I think its highly unlike Vince leaves after this year even with a spectacular year due to the fact he isnt really am explosive athlete or extremely skilled in any one are that would lead to him leaving.

Vince reminds me so much of Draymond Green when he was at MSU. They both can do everything well but nothing on an elite level. Both good, not great athletes. Both good leaders. I think Vince has as good a shot as anyone to win B1G PoTY as a senior next season.

and....minus some of his "theatrics" and the poor judgment during last year's NBA Finals, Green is doing very well at the next level despite being "just a 2nd round pick."

Much better pro than I thought he would be. He's still an a$$hat though!!

He is an a$$hat, but that team needs EXACTLY that! They are such a small, finesse, cute, innocent little team. You have pretty little Steph, Klay who is very quiet, KD who is a tall scrawny fella, and then Green who is an enforcer, thick body, gives the team that edge that they desperately needed.

I don't watch much NBA but if I knew someone was going to kick Green in the nads I would tune in! Couldn't stand him in college and can't stand him now. You are right, they don't have a tough team. Pretty soft.

DW, I agree that his energy and edge was a big part of what GS needed, along with his versatile game. He's gotta control the "extracurricular" stuff, though.....that went a long way in costing GS the Finals last season.

He's one of those guys that for most NBA followers if he's on the team you follow, you love em......otherwise, you probably can't stand em.
