Biggie's Scholarship

Any chance to sign anyone for 2017 at this late stage? A few prospects out there remain undeclared.
What do you all think?
Possibly.......

Seems like the new trend this late in the game is to get a young man to reclassify from 2018 to 2017.

IMO I think we are good and should save it for 2018, but if a quality graduate transfer becomes available and fits the family and team concept, I say....no harm no foul and sign him up for a year.

Good position to be in IMO.......

Excited for this next year and beyond.

Where did I put that list of 5th year transfers, JUCO's, and washouts from other schools???

Ask nag or nat.

The center I wanted from cal looks to be headed to Gonzaga

I say bank it! Any impact recruits are all gone now. Unless an amazing player reclassifies himself as 2017 or wants to open his recruitment, I'd say bank it for 2018. A grad transfer would be fine, but I don't see many players still out there worth pursuing.

Illinois guard Coleman lands announced he's transferring today

interesting

Grad transfer guard Mark Alstork announced yesterday that he committed to Illinois. I didn't think there was a scholarship crunch there, but maybe there was one. Anyway, no matter where he goes, Coleman-Lands will have to sit out a year.

Illinois also signed the Illinois Mr. basketball Smith who is also a guard. it appears Lands felt both signings were a snub against him. Could lands finish his degree this Summer, and be considered as a grad transfer and not sit out a year?

Maybe that's possible but I doubt he's graduating after only two years at Illinois. In regards to athletes being able to graduate earlier than most would expect, not every school can be like IU.

I bring up lands name not because I like him or want him. he'd be a terrible fit for Purdue. I bring his name up because he seems like a very late transfer announcement. And this brings up the possibility there may be others who will announce transfer plans.

and this begs the question, if player graduates in the Summer, can they qualify as a grad transfer ?

Yes, I believe they can.

I don't know that he would be a terrible fit but so far in his college career, he's mostly been a three-point shooter and not much else (similar to Kendall Stephens but might be a better defender than Stephens).

Here are at least two grad transfers still available that can contribute:

http://www.espn.com/mens-college-basketball/player/_/id/66591/akoy-agau

http://www.scout.com/college/southe...ing-decision-akoy-agau-sees-a-fit-at-smu?s=24

He injured his knee (I believe?) and missed the second semester that he was to begin playing at Georgetown in 2015-2016, so he was probably working off some of the rust this past season.

Another immediately-eligible player that I noticed is still available is Cameron Johnson (Pittsburgh):

http://www.espn.com/mens-college-basketball/player/_/id/3138196/cameron-Johnson

The interesting thing with him is that he has two seasons of eligibility left (should he choose to play out both of them).

Players eligible to "play right away" want to do exactly that. Put yourself in the position of a graduate transfer looking at this roster; unless you're an extremely productive (all-american potential) player at the PF position, why would you consider Purdue?

The scholarship will be given, on a one-year basis, to a walk-on.

Those are two interesting prospects. it said Agua is seeking an MBA and had narrowed his choices down to 4 schools including Maryland and Illinois. if he's thinking of Illinois, it wouldn't be too hard to sell him on Purdue.

Johnson averaged 11 ppg for pitt last year. He's listed as a 6'8 guard. That could be interesting. not sure what his ball handling skills are like.

Spike chose Purdue knowing he probably wouldn't play much or start. but he thought it would be nice to be on a winning team. I could see a player wanting to come to Purdue just to get their masters at Krannert or Engineering !

You forgot another very important part of Spike's decision in that he wanted to play close to home. Spike was a great fit for Purdue, and Purdue was a great fit for Spike. I don't expect another player like that to pop up at this point, but who knows?

Agau committed to SMU two or three days ago. They had been his favorite for awhile (i.e. when Purdue didn't think it had a scholarship to offer).

I haven't checked today but I think Cam Johnson is still available. I would say that Painter wouldn't want to recruit him because he played under Kevin Stallings this past season, but I think Stallings was an assistant at Purdue before Painter arrived as a player, so maybe they're not as tight as say, CMP and Cuonzo Martin or CMP and Bruce Weber. Therefore, they might reach out to him. Purdue and Vandy had their recent home-and-home series ('14-'15 and '15-'16), so that goes against what Painter has said before about not wanting to play against friends and colleagues if it's possible to avoid a head-to-head matchup.

Besides Cam Johnson ( http://www.espn.com/mens-college-basketball/player/_/id/3138196/cameron-johnson ), another immediately-eligible impact transfer that's still available is Illinois State forward MiKyle McIntosh: http://www.espn.com/mens-college-basketball/player/_/id/66427/mikyle-McIntosh

McIntosh was third in scoring and rebounding for an Illinois State team that went 28-7 overall (17-1 in the MVC; tied for 1st with Wichita State) and narrowly missed out on an NCAA Tournament bid this past season.

My Granddaughter will graduate soon from Edgewood and has been accepted as a direct sophomore admit to the Kelley School of Business(Full Ride).
