Another Swanigan thread...

Candy striped football helmets are the gayest thing in the history of CFB.

Not surprised they are being used by the most terrible football school/team in the history of the Big Ten Conf.

Congrats??

Way to dodge the questions. Congrats on the last place finish this fall in football....again.

Not sure about Edwards at the point, but he would make a great 3 and a pretty good two as well as rotating in at the 4.

I'm not sure about Edwards at the point either, but when thinking through line-ups, assuming Swanigan starts, I keep thinking that Painter would try to get his best 5 on the floor. I then wonder if Edwards is the most capable of converting to point of the top 5 players.

I can see him sliding to the 3, though. Then Davis's defense is needed, so he starts at the 2. And then Dakota slides to point guard with PJ backing him up. Stephens becomes the sixth man and plays starter level minutes and Haas continues to backup Hammons.

The downside to Mathias-Davis-Edwards-Swanigan-Hammons line-up is that it would be pretty slow, but it would be strong, physical, and really tough to handle in the half court.

Twitter chatter between Caleb , Brown and other Cal players indicates to me it is Cal. They go as far as asking him to "decomitt" a few days before he did.

Internet has poisoned recruiting.... And some adults too. I'm into old ford muscle cars. Some guys on those forums think that since they have met some big shot one or twice that they are best friends with the guy.

These kids actually think these other ones are their actual friends ugggg. Hey I'm happy with this outcome anyway it ends at this point.... Msu got messed with hardcore

The new 4 lane SR 25 between Logansport and Lafayette was open before football season last year. It's a very easy drive, much like I 69 North to E.L. If the girlfriend remains in the Fort the drive either way would be about the same imo.

Frankly, since I have no idea what the real story is, I don't really care.

I'm reaching the point where I really don't even want to hear about these recruiting battles until players commit, like it was 20 years ago. When Swanigan has a confirmed decision I want to know and if it's Purdue, great.

One thing I do wonder, however, is what the offense and defense look like if Swanigan does commit. I must admit that I really like Edwards at the 4, but I wonder if Edwards could make the transition to point guard, somewhat like Kelsey Bsrlow.

No, he couldn't. He can handle the ball and pass it, but not near as quick or athletic as Kelsey. He is a good three...

The depth next year will be scary
PG: GW/PJ, Cline
SG: Davis, Stephens, Mathias, Cline
SF: Vince, Basil, Stephens, Mathias
PF: Biggie, Taylor, Basil
C: Hammons, Haas

I'll answer that question for you. Once again our sources are the msu fanbase they were with Dawson and they are with Swanigan. It's hilarious that you guys will not admit to being these sources.

You don't know Rosie doesn't want him at MSU? You guys don't know Rosie is a handler? It's one thing to steer a kid toward a program and it's another to talk them out of where they want to play.
Lets be honest. Rosie knows how all of this works. Obviously there is something no right here. I can't believe Caleb would announce anything without Rosie and him discussing it. Their entire recruiting process has been air tight until the MSU thing and all the noise about Cal. Something just doesn't seen right to me.

Hopefully it's an intentional assault on msu for the Dawson stuff. Really as off base and whacky as that sounds, it's one of a few scenerios I see being legit if pu is his landing spot

I agree that he doesn't have Barlow's athleticism. He has better vision and skills, though. As far as quickness, I compare him to Mathias, Thompson, and Weatherford, since they are the other point guard candidates. I think that Vince is as quick and more athletic than Dakota. Thompson and Weatherford are quicker, but I don't think either are among the top 5-7 players on the team right now.

Edwards may be at a disadvantage at the point defensively, but he would create mismatches at the other end. I tend to agree that he is probably a 3 defensively, but I think he at least takes on a point forward role on offense. I'm actually thinking that Davis may need to guard the point, but his ball handling skills are not strong enough to play point guard on offense.

lol @ you thinking I care about your troll "questions".

Its a legitimate question, granted one you may not want to look in the mirror and answer but I find it funny how much Dawson and Izzo were trashed on here and now you have a handler pushing a recruit to Purdue for once.

From what we heard about the Dawson recruiting from the MSU fans, it was dirty. Maybe even as dirty as the guy at A-Hope directing kids to a certain school and giving them illegal benefits. From what I can tell about the Caleb Swanigan decommit, this was through his own actions and nobody else was involved. Remember, his guardian, Barnes was okay with MSU and signed the LOI to MSU, but Caleb did not.

As far as your initial questing, it was troll bait. Not even well disguised trolling. I agree with Cleanface's response, but decided that the rest of the casual readers of this board would benefit from a direct answer. Perhaps now, you should leave, or join in legitimate discussions on basketball. Stop with the "When did you stop beating your wife?" type questions. In general most of the posters on this board will pick those out in a heartbeat and provide appropriate responses.

"for once". There it is, verification from the stye. However this isn't even a case where a "handler" controlled the destination. Like Mathboy said, Rosie signed the MSU LOI. Swanigan didn't.

If Davis guards the other PG it will be in a containment D as he is not quick enough to provide the pressure Purdue likes. Vince is very skilled and very versatile, but it is his skill and IQ that makes him what he is. Pudue needs a PG that can apply pressure on the D to do what Matt wants and a PG that makes good decisions and lets the game come to him on the O. IN a man press I have no problem with Vince bringing the ball up unless teh other team really goes small and quick and then is it whatever matchup works for Purdue. The combination to pressure vince may be a liability for that team on D under the basket. PG is not a natural spot for anyone on the team except PJ.

And there are recipes for meth. ...Please, some of us here have read books. vbg
Yep, my bad. When I changed from "There's a recipe" to "there are recipes" I should have changed that also. Thanks for watching us. By the way when you use an ellipsis, you should put a space between the three periods and Please. Funny the Purdue Owl says an ellipsis is a form of lazy writing. WTF.

PG is not a natural spot for anyone on the team except PJ.

That's the point. Thompson is the the only natural point, but the question is whether he is ready to start. I hope the answer is yes, but PJ still has a lot to prove. Even if he is the starter, he's not going to be able to apply LewJack like pressure for 40 minutes a game, so unless Weatherford is also ready to step up, Painter is going to need to make some adjustments to play to the strengths of the players on the court.

Actually I believe if Caleb had his preference he would go to California to play with his buddies. MSU was a compromise choice as Rosie wanted him at PU but before anyone sees that Rosie is being manipulative, the reason Caleb came to be with him to begin with was because Caleb's family was having a negative impact on him. Caleb's family is from the west and I suspect that Rosie wants to make sure he stays the very positive course he is on currently. Rosie has the kids best interests at heart and MSU would have been a good choice as would playing for 'Zo in California but for Caleb being a year younger having skipped his junior year to be eligible for next year and being 2,500 miles away might not be a ideal for him. Purdue does make the most sense for Caleb as he won't be playing center but power forward where his future lies.

After reading the SI article I was looking for this old thread I started. I wanted to give kudos to Bill4411, because he absolutely nailed it.

Look 2. No way on earth Rosie looked at a 5'11" 330 lb 8 th grader as a D1 prospect and became his handler. He became his parent, legally and emotionally.
You really need to do some homework before you start slinging negative labels at good people. Unless your just an MSU troll, then by all means keep digging.

What happened to purdue4sure?

OP is trolling. Pretty sure he has loyalties other than Purdue. Suggest we let this whole thread die off
