2026 recruits

I’m usually all in to drink the Kool Aid but I won’t get excited about that back court until I see that at least a couple of those guys are able to excel in a lead role. It could be any one of those four or Benter but someone needs to fill the Carsen/Jaden/Braden alpha role.

I trust in Painter and am optimistic that someone will be able to fill that role, I just have no idea who it will be at this point.
Here is the thing, if one thing we can see from prior tourney winners, you need more than 1 alpha who can run the offense and score.

Ah yes, the dominant alpha pair :) You're right, the model at Purdue has been one all American type but it's possible that you could end up with multiple all conference guys and get the same or better result.

Can’t tell if you’re being sarcastic or not but when it comes to guard play - that is something we have not had more than - single dominate guard. The year we had 2 - Jones + Braden - we made the national title game.

There is something awesome about multiple large, physical guards that can score and run the show.

Not being sarcastic. Not sure that it’s realistic to have two guards at the Braden, JI, Carsen level but I agree that having two really good guards could be as or more impactful than one all-world guard. Folks here will laugh but we could have that this year if Fletch makes a jump.

Look like a package deal to be in a movie with Sandra Bullock.
So Sandra lives in and around Arlington VA…
Just saw the 3 girls and the father Steven Reynolds Jr will all be at University of Texas , Arlington. LOL It mentions nothing about Steven III, the son and his plans for college basketball …

The Dad was hired as assistant and that was requirement for where they transferred apparently....

For the Brother I think that ship has officially sailed. With Ertel looking good and Meyer, not sure a combo is as big of priority for '26.
Yeah the article was weird that they don’t have much of an idea what he will do. There are plenty of solid high schools across the DFW metro so would depend where they are living. Also, wouldn’t be surprised to see him go prep-school.

Said it earlier, the fact he is as highly rated, yet doesn’t have other power conference offers, makes me wonder what’s going on. Something doesn’t pass the smell test here.

Maybe I’m wrong but agreeing with most, we have a lot of talent in our backcourt so maybe “missing” isn’t too bad.

I would think that Purdue would be an extremely attractive target for quality 4s and especially 5s, given the number of young quality guards that Painter has on the roster or committed and the track record of Purdue developing and featuring big men.

It’ll be interesting to see how Painter recruits Reynolds going forward assuming he moves away with his family. I think Painters recruited him way too hard to this point just to pull the plug because his family moved away but you never know Painter may back off now that he got Mayers to commit!? Reynolds is a heck of player but it looks like dad likes to run the show so who knows where his recruitment goes from here. Hopefully his dad and sisters don’t ruin his recruitment!

All 7 kids have moved to Texas…they are trying to determine where Steve will attend school (prep or in state) by how he does this summer.

Was about to have 3 sisters here.
I saw this coming it's our new/old world. So, Steve the dad resigns from his HS job then takes his 3 daughters to the transfer portal and converts them to an assistant coaching job with Sharika Wright at University of Texas Arlington. Moving the whole family to Texas until he can cash in on SR3. I don't even begrudge him for making the most of his opportunity to cash in. It's all about the money! We as fans have to adjust. The rumor I believe is Bobinski is heavily involved in the women's BB program and the portal is how he plans to rebuild it. Let's hope they can, or IMO Katie will be gone. Are we out on SR3?

Or Gicarri, or Mayer. I think Fletch is most likely, but it wouldn’t be shocking to see any of those guys make a big jump or OM come in and light it up.
I almost typed the "or Gicarri" part but I think CJ showed a little more "magic" with the steals and dagger 3's. High high hopes for both. I haven't seen any real video of Mayer so i'm trying not to buy into the large amount of hype around this signing. No D is no D and REAL D is going to be an eye opener. But if he's got the skills.....

Should we care? Isn't she part of the problem? The sliding down the Big 10. The mass exodus of players....
Excuse my ignorance if its otherwise, I've not paid much attention lately as they've dropped out of any significance in the press.

Steve seems like a really awesome player, but does Purdue really need another guard? We already have west, Ertel Harris and Mayer. Fighting for future playing time

Anthony Thompson would be a great addition…he has a good head on his shoulders…obviously outstanding player. My best friend’s son is his best friend.
You should encourage your son to wear a Purdue shirt and hand out with Mr. Thompson.

Saw this because I felt like we had a kid in 2026 class from Pickerington that we were looking at….the tweet is from a 2027 kid

Seems to me PJ is on the recruiting trail every day. I had a dad tell me seeing PJ's star status reminds him of when Frank Kendrick would enter a gym. Really likeable guy by all accounts. And surprisingly noticeable especially for an assistant. Not a guy you would want to recruit against IMO. And not just Indiana.

I think it will take a lot bigger financial investment to drastically improve the women’s program.

And it’s a money losing sport… how much money do we want to lose to be competitive in women’s hoops, when that same money could be invested in a profitable business like football or men’s hoops?

A little bit on Kinney.

Other than money, I’m still a bit confused why a player like him would want to play for pope?

He hasn’t developed anyone to the nba. He just got to the second weekend for the first time in his career and hasn’t won a conference title or tourney…does he have any guys that turned into All Americans?

Imagine the backcourt his sophomore year with seniors Cox and Harris, potentially West and Mayer as juniors. Yikes, that is some firepower in the backcourt the next 2-5 years.

My very unprofessional opinion is Mayer is a 2 and done kid. he has the size and passing skills for an NBA PG, if he gets the handles too, with the coaching we know Painter will give the kid, I think its hard to pass up going to the NBA after one year of being the main pg for the team. I know we think of Painter as a big man developer, but both Braden and Carsen Edwards came out of nowhere to become top PG or combo guards.

Just think what Painter will do with a talent like Mayer.

I am obviously a bit over excited for Mayer, just cant believe we got this kid, he will be fun. But my man crush on Painter keeps growing, lol

Colben Landrew came in at No. 84 in the most recent 2026 On3 150 update. The 6-foot-6 wing at Marietta (GA) Wheeler High earned Georgia Class 6A Player of the Year honors this season. He scored 19 points and grabbed 8 rebounds in the state championship win.
“I play with a good pace, kind of like a Paul George,” Landrew told On3. “I make good reads, and I don’t get sped up. I like to watch George and Desmond Bane, I like their games; they make shots and don’t get sped up.”

Landrew, a former wide receiver, claimed football offers from Ole Miss, Florida, Louisville, Arkansas, and more. When he transferred this high school season to Wheeler, Landrew put down the football and decided to focus only on basketball.
“Since I’ve been done with football and focused on basketball, I’ve been in the gym working on my body,” Landrew said. “I’m eating differently and I’m on the Vertimax every day, working on my athleticism.”

“I’ve only taken one official visit so far, and that was to Ole Miss,” Landrew said. “I’m talking about visits right now with schools like Georgia, Purdue, Mississippi State, Auburn, and a couple others.”

PURDUE: “They started recruiting me last year. They came to one of my live period games, and we have a great relationship. Ever since then, they’ve been talking with me and recruiting me heavily, even before they officially offered me. They let their guards play a little bit, get some shots for the wings, and he (Matt Painter) will kind of let them play a little bit.”

#14 player overall, and #4 point guard? The 2026 class must be loaded with point guards if they make up 4 of the top 14 players.
#’s 2,5,13,14 and 16 are PG’s. I don’t have any inside info but from reading other sites it sounded like Kinney would have been a stretch, even before signing Meyer.

My understanding is that Kinney is truly an elite player, not just an elite prospect, it will be interesting to see if Painter ever becomes willing to pony up big $ for a high schools player if he sees them being an AA as a freshman or sophomore.

Not sure what you are referring to about other sites as I’ve not seen them, but from what I’ve seen he really has seemed to like Purdue and Painters tendency to feature top players. He would most likely be a top 3 player at Purdue and I believe he would come in and compete with Mayer. Maybe the two off them could form a good tandem like Smith and Loyer? I don’t believe we’re out of the running on him yet. I’m curious to watch this play out. You never know…
