Purdue women's basketball Final Thoughts: Purdue's win over Nebraska

A few final musings from Purdue's 92-65 win over Nebraska, because I know how you like musings.

• Purdue's trending really well and I see no reason they can't win that Illinois game on Monday. Not saying they will, but Purdue's in much better place right now than it seemed to be a week ago and that Wisconsin game is looking like a lot more like a kick in the (hindquarters) than it is a kick in the ... well, figure it out.

• Nebraska's awful, but that's not a terrible offensive team and I think Jaden Ivey's defensive performance and Zach Edey's dominance should be framed by the fact that Bryce McGowens and Derrick Walker are legit good. This wasn't cosmetic, I don't think.

• This game was the first seven minutes. You could have stopped it right there and the story wouldn't be all that different.

• Purdue keeps this up defensively — just being solid and connected and engaged more than anything — they're gonna be in the hunt for the Big Ten title in a few weeks and playing for a No. 1 seed again.

• Caleb Furst looked like November Caleb Furst tonight and that was a really good thing for Purdue.

• This was Eric Hunter's best game of the season thus far. Obviously not all the highest-leverage moments, but he was real good.

• Purdue scored 92 points and Sasha Stefanovic and Isaiah Thompson were 1-of-13 from three. Let that settle a bit.

• That play where a Nebraska guy ran into Jaden Ivey, or vice versa, and Ivey turned the ball over, that's a call Ivey gets IMO if the fouls weren't so one-sided as it was. That was his only turnover of the game.

Ivey was fortunate to not get T'd up for his reaction.

• Mason Gillis' ability to make shots isn't just a dimension for Purdue at this point. It's legit part of their offense. He's a weapon, same as the post is a weapon, same as Sasha Stefanovic is a weapon and same as Jaden Ivey's everything is a weapon. Not the same extent but a weapon nonetheless. He is shooting like a shooter and not just a grinder who can make shots.

It would be nice heading into some of these heavier games if Purdue could get in a little more of a rhythm at the foul line.

• Sorry this is taking me a while, but I'm distracted by the Bob Saget roast on Comedy Central. Shouldn't have turned the TV on, but RIP Bob Saget, Norm McDonald, Alan Thicke, Cloris Leachman and Aunt Becky (not actually dead).

Anyway ...

Thanks for reading, everyone, and have a good night.

Anyone live in the L.A. area?

Is L.A. becoming a sh**hole or is the media just exaggerating?

Like how this team is improving

Obviously defensive effort was good last night. In addition to the effort, we were much much active with our hands on the ball and in the passing lanes. We are making passes more difficult and getting deflections. This resulted in several forced turnovers. I thought Zach was good on D last night. He was staying big and made them shoot over him without fouling. He caused a couple travels in the first half just being big. I thought we were better not over helping and giving up wide open threes as well.

On offense we only had 4 turnovers until about mid way in the second half from there we got a little sloppy. It seemed to me the IT and Sasha had trouble getting their footwork correct and getting in rhythm when shooting threes. They seemed a bit hurried. The biggest improvement I saw was Ivey playing "off two feet". He hit a couple pull up mid range shots and had 5 assists, and got to the line 6 times. Very much in control. I believe by him being in control shooters were move ready to shoot and he was able to make better passes. The result 5 assists.

Also, Eric Hunter seemed very comfortable and confident in his role last night. Very good game from him last

if we can continue this type of game to game practice to practice improvement, I like our chances in March. Keep building. Boiler up

Hobbies, interests, etc. of yours

Stole this thread topic from another forum I use to frequent a couple of years ago. With it being pretty dead on the Purdue-front this time of year, I thought it'd be interesting to hear what users in here are into, or keeping their attention when not working.

Could literally entail anything you're doing, or have come across. Movies, books, shows, music, podcasts, apps, beers, games, cooking, whatever. Doesn't even have to be something recent, but anything you've been into awhile. I can kick it off..

-Started reading 'Astroball' by Ben Reiter. Been following baseball a lot more this year and I've tried to pair some reading with it. Started Keith Law's "Smart Baseball" which got hard to read immediately. I respect him for how intelligent he is, but he really never lets up coming off as a prick, and a guy who never is, or has been, wrong.

-Catch 22 on Hulu. World War II dark-comedy. The banter between the characters is great. Really good cast. First series I've ever watched on Hulu.

-Sam Adam's Summer Ale.
