Paralympics Sitting VB

Stumbled across this sport last week scrolling through Peacock. USA womens team won the Gold medal today beating China 3-1. They won Gold also in Rio and Tokyo, making this their 3rd straight Gold - all vs China, who had won in 2008 and 2012.
Very interesting dynamics to this sport - I really enjoyed watching. Of course the US win made it all the better. The ladies played with such high energy and joy.

The court is much smaller, net is only about 4 feet high and it is “legal” to block a serve. Otherwise the rules seemed similar to conventional VB. Most players were amputees (single leg) and a couple with arm issues.

I found myself really engaged in watching/following. Replays available on Peacock if you have it. Amazing players - great win today.

Purdue WVB sweeps 4-0 Utah on the Utes’ home court

The Boilers trailed much of the first set and found themselves on the edge of defeat 20-24. But they fought off 4 straight set points and finally won the set 29-27. That seemed to take some of the fight out of the Utes and Purdue won the second and third sets 25-20 and 25-13 respectively.

Hudson was magnificent and Chicoine seemed no worse for wear despite her tweaked knee in yesterday’s game. I could not get the stats to come up but by my count they only had 5 service errors compared to 10 last night against Cal (in 4 sets.)

The athletic department’s links have sucked so far this year as the broadcast stream was off/on all night and the “live stats” link never worked. ESPN+ had two Utah women announcers working and I thought they were very fair and very good.

Utah drew a crowd but it was far from what I anticipated and many of the 15,000 seats were empty. Tonight the Boilerss travels to the Utah State campus for tomorrow’s game.

Harris wants to hand out $1.25T to small businesses

So $50k for what she expects to be 25MM new start ups.

So $50,000 x 25,000,000 = $1.25T

That won’t cause ANY inflation. 😉. (BTW, that’s a new business for every 15 people alive in the US…not workers…ALIVE. If only working age are included it’s 1 business for every 10 workers…🤔).

🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡

I will be starting up my new business…and maybe 10-15 others.😉

Earn $50k stop and start a 2nd business, then a 3rd.

Purdue football Max Klare finds end zone, and new level in 2024

Max Klare couldn’t quite remember his last touchdown in a game. That was nearly three years ago, dating back to his St. Xavier days.

The Purdue tight end got back in the end zone on Saturday, something we could say a lot this fall.

Question about NIL

How does it work from the university's end? For example, say Kentucky wanted Braden Smith, do they just reach out to him? Or does the player have to advertise that his services are for sale? And, concurrently, are there any restrictions anymore on if/what/how much of a course load a player carries? Or is the player just there for the money?
I am very indifferent, therefore ignorant of NIL, as it seems indifferent to what is best for the "student-athlete". And, like most posters over 40, I certainly don't agree with it. (Sorry Wole).

WVB defeats 3-0 Cal 3 sets to 1

Two of the four sets were very competitive with scores of 29-27, 25-12, 18-25 and 25-23. The first and last set were very tense but we dominated them in the second and they us in the third. The worst thing about the 3rd set was that Chicoine injured her knee and was limping around but after a few minutes being examined she insisted on staying in and was instrumental in the 4th (Match) set.

Scoring was very evenly distributed with Colvin, Hudson, Wollard and Chicoine having 16, 14, 11 and 10 kills respectively. Purdue continues to hurt itself with service errorss having 10 compared to 5 for Cal. That would be somewhat acceptable if we were getting a lot of ace serves but we had only 1 more than Cal (6 to 5). Blocks were also close with 11 compared to Cal’s 10. We won with a hitting % of 0.235 vs 0.142 for the Golden Bears.

We have been pretty lucky so far but the competition gets harder and we will have to play better to maintain or improve our ranking.. I thought our passing was pretty good but serve/receive must improve.

This week’s games are on ESPN+ with only the public address announcing. I was listening to Purdue’s radio broadcast but that stream stopped working half way thru the game. (happens alot).

Women's BB Recruiting?

I have recently met our Purdue Women's BB coach and she was a great player for Purdue years ago. Her desire to win at Purdue was obvious to me. I do not intend this post to be any criticism of her coaching ability. IU Women's BB coach has and is still recruiting some of the best women players in the nation. Does anybody feel Purdue will ever recruit those type of players they used to recruit several years ago? In 1999, Purdue Ladies were National Champs and in 2001 we were Runners Up National Champs. BOILER UP!
