ILLINOIS / MSU tomorrow

I'm torn on this one. I think Illinois is the real deal, so another loss for them would be good. But, if MSU beats Illinois, then maybe MSU is the real deal.
I see it and agree. I think this is just a sit back with the popcorn and watch a good game kind of experience.

I see Purdue, MSU, Illinois and Michigan as being the only real title contenders left. Going to be fun watching two of them battle.

ILLINOIS / MSU tomorrow

Big game tomorrow morning. Illinois @ MSU, 12 ET

I don't normally root for Illinois but it would setup one hell of a game in March when we travel to Champaign to close out the season.

It would also put Purdue in the conference lead position.

Michigan plays tomorrow too...

Only an ABSOLUTE Bad-Azz Team

Like I said elsewhere....ref working OT to keep the Ducks a float. It was like they had a vested interest in the game. Just let alot of Duck fouls go uncalled, and turned around and called ghost fouls on Purdue. Hard to watch.

But it's a Road win.....love it
They say they don’t , but refs count fouls.
we could never really pull away from them, I think we caught a break w/ Ducks settling for outside shots instead of attacking the basket like they did in the first half
their coach agreed with you on too many threes.

Colvin and Heide yikes

Well maybe I focused too much on the turnover he had late in the game. And yes I expect more offensively from him that we’ve seen lately. Maybe not every game, but show some flashes in every few games at least.
He has shown flashes. Don’t let one bad play ruin how well he played on defense the whole game.

Colvin and Heide yikes

Do you expect him to score 10+? Him
And heides roles are to score a bit but mostly rebound and play defense. Myles was great today on shelstead and rebounded well. Heide was good on offense…they both played their roles very well.

If we get a combined 8-12 points, 6-10 rebounds and 1-3 steals from these 2 a night, then that puts us in a great position to win. And if they do more, well I really like our chances.

Myles was a 🔒 ⬇️ defender on shelstead today. He played his role beautifully. Just like Harris and cox. You worried about cox? Prob not. His role is to help Braden handle it a bit and guard their best guard. And if he heats up then it’s a plus and we are absolutely tough to beat.

3rd SOS too.

Furst has transformed the defense. He can switch out on any player and stay with them. Gives more rebounding and size down low as well. Cox is a good defender too. Everyone is playing much better defensively and I love the all switching defense which is a FIRST under painter and something I have wanted for a long time.

As ma y are aware from past tirades I LOATH the drop coverage with ball defender trailing ball handler on PnRs. I absolutely despise it. As a former player I wanted defenses to play me exactly like that so I have never understood doing it.

So glad we changed
“As a former player”…at what level may I ask?

Purdue at Washington

Final 87-58 Washington.

17 points for Lombard, 15 points for Collier, 8 for Layden, 7 for Puryear and Poole.

Poole needs to start and play as much as she can handle. You could see her getting better the longer she was in.

Layden led the team with 7 rebounds, Puryear was 2nd with 3.

Swanson held out for illness.

McCarthy only played a little for whatever reason.
Reynolds looks terrible, I mean, she’s a redshirt Frosh, maybe she’ll get better, not sure how much though. Play the youngsters, likely a 2-4 win Big Ten team.

Smitty had four more steals today.....lately he's getting them primarily with the back-side double near the block/baseline and reading the skip/cross-court and intercepting.

Boilers were also really good on the glass today - offensive boards really helped keep them in touch in the first half with the frigid shooting.
Outrebounded em!

Smith has been great defensively. And the whole team since the lineup change:

Points given up:

Minny: 61
Northwestern: 61
Rutgers: 50
Nebraska: 68 (but we scored 104)
Washington: 58
Oregon: 58

Purdue at Oregon: MASTER DISCUSSION THREAD

Cam Heide was definitely more confident/engaged today - chipped in big with 9 points and 4 boards. Myles Colvin looked a little frustrated at times, but he had some good moments on defense......got taken out with some nickel/dimers to me, and the and-one with Bittle was ridiculous as DJ was out of position (yeah - I sound like Shooter I know.... :) )

Harris was definitely pumped up and confident to be out there in crunch time and he delivered in his role big time. He can also embrace the physicality unlike most freshman. Very good gut-check back alley brawl win for the Boilers.

My exact thoughts on the brawl.
