Layup drill. Can't imagine the actual count. Jacobson the worst, by considerable margin. Totally lost back door. Lets hope first game blahs.
Biggest concern: Nobody looked noticeably better than last season.( Ok, yes Braden scored a lot
One game, doesn't mean much.
Unless it continues.
What game were you watching? Cuz I dont think we were watching the same one…

Box Score Interesting

Well coach seems to think berg is and that’s what i observed last night too. Berg played good defense and then DJ was a turnstile.
You must have been watching a different game. Berg only played 9 minutes and had 4 fouls0 rebounds and 2 points. DJ played 18 minutes had 5 boards and 7 points. It’s not even close who is better. Not to mention berg has had 2 years in the program.

I question the statement that the coaching staff didn’t scout Creighton. I don’t believe you give our coaching staff enough credit for what they do and how much they prepare our team.

Something nobody else has said, Creighton scouted Purdue just as little as we scouted them. Creighton prepared just as much as Purdue did.

Creighton is a good team. Last year, Marquette was a good early test.

In the past, Painter played preseason games with the focus on winning rather than evaluating and developing younger talent. I believe what you saw today will be a close reflection of what to expect in the real season.

Players earn playing time in practice. It appears certain players will have to step up their play in practice if they want to earn more actual game playing time.

It was said that Harris played great defense in high school. It appears the national analysts were accurate in their assessment. It has also been said by many that the key to playing time on a Painter team is the willingness and ability to play defense. Adding those two together, I would speculate Harris will be the player to replace Jones. At this time, Purdue doesn’t really need Harris for his offense. That will pick up down the road.

Cox kind of surprised me. I’ve read a lot of good things on this forum about him. Is it possible he could become our 3rd or 4th best guard?
Did their coach say they didn’t scout Purdue? I have no idea

Painter literally said they didnt scout them or talk about it…
And literally said he wasn’t trying to win this game rather experiment with different line ups. Also not everyone would play…seems more related to Heide/Colvin….who knows. Don’t think anyone can read into much on this game in terms of line ups and/or playing time.

I Love Michigan!

Michigan is awesome. There's not a more respectable program in the nation than the Wolverines. I loved when they sent assistant coaches to watch and record opposing teams. What's more innovative than dressing your assistant as a coach for another team to get on the field and record the opponent's signals? GENIUS! And what about #20 kicking a guy repeatedly on the ground after the game tonight? It's the epitome of class. I hope their NIL folks buy that guy a car, because he's a true Michigan man.
Michigan State is so appalled by Michigan that they beat a few of them up in a hallway after last year's game (or year before).

I've been waiting for someone to suggest Mel Tucker as our next coach.

Purdue at Creighton (Exhibition) MASTER DISCUSSION THREAD

How much did Kalk defend TKR?
He guarded him maybe half a dozen times, IIRC. TKR had a couple nice hooks and a jump shot. Later in the game, Kalk seemed to anticipate TKR's moves a little better and bothered a couple shots. Mind you, we're talking about one of the best shot blockers in the NCAA. So all in all? Not bad.

Purdue at Creighton (Exhibition) MASTER DISCUSSION THREAD

Currently if based on ability to hold ground on defense the order is 1. Berg 2. Burgess 3. Jacobsen (r/t shot blocking only reason he’s 3 not 4) 4. Furst

Jacobsen just needs to bulk up and time/experience at this level. Likely to eventually be the best
I say Butgess is number 1 right now, Berg too slow athletically and in processing and that can’t be learned.

FWIW, Illinois didn't fare too well against Ole Miss in their exhibition today. At one point in 2H they were down 26. Again, it is just an exhibition and we can't infer too much about these games. But... at least we kept our L to single digits.

For those interested in seeing the writeup:
Their effort on the defensive side was atrocious. They weren’t in sync on either sides of the ball. I’m sure they will gel eventually but who knows when. Boswell was bad. KJ looks decent. DGL was better this year and better than Boswell IMO, nothing special but def better than Boswell. Bigs were meh.
