Yeah, it was bad. I don't know if they were going 50% because it was a scrimmage, but that was one of the worst D I've seen from a Painter team.No D tonight.
I thought we had great defense from our guards and TKR. Cox and Harris were excellent on D for their first game. Struggled against screens and back door cuts. Creighton shot lights out and made some circus 3s.No D tonight.
I don’t think the D was as bad as the results. We need to work through screens better, work on switches, and block out on the back door cuts. This was good practice for us. What I was pleased about was they had some quick guards and generally didn’t feel like we got beat going to basket often
Bruh, Creighton was on fire. I know they said pops Isaacs was a 29% 3 pt shooter but he can fill it up in the next past from watching him. Creightons defense wasn’t that good…we just missed open shots. To be down 5 at half after that barrage they had, was quite encouraging. We were within 5 and had a chance in the game. We need to clean some things up…but def need the 5 spot to be better (weird thing to say after the last 6 years 😂)

I saw good D from frosh Cox & Harris.
But up front the D underneath is woeful. Alot of coaching to do there.
Yep. TK wasn’t bad, but DJ and Berg got taken to school by the best big in ncaa. Great learning experience
This. Aside from the 4th best scorer from big 12 last year, big east preseason player of year, and one of best 3 shooting PGs we will face everyone else on creighton was generally held in check. Only disappointment was kings back door cuts.
Our big 3 looked great and unstoppable on offense. I liked that the Frosh weren’t rattled and that the team battled back. Great test and hope the first few games can get us ready for BAAAAMA
Yes if CMP had Kalk - he definitely would be AA and in competition for player of the year with Braden 😃
Heck he might be AA anyway if McDermott wakes up.
Couldn't handle him. But also the backdoor cuts & PnR made us look like a high school team at times.

Im not sure Kalk will get enough opportunities to score to be an AA…if that makes sense? Like I agree he is for sure an AA type player but they need to feed him. And maybe they will…but im not sure who is better than him in college bball at the 5
You have to remember that they went into the game without any scouting. So all of the D was based on in the moment adjustments. Not surprising that it didn't look great. A lot of young guys, so I think we'll see good progression bas the season goes on
I told my daughter I hate playing cupcakes, but i also hate playing a ranked team with the best big this early , because people are so judgemental off of our bigs just starting to get experience , over a pretty experienced big on Creighton! People come on the forums and DOOM our team over stuff that is being worked out as we speak.

It was great experience and you know paint and staff will help the guys learn from it. Great measuring stick for Berg, DJ and Burgess to see where they are at right now and how much better they need to get. Couple tune up games before Bama, so hope we can get ready for that in time and compete!
This game does not count! But facing defeat in life is great motivator and learning experience. Purdue is one really young team, but you got to like the way the youth playied on the road against one of the best teams in the country! We lost Arkansas last year in exhibition and they did not even make the tournament. Creighton can shoot ( a lot like Michigan) and Purdue will get better from this.
Creighton ended last year at #9 in ORtg and is preseason #3 in that metric. And they were 3rd in eFG%. That was an elite offense we played last night, likely better than any other we will face this season outside of Alabama.
Yes, even though that offense had departures for NBA, they picked up guys that kept them an elite offense last night.
I actually think if they were more post centric, they might even be better than what they are in the coming year.

Didn’t see the game but saw highlights on box score. Out of anything that causes alarm, limited minutes for Colvin/Heide. Not reading into it but something that I found curious.

Yeah Heide and Colvin not playing much was interesting. Not sure if they was by design or not

Now if we are in late December and their minutes are limited - then maybe there will be questions.
I would love to see a table of all the lineup combos we ran yesterday. I think Joe Jackson on Twitter might have one.
I question the statement that the coaching staff didn’t scout Creighton. I don’t believe you give our coaching staff enough credit for what they do and how much they prepare our team.
Something nobody else has said, Creighton scouted Purdue just as little as we scouted them. Creighton prepared just as much as Purdue did.
Creighton is a good team. Last year, Marquette was a good early test.
In the past, Painter played preseason games with the focus on winning rather than evaluating and developing younger talent. I believe what you saw today will be a close reflection of what to expect in the real season.
Players earn playing time in practice. It appears certain players will have to step up their play in practice if they want to earn more actual game playing time.
It was said that Harris played great defense in high school. It appears the national analysts were accurate in their assessment. It has also been said by many that the key to playing time on a Painter team is the willingness and ability to play defense. Adding those two together, I would speculate Harris will be the player to replace Jones. At this time, Purdue doesn’t really need Harris for his offense. That will pick up down the road.

Situationally....Is the best team we can put out there 4 guards and TKR when situations don't have monsters @ both the 4-5. Our guards rebound very well and CJ & Harris would be a handful on whomever even if down an inch or 2.
Might give up a ton @ the 4, but make up for it on the other end with quickness.

FWIW, Illinois didn't fare too well against Ole Miss in their exhibition today. At one point in 2H they were down 26. Again, it is just an exhibition and we can't infer too much about these games. But... at least we kept our L to single digits.

Their effort on the defensive side was atrocious. They weren’t in sync on either sides of the ball. I’m sure they will gel eventually but who knows when. Boswell was bad. KJ looks decent. And literally said he wasn’t trying to win this game rather experiment with different line ups. Also not everyone would play…seems more related to Heide/Colvin….who knows. Don’t think anyone can read into much on this game in terms of line ups and/or playing time.
