Luke Ertel 2026

Someone asked me recently about Luke. I have watched only 2 HS games mainly due to early commits who aren't really committed and because you have to pay for his home games online. Here is what I know Mt. Vernon is ranked 2nd in class 4A they are 8-1 having got completely blown out at home by #1 Fishers. Luke leads his team in every category except blocked shots and FG% he only shoots 56% LOL, 18.7 points per, 6.7 rebounds, steals 1.9, free throws 88%, 3pt percentage 50% which is even more impressive considering he is always double teamed, assist 35 total in nine games, rebounds 60 considering he is a 6'1 combo guard impressive. These are Braden Smith number in HS. I said I only watched 2 HS games, but I have seen countless Indiana Elite games. I can 100% tell you Painter mentioned Braden more than once in recruiting him. For me I cannot help but compare him to Mr. Smith. He isn't the passer, but he pretty much checks all the other Smith boxes for me. Much like Smith he is a smart player who will exploit any and all weakness you may have. Unlike Smith Luke looks to score first and pass second. This maybe because he shoots 56% and his teammates know it. I view him as a second ball handler not a PG only because he is so offensive minded. And because I really like Antione West JR as the future PG. His pressure on the ball and attacking the basket are " Slightly" better. West looks to pass much, much more often than any recruit I can recall. I don't know how, but Whitmer has a 6-3 record. I will watch them again tonight if I can stomach watching that #3 mess up over and over. IMO they are not a good team. Mt Vernon on the other hand isn't as good as their loft ranking; they have Luke and not much else. I would sum up Luke by saying he is a hybrid Smith/Loyer he shoots like Fletch and manages the game like Smith. We got a good one here. And before you beat me up for ever daring to compare anyone to a generational player like Smith, I will just say you're right.
that was me who asked you about Luke. Thank you for your insights and response.

Still ranked 20th

Agree. That must have been some big time home cooking dior when they beat Illinois. They are not good. They have 2 complementary players in Martinelli & Barnhizer that would be good as supplemental scorer types on this team. But their guards are just so-so.

Now that Angelo Ciaravino kid looks super athletic and holds promise for NW. As a frosh, one to watch.
I was floored when I heard that Martinelli averages over 20 a game. He looks and sorta plays like a guy you’d see at the CoRec.

Still ranked 20th

I'm not sure I've seen a less athletic team that what NU has on the floor. Reminds me of some of the Wis and Iowa teams from years ago.

I come to bury the playoffs, not to praise them

Ohio State still wouldnt be above Notre Dame. OSU finished ranked behind ND. That's the good thing about the 12. That's what would have been even better about the 16. You would have had a bracket of(without auto seeds for conference champs)

1. Oregon vs 16. Clemson
8. Indiana vs 9. Boise State
5. Notre Dame vs 12. Arizona State
4. Penn State vs 13. Miami

6. Ohio State vs 11. Alabama
3. Texas vs 14. Ole Miss
7. Tennessee vs 10. SMU
2. Georgia vs 15. South Carolina
OSU was 6th if you want to use the rankings so Indiana would get left out over OSU.

Dylan Harper

It's no secret that Rutgers is a completely different team when Dylan Harper plays. Apparently since his triple double against Columbia on Dec 30, he's been dealing with a serious illness. He missed the entire game against IU. Last night against Wisconsin he played only 15 min, and just didn't look like himself.

Will he be ready for Thursday's game? I hope not, but I'm fully expecting him to be hotter than a grease fire at a Mexican restaurant. After all, why would he miss Rutger's super bowl?

Very Busy Rebuilding the Football Roster

Which 4 or 5 returning guys do you feel confident in starting next year? Generally curious as I think your estimate is on point.
Offense: Vixon-Deal WR
Morrisette WR
Mockabee; RB (maybe.....depends on what we get from the portal)
I think we only have 1 starting OL back, maybe not

Defense:
Breedlove: DB
Omonode: DL
It's possible we have 10 new starters on D.

But...I will say, there's an opportunity to upgrade the talent at every position. But, something tells me is wasn't all a lack of talent, the coaching had a lot to do with the disaster last year.

We need.......................

But ask yourself: what is the biggest jump MC and CH need to make from a development standpoint and do you expect to see that in the next 3 months?
These guys have both played about 50 college games, so they've seen it all.

This is why Painter is tinkering with the starting lineup. He got the productions from CH and MC for a game or two but then it went away.
To say that Cam and Myles have seen it all is inaccurate, IMO. I think Cam has played more than 20 minutes something like 8 times in his career and Myles has about the same. In the vast majority of games last year each played fewer than 15 minutes. I'm not advocating for more minutes at this point, particularly if they're not shooting well, but both are pretty green from a development standpoint.

I don't expect either to develop into a 'go-to' scorer or primary ball handler, although Myles did show last year that he could get his own shot on pull-ups. They need to hit open shots and continue to improve in their execution of team defense.

Cam has been in the program for what, 3 years now, and he still hasn't developed his ball handling skills to the point where he's confident using it in a game with any consistency. I know ball handling is tough and takes years of work to develop, but if they haven't done it by now, not sure they will.
There's nothing wrong with having 6'5-6'6 guys who can jump and shoot like MC and CH, it's just that their lack of ball handling does hold this teams offense back some.
Yep. I think you can get away with one guy on the floor like that but not two. I know some will say we have three but Loyer is a better ballhandler than some give credit. He's not breaking guys down off the dribble but if he gets a step, he can at least get to the rim and draw fouls or finish thru contact. I haven't even seen that from Colvin or Heide. The only time they get to the rim off the dribble in the halfcourt is if there is a complete breakdown defensively.

Nah in ur scenario Ohio St would still be above ND and the SEC/Big Ten wouldn't approve of that system either.

In the future the SEC/Big Ten will have all the power and the rest will just have to agree or get left out all together. They aren't needed. The SEC and Big Ten can create their own cfb division if they want. The rest are a lower tier already.

My Weekly CBB Top 25

Ole Miss beat Georgia at home, Purdue beat Ole Miss on a neutral court! Oregon has two home losses, one by 32 and yet they are 13th? Illinois lost to Alabama by 13 and yet Purdue beat Alabama by 9? Illinois lost to Northwestern by 4 and Purdue rolled NW? But no Purdue, even Michigan and UCLA who both have Quad 2 losses make your top 25? And Vanderbilt who has played the 341st rated schedule made your poll, of course they got 1 vote in the AP. Whats the only team in college ball that has played 4 top ten teams, Purdue, sure they lost to Auburn and Marquette by 18(road) and Texas A&M by 4, but they did beat Alabama by 9 and OLE Miss. But Oregon can get drilled at home and stay in the top 15?????? West Virginia makes your top 10, lost by 24 to Pitt, and 9 to a bad Louisville team? Your throwing darts and your really bad it!
Yes. He posts this for what they call “rage bait”
