Maybe the 64-66 record isn't impressive, but Martin has taken the Redhawks to five bowl games and has recruited Indiana well. Prior to making the jump to FBS, Martin succeeded Brian Kelly at Division II Grand Valley State, where he went 74-7 in six seasons and made three appearances in the NCAA Division II national championship game, winning twice. That earned him a job on Kelly's staff at Notre Dame, where he eventually became offensive coordinator before taking the Miami job in 2014.

If you can go 74 and 7 at GVS which is a bonified football powerhouse, and five bowl games at Miami of Ohio, along with knowing the recruits in the Midwest, he might be a solid choice. And he's' only making 600K at Miami.

Bo says he'll name the next coach in the next ten days.

I think there's reason for optimism that Cam, Colvin, and the freshman guards will get significantly better between now and March. I'm also optimistic that the team defense will continue to improve as players get used to their roles and playing together without Zach.

I don't know if that improvement this year and next combined with the (hopeful) return of a healthy DJ and the emergence of RB is enough to make this team a legitimate NC contender, but unless we lose one or more current players, I'd be very surprised if MP and staff are adding someone via the portal.

What a lot of people don't get is that one of the reasons Matt didn't add anyone via the portal this year is the desire to get that pt to younger players this year to gear up for an NC run next season.

The comparison was March 25 to March 26....so obviously Colvin and Heide, etc. going to improve until March, but that's not the time period we are talking.

Thus, improvement has to come from somewhere to get to FF level. There will have to be both a drastic improvement of both Burgess and DJ to come anywhere near the FF next year. So either they improve or another guy is added for a FF run. I prefer both.....as an insurance policy.

(Yes Harris, Cox or West will add ability- but starters in March will still be the ones in 25-26)

Purdue beats Maine 60-51

Reynolds' stat line isn't exactly "bad". 1 TO is nice in 27 minutes of being the primary ball handler - especially given our TO problems ever since...forever it seems. But it's all relative to WHO we are playing! Maine isn't an attacking defense. They are a half court, grind it out team that makes you execute in the half court. That's where you really need a good PG - and she played 27 minutes in a half court game- and only produced 4 pts and 2 asst - with an overall team that is supremely more talented on paper than its opponent. Yet that team was still down at half and and struggled to score 60 points. THAT is what makes me critical of her play ESPECIALLY knowing that Big 10 play is right around the corner with teams that are really, REALLY good.

I get that KG is trying to be somewhat optimistic - again these girls are HERS - and she is trying to give them some confidence going into the BIG gauntlet - but I'm just not seeing anything so far that is giving me any hope that we'll be able to compete with many of these stacked teams in our conference. We should not have struggled to beat Maine at home. Along with many other games this preseason. Also - I don't see Reynolds being the missing piece. I need to see what Poole brings to the table as I am much more hopeful she will give us more than what Amiyah has showed.

2025 class signings are coming in

Why? They need a whole roster turnover. Only a couple of players seemed to be any good to me. If there were others maybe their effort was lacking. These guys were an embarrassment to Purdue football. Ok I’m done with my rant.
Point taken. Rants are good.

I cant help but wonder if the lackadaisical play by some of the better athletes was due to their perception that the AD didnt care, why should they? Not an excuse but frustration does build.

In my own business life, we (the company) went with an obvious DEI hire who became a liability nightmare. My job was to run liability cover for a company that obviously did not care. The other members on the the team definitely took on the perception that if the company did not care, why should they? It became a cancer. It wasnt until the DEI employee was terminated (I took a lot of heat for an onsite explosion where I ran him off) that the performance/quality with the others picked up.

Is this the same situation? Why bust our asses if the AD wont correct the problem? I wonder if the individual athletic performance would have improved had something come from the top mid season?

(For those about to get triggered, don't. I did not say Walters was DEI, as was the case I dealt with. )

Hell to pay

Yeah that was Canadian oil proposed to be shipped via the Keystone pipeline through the US to the Gulf just to be shipped around the world to be refined elsewhere.
Oil from the Keystone XL Pipeline was destined for domestic refineries in Patoka Illinois, Cushing Oklahoma and Houston in addition to Port Arthur Texas for export. Don't believe everything that you read in the rabid left news media.

Dave Doeren

he had made a verbal agreement with Morgan to replace Hope, and then when he ended his last season at Northern Illinois on a high note, he basically decommitted from his agreed upon contract with Morgan to accept the North Carolina st job. he left Morgan high and dry. and that was why Morgan made the hasty decision to hire Hazell.

he would have been a good hire. would you want to hire somebody who accepted your offer only to turn it down once he got a better offer ?

Welp - that's what you want if you're a competitor. Baldwin was BTDPOY last year and will most certainly cover Smith. I'm guessing Colvin will get a lot of action taking Baldwin. Smith needs to have an efficient game, and Purdue really can't afford loose possessions. Penn State can turn teams over. We shall see.

I agree with alot of what you are saying. Save one item....

Now that Colvin & Heide are providing the 4th scorer.......I don't see any major difference between this team by March this year or next March. Slightly better, sure. But to be just a good team in March 25 which I agree....But then being a great FF team in March 26. ....that's a major difference with pretty much the same core players.

Unless players are added that provide that difference. This includes a possible healthy DJ.....which his continued health maybe can be counted on....maybe not? That I hope, and we will see. But hope another guy is added besides our core+ DJ

OT!! - IU STINKS!!!!

I think also if Harper doesn’t hit that half court shot and Purdue wins…Purdue would have shared…we lost that year by 1 game right?

Maybe, maybe not.....you'd have to assume the whole conference season then would play out the same way, but yes - Purdue finished 3rd @ 14-6 to regular season co-champs Illinois (whom Purdue beat twice) and Wisconsin (who beat Purdue twice) (15-5). Certainly, the game in Madison would have made a difference. That Purdue team was talented (top ten all season and #1 for one week) but IIRC, other than the game @ Michigan, all the conference losses were the result of either getting outplayed in the last few minutes or key Boiler mistakes or both (@ Rutgers, @ Indiana, Wisconsin (2), @ Michigan State). They were almost always trailing in the conference standings.

Jamarcus Shephard a possibility?

OK the list shown below lists several good options but includes our old friend Jamarcus Shephard. He has been co-offensive coordinatory/receivers coach at UW and Alabama. I don't know if he actually called any of the offensive sets though.

Would you consider an offensive coordinator from one of the elite programs (Alabama, Penn State, Georgia, etc.) or would you rather have a successful head coach from a smaller school (Chadwick, Candle, Dickert, Helton, etc.).

As much as Shephard intrigues me, I'm hesitant to go with a coach with no prior head coaching experience.

Nope.

Current head coach bringing whole staff, preferably one who is a QB friendly offensive guy.

What about Chuck?

Look at this from a coach’s perspective. I have to believe the UNC coaching position will pay just as much as Purdue. If you were the coach, which job would you rather have?

I have to believe there are better opportunities for coaches than the Purdue job. And what you will see is a pool of young assistants with no proven record of being able to handle a head coaching job. Or an old guy with a record that is mediocre in a mediocre conference.

Can a guy with a mediocre record at any MAC school produce a winner at Purdue?

You raise the names of the guy at Memphis and Liberty. They haven’t been fired. Would they just leave their current situation to come to Purdue? Or would they rather stay where they are for 1-2 more years to see what other openings pop up?

I have a feeling a lot of people here will be very disappointed in the actual hire and with the other candidates who actually were interviewed. And you will be shouting. Fire BOBO.

A poster said bobo didn’t want to fire Walters but the Purdue President ordered him to do so. Is it possible BOBO might just hire a mediocre candidate out of spite for the president doing BOBO’s job?

The problem with Walters was his assistants just didn’t mesh together. To be successful the next coach is going to have to bring his assistants with him. I’m unsure if that will limit the field of candidates or not.
Why would Bobinski deliberately hire a bad coach? Even if he is close to retirement, it would tarnish his reputation permanently.

In terms of coaches leaving Memphis and Liberty, you give them probably $3-4 million more per year than they're getting at their current universities. That's a lot of incentive. A good coach can probably find 5-6 wins more than Walters got by bringing in a sound system and a few good players to add to what we have.
