Zach Edey for THREE!

Zach Edey finally back in the line-up after missing a dozen games with a left ankle injury.

Memphis trails at the Lakers, halfway through the 4th Q - 103-93.

ZE has 11 and 7 (all offensive boards) in 18 minutes.......5/6 from the field (+6 on the floor). Good to see him back in action. Grizzlies are 18-8 and 2nd in the West.

2 out of position

Well, Myles and Cam are probably as good an athlete as those that defend them. Does that translate into dribbling the ball against them? I don't know since we haven't seen many attempts. If they can, I would like to see them do it more. If they can't...why...what do they need to do so they can? I do NOT know specifically what the players work on, but dribbling the ball and pulling up for a short jumper should be attainable..."IF" that is desired inside the offense Matt wants. I'm not talking about dribbling from the top of the key to the rim. I'm talking about either player taking two or three dribbles and pulling up. If coming off a screen and curling and such they should be able to get the ball and with either one or two dribbles be in the lane, balanced and pull up for a short jumper. Defenders don't want to foul jump shooters and both can elevate enough to essentially not be defended for a soft jumper. Naturally, this would take place on the wing opposite of the low/mid post that Trey was on so his big was pulled over a couple of feet. If not coming off a screen and curling towards the lane, but just needing to attack off the dribble and already with the ball...make sure that first step is NOT wide so the D that is reactionary doesn't have the extra space to catch up. Both have to become deadly, but being able to score at all three levels would make this team much better.

Again, we are not talking about taking it to the rim from behind the arc, but merely getting into the lane...just getting into the lane. The lane is 12 feet wide or 6 feet from the center of the rim. The arc is around 22 feet and so we are talking about 15/16 feet of travel that a player may have a ball of could be looking for a pass? It doesn't take many dribbles if dribbling with a purpose to go that far and so I definitely think it is attainable if the coaches want it and the players practice it. Curling off a screen may only have one dribble to get in the lane. Certainly if effective, teams would start to bring some help to stop them and they would then need to be able to pass the ball to teammate whose defender is helping and THAT may be more difficult. Dribbling for a layup is not as easy if covered.
I hear you. Not an Ivey-like drive all the way to the hoop. Rather a few dribbles and pull up. Or learn from Loyer how to do a floater, they are certainly athletic enough to do that. It would be helpful when TKR is unable to get his normal offense. The opposing coach mentioned TKR’s incredibly high usage rate. That’s fine when it works but sometimes they force it when it has not worked all game. Back to Heide and Colvin you mentioned “if that is desired inside the offense Matt wants”. Maybe he doesn’t…yet.

UK at Purdue

Yeah I'd like to see Collier shoot more 3's, I think she's our best shooter. 0-3 tonight but she looks the most natural of all our options. Draw up more plays to get her open, because she isn't going to shake a defender and step back to hit one.

Agreed though, we need more shooters, Collier was the only one from the portal CKG grabbed. Lombard ended up being a surprise from 3 this year.

What's a bit worrisome is, I believe the plan as of now for the 25' class is the 3 we have now and a portal guard. Idk how good of a shooter dounwstra is, so that portal guard better be a shooter. Maybe K Reynolds develops a shot but I don't think she's known for it right now.

That's why Mckenna should get some more run as well.
I have no problem with McKenna getting more minutes as long as it's minutes at the 2 or 3. She's a decent shooter and has a good floor game. She shot the ball without hesitation and with confidence today. But a lot of her time on the court she ends up guarding the opposing teams 4. She's just not strong enough to stop them or block them off the boards.

I wish Collier would shoot more too. If she's not going to shoot she probably shouldn't be getting as many minutes as she does. She's a below average defender.

I'm really curious to see what Keona Douwstra brings to the team. I've never seen her play....but from the descriptions and her size I'm picturing a Jeanae Terry type who can maybe shoot a little.

According to Mike Carmin Jordyn Poole should start seeing some court time any game now. I'm hoping she can bring some scoring to the team.

The coach didn’t leave. He didn’t have his contract renewed after winning the conference so the players got pissed and left.

Purdue Roster Analysis

This will be a work in progress and updated as people provide corrections, transfer situations change, etc. This is where I see our roster for 2025:

Quarterback
Hudson Card
Bennett Meredith
Garyt Odom (F)

This is the current roster. Hudson Card is NOT expected back. Both Browne and Davila seemed interested in coming back and have not been actively traveling to visit other teams. I suspect they want to see who the new OC is. We may be interested in another transfer QB, could it be backup UNLV QB Cameron Friel who could provide some senior leadership? Some amusement of Rickie Collins from LSU after he decommitted from Purdue. Matthew Sluka was mentioned but I expect that bridge burned. How about darkhorse Kaidon Salter who Purdue offered in 2020 and then went to TN, then Liberty. WKU Caden Veltcamp just seems like he could be a possibility too.

Running Back
Devin Mockobee
Jaheim Merriweather
Jaron Thomas (F)
Ziaire Stevens (F)

Most of us have fingers crossed fist team all-conference Jaiden Thomas will come here after the bowl game from UNLV. Devin Green is another player that was part of UNLV's 2024 class that would be welcome here. Strangely there are currently not a lot of RB's in the transfer portal and non seem to jump out at me. Maybe Terion Stewart from Bowling Green, but USC just offered.

Wide Receiver
Ahrmad Branch
Ryne Shackelford
Jesse Watson
Tra'Mar Harris
Shamar Rigby
Donovan Hamilton
Jayden Dixon-Veal
De'Nylon Morrissette
CJ Smith

I do think this will change a bit. No clue if Dixon-Veal wants to try one more time, but he could. We'd all be happy to see Casey Cain come. There are no 2025 players in this class, could we grab 1 or 2 to try to have a balanced group? UNLV had a couple talented WR in their class last year - Damien McDaniel and Kayden McGee. Justin Bowick from Ball State looks great, but hes visiting PSU. Although I have a feeling we will see at least 1 WR come from UNLV and with 8-9 experienced WR this may not be a huge investment

Tight End
George Burhenn
Joe Grimmett (F)

We are really thin here with only George returning. Maybe we see Christian Moore from UNLV but I do think we will have to search high and low for another TE. How about Tyrus Washington from Arkansas? Although Odom and staff likely didnt rub elbows with him at Arkansas, several of his teammates did leave to join Odom at UNLV, maybe they can put in a good word for him.

OLine
Jimmy Liston
Jordan King
Max Parrott
Jaden Bell
John Randle
Rod Green
Jaekwon Bouldin
Baykyne Coly
Joshua Sales
Joey Tanona
Cameron Gorin (F)

Gorin did not sign as our only commit, but seems probable he does. We need some help here. After all-conference LT Jalen St. John recruits Tyrus Washington, he can follow Odom and staff again here and anchor our LT spot, he was first team all-conference. Jack Hasz from UNLV also had some post-season hardware and after another year of eligibility and fill in at Center. Both would likely start day 1 unless Tanona makes the jump we hope him to, but if we have that problem we will move guys around! Other UNLV potentials are backups RG Mason Vicari, OC Graham Keating, LG Austin Boyd, and LT Ed Haynes. There are 5-6 other MAC-caliber non-signed Indiana OLine from 2025, does Vance Vice and Odom make the circuit to Westfield, Carmel, Zionsville, Cathedral to pick up scraps but start that pipeline? How about Bowling Green OT Alex Wolschlagger or WKU Evan Webberley.

Defensive Line
Mo Omonode
Joe Strickland
Jamarion Harkless
Drake Carlson
Demeco Kennedy
Caleb Irving
Jamarius Dinkins
Trey Smith
CJ Madden
Landon Brooks (F)
Rashad Jones (F)

Sherer and Odom run a 4-2-5 defense mostly with 2 MLBs, similar I suppose to what we had except we have 2 safeties over the top and not 1 super deep. I am assuming edge rushers like Sillah, Madden, and Smith will play more traditional ends. Maybe Jamari Payne will decide to stick around. Antonio Doyle Jr. would be a good addition at DE and really want to see Fisher Camac and his porn-stache here from UNLV at end. Odom had a good 2024 recruit in DE Toby Moore. Seems like there are a lot of good options in the portal out there.

Linebackers
Winston Berglund
Owen Davis
Hudson Miller
Parker Meese (F)
Sam Steward (F)

Wow we are so thin here. Odom/Sherer plays mostly 2 MLB, maybe Yanni will come back. Miller is up there as a walk-on... The LB from UNLV are a bit underwhelming but we will be ever grateful if Marsel McDuffie, Charles Correa, and/or Mani Powell come. Also had 2 really talented freshmen from 2024 class in Melvin Laster and Koi Pa'ao'ao (sp). Would be funny if we can get Dasan McCollough from OK to come play closer to daddy and rub it in Indiana but that is a pipe dream. How about Alex Mitchell from Chattenooga? Hes getting offers from the likes of OK State and Wisconsin.

Secondary
Markevious Brown
Antonio Stevens
Luke Williams
Smiley Bradford
Hudauri Hines
DMon Marable
Ty Hudkins
Earl Kulp
Anthony Brown
Nyland Green
Sterling Smith
ViNazz Cobb (F)
Antonio Parker (F)
Zyntreacs Otey (F)

This seems like the position least of need honestly, lots of talent here and good experience. Sherer is expected to play a 3rd CB. Green, Bradford, and M Brown could all be capable starters. It is strange listing Brown but it seemed intentional he protected another year of eligibility and has not entered the transfer portal. Anthony Brown and Antonio Stevens could complete the secondary (I expect some pushback on this!) and Hudkins will have a lot to say about that. Luke WIlliams is talented. Looking at UNLV Tony Grimes entered the portal kinda early, seems questionable. UNLV had a safety in last years class that was athletic and had a good offer list, Tre Fulton. Maybe some of the guys in the portal decide to stick around after all as we may grow this organically since it was not called out as a priority area by Odom, we are talented here, and I don't see any obvious transfers.

Special Teams
LS Nick Levy
PK Spencer Porath

I was impressed how much Odom mentioned kicking in his presser and now I know why. He had a heck of a PK and punter on his team and some expect his Special Teams coach to follow Odom. This could be an area of strength if first team all-conference Caden Chittenden follows him to handle kicking and his punter Marshall Nichols comes too.

Does CMP go after another .......

There's practically zero chance that Painter gets 2 guys out of the portal, especially a backcourt guy.

He *may* go and get another big. Whether that's an experienced 5 to put next to TKR at the 4 or another 4 to help back him up next to Jacobsen
Jones was great for us last season obviously, but coming in he wasn't some star who would demand anything.

There's going to be a few 4/5 guys who fit that bill. Solid, maybe even surprising but not demanding a big role that could help us.

I agree we are going to be pretty deep at the guard/wing positions so tough to add another one in the portal unless there's an unexpected transfer.

College vs NBA

Saw nba viewership plummeting, this year and consistently over the last 12 years

I imagine college has gone up

What turns off the eyeballs on pro BBall?
Media is more and more fractured. Streaming gets more expensive. More and more deals spread games across a myriad number of platforms.

A few years ago I could watch every NFL game on DirecTV Sunday Ticket.

Now, I need YouTube, plus Amazon, plus the games that are blacked out on YouTube, plus even sometimes other streaming services like Paramount. And that's just for the NFL. I'm sure it's even more fractured for the NBA and we know if you want to watch Purdue basketball you need BTN, networks, Peacock, BTN+, and probably more.

When will something be done to fix the portal?

Marshall is opting out of their bowl game. I heard this week that every QB on their roster went into the portal. I jumped on Army -10.5.

This is the new normal. Just like regular students, student athletes can leave whenever they want to.

That was before revenue sharing. Next year Purdue is expected to pay $13m-$16m for football plus what ever the collective pays. I hope they give everyone $150k flat and then let the collective pay more to some players. It takes all the pressure off Purdue athletics and the coaches and If anyone wants to complain they can go to the collective.
If teams do this, do players get to keep the money if they opt out of a bowl game?

Does CMP go after another .......

If confined to IU I’d rather have Renea’s or Rice or the five from AZ. Mgbako is too hard to spell and seems to need the ball in his hands before he is an offensive player the few times I’ve seen them
Well Ballo is gone after this year (5th year Covid senior). Rice would be an excellent backup to Smith, but almost 99.9% sure rice doesn’t want to be a backup anywhere and same with Reneau. Reneau can score but plays minimal defense and doesn’t rebound particularly well. Mgbako would be good on offense and painter and staff would get him to be better than he is and maybe even get him to understand defense!

If that’s the case … and the National reports I’ve seen suggest that outside of about 20 programs most schools are paying comparable nil ($30-60k average in football) with Purdue at the lower end, but with other B1G programs that didn’t just toss an entire season below and around us…then what are you suggesting?

Maybe (and this is just hypothetical) Purdue provides the kind of conservative education that makes people think about the value of their money and paying 18 year olds to play a game doesn’t strike us as a good value. You’re not going to convince people to give on a free message board, and if you think that shaming them here is a good strategy then I may really know why our nil collective is crap.

TKR wasn’t the problem Saturday. 16 turnovers, 20 fouls and being out rebounded 34-23 was the problem.
TKR had 5 of those turnovers and only 4 rebounds…they took him out of the game (I guess buzz had heard of him before) and doubled him and he wasn’t ready to play at noon on a Saturday. So I’d say he was part of the problem (unfortunately). And he’s one of my fave players.

TBH the energy in the building was super low. Crowd was super quiet. The building was quiet. Wasn’t anywhere near the same as last year vs Arizona.

I am assuming it was due to tv scheduling. But still can’t understand why Purdue and TAMU were the first game of the classic and at noon. It wasn’t full and when then second game started, no one was there.

Still, it was a good game to test the team and get better for March. Much rather would play these than playing Chattanooga or Miami Ohio in the non conf.

When will something be done to fix the portal?

People always love the portal when they add somebody. Purdue basketball fans loved the addition of lance jones.

Fans always hate when players leave.

Eventually minor leagues will be formed as more and more athletes will just want to play sports rather than attend classes. And soon there after colleges will just schedule traveling athletic teams as if they are performing artists.

Look at this board. Fans don’t really want to see student athletes perform. What they want to see is a football team wearing our colors play and winning on Saturday. You could care less about their majors or their gpa as long as they can score and we win the game. They are no longer students in your mind. They are athletes. Are they worth $5 million each. So you can be entertained? I’ve already found cheaper entertainment to occupy my Saturdays. I’m still a fan, but I don’t feel a student needs to be paid money to play for their school.

You might say I wear my Purdue shirt because I’m proud I graduated from Purdue. Rather than to say I’m some Purdue football groupie that needs to yell , scream and get drunk on Saturdays. Concerts are a lot cheaper and more entertaining. Wierd Al, and trans Siberian orchestra are traveling. Ticket prices are $50 - 250.

Ask yourself what football game you’re looking forward to seeing next year. To me the SIU game is the same price and we might win. To me, winning is what matters and makes people happy. Nobody here was happy when we almost won those 3 games. You were just as unhappy after the overtime losses as you were after being blown out.

Just read your comments . After every loss you told me to stfu. It didn’t matter what the score was.
WTF you hate Purdue
