Purdue at Washington

Final 87-58 Washington.

17 points for Lombard, 15 points for Collier, 8 for Layden, 7 for Puryear and Poole.

Poole needs to start and play as much as she can handle. You could see her getting better the longer she was in.

Layden led the team with 7 rebounds, Puryear was 2nd with 3.

Swanson held out for illness.

McCarthy only played a little for whatever reason.
Reynolds looks terrible, I mean, she’s a redshirt Frosh, maybe she’ll get better, not sure how much though. Play the youngsters, likely a 2-4 win Big Ten team.

3rd SOS too.

Furst has transformed the defense. He can switch out on any player and stay with them. Gives more rebounding and size down low as well. Cox is a good defender too. Everyone is playing much better defensively and I love the all switching defense which is a FIRST under painter and something I have wanted for a long time.

As ma y are aware from past tirades I LOATH the drop coverage with ball defender trailing ball handler on PnRs. I absolutely despise it. As a former player I wanted defenses to play me exactly like that so I have never understood doing it.

So glad we changed

Smitty had four more steals today.....lately he's getting them primarily with the back-side double near the block/baseline and reading the skip/cross-court and intercepting.

Boilers were also really good on the glass today - offensive boards really helped keep them in touch in the first half with the frigid shooting.
Outrebounded em!

Smith has been great defensively. And the whole team since the lineup change:

Points given up:

Minny: 61
Northwestern: 61
Rutgers: 50
Nebraska: 68 (but we scored 104)
Washington: 58
Oregon: 58

Purdue at Oregon: MASTER DISCUSSION THREAD

Cam Heide was definitely more confident/engaged today - chipped in big with 9 points and 4 boards. Myles Colvin looked a little frustrated at times, but he had some good moments on defense......got taken out with some nickel/dimers to me, and the and-one with Bittle was ridiculous as DJ was out of position (yeah - I sound like Shooter I know.... :) )

Harris was definitely pumped up and confident to be out there in crunch time and he delivered in his role big time. He can also embrace the physicality unlike most freshman. Very good gut-check back alley brawl win for the Boilers.

My exact thoughts on the brawl.

This high school recruiting you speak of, I remember such a thing from my youth. I thought it was mythical as everyone goes to the Portal to get buy their players. It would be refreshing to see the new coach bring on those quality under the radar players and develop them into a winning culture at Purdue (similar to what CMP has done for basketball).
Except no one has the patience for the 3-4 years minimum that would take.

They are very connected defensively. Even when they are scrambling in rotations the guys know where they are supposed to be and hustle their butt's off to get their. Great coaching and effort/focus by the guys.

Braden is turning into quite the free safety. His court vision is paying off on both ends.

Furst helps and moves so well on D. Inthe right place 99% of the time.

Having Harris, Cox, Colvin gives this team some perimeter depth on D they haven't had in awhile.

Colvin and Heide yikes

Really starting to get concerned about Colvin. He struggled again today. I hope he gets it turned around soon.
Do you expect him to score 10+? Him
And heides roles are to score a bit but mostly rebound and play defense. Myles was great today on shelstead and rebounded well. Heide was good on offense…they both played their roles very well.

If we get a combined 8-12 points, 6-10 rebounds and 1-3 steals from these 2 a night, then that puts us in a great position to win. And if they do more, well I really like our chances.

Myles was a 🔒 ⬇️ defender on shelstead today. He played his role beautifully. Just like Harris and cox. You worried about cox? Prob not. His role is to help Braden handle it a bit and guard their best guard. And if he heats up then it’s a plus and we are absolutely tough to beat.

Furst did a great job when switched on shelstead today. And even burgess has a good defensive play when switched on shelstead and after shelstead shot a terrible shot (one of many) Myles almost got the rebound from their 7 footer, bittle

Any idea who Coach Painter is talking about?

I think Morton relegated himself to the bench. If it wasn’t Jones it should have been someone else.
LMAO. Dude we've had interactions going back years on here. And nothing I posted remotely suggested Jones was the first transfer he has taken considering in the very same posts I literally said he'd done it two years in a row and literally named Jenkins.

Do you read every other word or what?

Listen man, I'm gonna let you have the last word and then I'm going to look at interaction with you as unnecessary and probably uninteresting to the rest of the board and stop responding to you. Feel free to do the same, or not, doesn't really matter.
And this seems to be your problem. You make a statement and attribute it to so.eone else. Someone else makes a statement, and you claim it was you. You didn't mention Jenkins. I did. This is why you appear to be arguing with yourself, and don't even know it. When you tell other people to re-read posts, you should follow that very advice.

Only an ABSOLUTE Bad-Azz Team

Like I said elsewhere....ref working OT to keep the Ducks a float. It was like they had a vested interest in the game. Just let alot of Duck fouls go uncalled, and turned around and called ghost fouls on Purdue. Hard to watch.

But it's a Road win.....love it
That hit on Furst should have been a foul and the foul inflicted on Colvin should have been a flagrant.

Braun Eliminates DEI

I want DEI gone for this reason...I want folks hired because they're the best qualified, regardless of gender or pigmentation. DEI hinders that and tells folks of color they're not smart enough nor good enough to do it on their own which I think is absolute bovine defecation. It provides folks a broken crutch for them to stand on.
In a perfect world perhaps that can work. But in reality that hasn’t happen as there have been many blacks and other groups that have been passed over for jobs. Now that DEI is being demolished that practice will continue. Y’all need to stop assuming that blacks aren’t qualified. Is Marcus Freeman qualified now? When Notre Dame lost to Northern Illinois he wasn’t?

If racist white folks would have never been racist in the first place and hire based on merit, there would be no need for affirmative action or now DEI.

Braun Eliminates DEI

If she wasn't a DEI hire, then who was? Biden said he would nominate a black woman to the SC (link). Biden ended up with a list of NINE! (9!) black women as finalists (second link). You can see all nine black female faces for yourself. Justice Brown was a total, classic, unabashed DEI hire.

So he said that he wanted a black female for justice. The black wonen on the list were not former Walmart cashiers. Justice Brown’s credentials were as good or better than the other 8 justices. Better than Justice Thomas for sure. Just because you may not like someone didn’t mean that they are not qualified. I don’t like Sen. Tim Scott or Ted Cruz but they are more than qualified to be senator. But it’s getting tiresome to label everything DEI now.

Thanks for the recap - I was unable to watch or follow today. Was hoping for a closer score than this. Geez, I feel badly for the players who are trying & giving effort (Layden, Jones, etc). Sounds like they are not being put in situations to succeed.
Skills development should be better this deep into the season. Something is just very out of whack. Baffling, disappointing, and the players have got to be discouraged. This is tough on everyone
